Just wanted to open a thread to get peoples ideas about any coaches they have in mind that could take charge of this team, any new players that come to mind that show potential to now be brought into the squad, and any new systems/style of playing that we should implement from now on, etc. Feel free to drop any comments...

    Great Post,
In my opinion any futbol knowing person in Ecuador would agree that Bauza is the ideal candidate, not just his accomplishments (which are equaled by none) but his style, it's effective, eye pleasing, smart and he has a winning formula, he knows what Quito gives us, all the Libertadores experiences give him a great knowledge of the home/away system, but most importantly..he has a winning mentality, sure he didnt win all the time and he took some crap at the end of his time in Liga, but the NT would be a challenge that could interest him.

Now, Me personally would not be upset with Aguinaga at all, even Fossatti or Inzua, but I do not know how much everyone would agree, but a change sright now seems unavoidable, unfortunately the word in Ecuador going around is that Rueda will be reassigned.

As i've said before and made it known- Bauza would be my ideal candidate to take charge of this NT.

The few reasons are the following:

    1. He knows ecuadorian futbol and has coach in Ecuador successfully for 5 years (or just about)
    2. He brought unknown players (ecuadorian and non-ecuadorian) into the light: Damian Manso, Norbert Araujo, Claudio Bieler, Enrique Vera, Joffre Guerron, Chucho Bolanos, Jairo Campos, etc. Most of these players considered "unknown" or not top level players before Bauza won the campeonato in 2007 and later winning the Libertadores in 2008. Bieler was a player from the Primera B and wasn't a stand out, Vera was from Aucas, Joffre was unknown, Chucho Bolanos had came back from Macara on loan, Norberto Araujo had a good run in Sporting Cristal before he came to Liga but he wasn't the stand out player he later became. This to me shows that Bauza can use every single players strengths and make them standout. He someone managed to make a bunch of players who had no considerable (or any at all) international recognition become the strongest team in South America and one of the toughest in the world, not just for 1 year, but for 4 strong years establishing a base that led to long term success.
    3. He doesn't only defend and he doesn't only attack. Bauza is a coach that maintains a very great balance in all his teams. When he goes out to play in other fields, he doesn't hesitate to go out and win, but he also doesn't forget that he can't leave his defense naked and get scored on.
    4. His attitude and leadership- he changes even a mediocre players mentality and makes them believe in themselves and know that they're capable of winning cups too. Bauza never plays to participate in a cup, or to just tie a game. He plays to win it all and meets his goals successfully. The fact that he made a team of "noobs" win a Libertadores shows that his voice on and off the field has a very positive impact on his players. He changed the ecuadorian mentality.
    5. He is very versatile with his system of playing. He'll play a line of 3 and he does not hesitate to change to a line of 4 or even 5. To me that shows that he's not predictable (something that Reinaldo always has been) and most of all tells me that he can always switch our formation/style of playing depending on the game and on the rival. This also tells me that certain players' best qualities will be taken advantage of and brought to the light in his different systems. As we all know, Bauza is someone who knows who to put where and make it work.
    6. He builds for long-term success, not just 4 years of success but a long-term project.
    7. He knows exactly who is on the come up as far as the youth goes. He made Cevallos Jr, Kevin Mercado, and Gabriel Corozo debut. He had Luis Canga playing in the reserves and had him set and ready for this season so Zubeldia could just promote him to the main squad. 3 of these players (cevallos, mercado, and corozo) have played or are going to be playing in European grounds. This tells me he has an eye for talent and knows what's in store for a very near future....meaning this Qualifier. He also knows about other juveniles that play in the other teams of our campeonato. In other words, he's up to date on what's to come.
    8. Campeonato 2007, Lib. 2008, Recopa 2010, Campeonato 2010, Vicecampeon Mundial de Clubes 2008, Vicecampeon Copa Sudamericana 2011....do I need to say more?

Now for everyone is has been anxious to see the younger guys (or not so young) get a chance, spill your hearts out b/c within this next year is when they'll probably all get a chance (of course assuming Rueda doesn't continue lol). But these are the players I consider worth of an opportunity either now b/c they're performing well or in a near future b/c I see potential in them. And here's the following:

    Keepers:
I would keep Dominguez, Banguera, and Bone. The only one I'd probably try out is Cristian Arana (Emelec) but at the moment I don't see an interesting keeper on the come up. Plus, we're secured in this area which is the least of my worries.

    Defenders:
    John Narvaez
    Luis Canga
    Robert Arboleda
    Fernando Leon
    Andres Mendoza
    Cristian Ramirez
    Mario Pineida
    Gabriel Corozo
Yeison Dominguez (left back from BSC, im pretty sure that's his name)

    Midfield:
Juan Cazares (currently w/o a team although River still holds his pass)
    Miller Bolanos
    Jonathan Gonzalez
    Carlos Gruezo
Jose Cevallos Jr. (the only player not playing in a "first team" that i'll include on my list)
    Fernando Gaibor
    Marcos Caicedo
    Johnny Uchuari
    Elvis Patta

    Forwards:
    Cristian Penilla
    Kevin Mercado
    Junior Sornoza
    Marlon De Jesus
    Juan Luis Anangono

There's a few other players in the campeonato I'd keep on stand by: Robert Burbano, Ely Esterilla, Jefferson Intriago...i'll see if I can think of a few others I'm most likely forgetting since it's been a while since the campeonato has been in action.

And we'd also have to keep our eyes out to see how David Velez (Velez Sarsfield), Miguel Parrales (Villarreal), Josimar Quintero (Chelsea), and a few other guys playing out there end up doing and if they break into the first team which of course David Velez has already done.

i would love any of the mentioned names but rumor does have it that they want rueda to renew i wish at least rumors will come out about us looking for new coaches just to see what kind of coaches would be on the list i hope that when ecuador returns from brazil we start some friendlies and give some chances to players out there for goal keepers i think we should look at padilla i think his name was 2nd choice goal keeper for independiente and darwin cuero if any of these two start to appear and getting some playing time in there teams some of the first players i want to see are the guys who missed out in that line up i did i want to start as early as possible we just got eliminated from a world cup time to pick up the pieces and rebuild asap and EXPERIMENT

I'm liking valencia as center mid, it's painfully obvious he's lost a step and he's become so aggressive lately. Time to move back to the position he became pro playing.

Personally, I hope Ibarra gets more playing time now in the NT. IMO he really took a step forward in the WC even in the short amount of time he had. Made more impact than A. Valencia did in a short period of time. (A. Valencia isn't the same since his major injury and might never recover. Will still be an asset for the NT but Ibarra will pass him soon as the better RW).

Another player that I think stood out was Erazo. Glad that we have a CB that we can rely on. He seems to be growing into a leader role this WC (he even called out Valencia). We need a leader in the defense since Ayovi won't be on the NT in the next World Cup. This will allow us to look for a younger CB that can play next to Erazo (if we still keep 4 defenders). Also exited for Paredes. Shows up every single time! Doesn't have the best games always but shows up still. He NEEDS to move to a better league soon. Somewhere where they can fine tune his defensive and passing skills. He will be a monster RB. He is already is amazing IMO.

We need to find a partner for Enner. IMO I think it will FINALLY be done and it won't be Caicedo. There are many young up and coming kids that can fit this role. I think Caicedo is done for the NT. Feel bad for him but too many talented kids coming up that will surpass him.

If we hire the right coach (Bauza 1st or Aguinaga 2nd) I believe we have a HUGE change to FINALLY make a huge leap forward in the coming years. I also will predict (if Ecuador wakes the f u c k up and removes Chiriboga, his son, and Rueda) that Ecuador will win a major cup! I am serious. We have enough talent coming up that I predict we will finally make that dream possible. To win a major tournament. We just need that spark to get it going. It's a crucial time for Ecuador right now IMO. Hope Ecuador and it's leaders see that we need change.

I like all three line ups. It's similar to what I think Ecuador should play. Of course leaving Enner out means your experimenting. But I like it. The first one most of all is exactly what I would consider ideal. Fidel and Ibarra playing behind Penilla creating chances for him, maybe not so wide out. The only slight disagreement I'd have is that to me Corozo is better as a left/right or a carrilero for one simple reason: his height. I think we have plenty of tall upcoming center backs to fill in that gap so in my ideal team I'd have Corozo as the carrilero, or Ramirez as you put on here. I think Ramirez as carrilero could work more than as a left back b/c es bien tirando al ataque.

I think Ecuador needs a coach like Bauza that can implement the line of 3 and can change it to 4 or 5 whenever he feels the need. That's one thing Bauza is good at. Have any of you noticed that in the past 6 years the line of 3 has been used in a good 60-70% of the teams in the campeonato? That tells me that our style has changed. And not only do we stick to the line of 3, but maybe coaches switch week in and week out from 3 to 4 to 5 and most teams adapt to the change quickly. Zubeldia does it with Liga all the time. Bauza did it all the time. In D.Quito it happens, same with BSC. Nacional does it too. Maybe the only team that doesn't do this anymore is Emelec. But before Quinteros, I remember Sampaoli, Turco Assad, Fleitas - they'd all switch from one system to another. That tells me, our players can make the switch on the NT too. If anything the 4-4-2 is something that is rarely played in any club team in ecuador, yet our NT STILL plays it. It's unbelievable how the ecuadorian press sometimes even fails to mention that. That's a very big point to make when they say "our system is outdated". Even Independiente plays a 4-2-3-1. Liga plays it too.

anyways, my ideal line up would be:
    3-4-2-1
Dominguez; Narvaez, Canga (Leon), Erazo; Paredes, Valencia, Gruezo, Corozo (Ramirez); Ibarra, Penilla (Arroyo); Enner

    or

    3-4-1-2

Dominguez; Narvaez, Canga (Leon), Erazo; Paredes, Valencia, Gruezo, Corozo (Ramirez); Arroyo (Miller/Sornoza/Cazares); Marlon (Penilla), Enner

    Enner Valencia 25
    Fidel Martinez 24
    Jaime Ayovi 26
    Felipe Caicedo 25
    Marlon de Jesus 22
    Edison Mendez 35

As we can see Rueda left some type of base, I mean theres a couple of positions that will need to be filled but we have a lot of our attack going in on their prime towards next WCQ.

there's also some other players that I expect will be playing very soon,

    Jonathan Gonzales 19
    Christian Penilla 22
    Johny Uchuary 20
    Junior Sornoza 20
    Miller Bolanos 24
    Fernando Guerrero 24

players to keep an eye on

    Miguel Parralez 18
    Marcos Caicedos 22
    JF Cevallos jr 19
    Joel Valencia 19
    Danny Cabezas 21
    Jayro Velez 19
    Josimar Qunitero 17
    Abel Casquete 17
    Juan Cazarez 22
Hamilton Piedra 21 still in D Cuenca
Anderson Ordonez 20 still in BSC
Jeison Dominguez 19 still in bsc (I really like this kid)
Luis Canga 19 still in LDU?
    Romario Caicedo 24 Olmedo
Ely Esterilla 21 still in bsc

as you can see the last part are very young players, that need to prove themselves in their clubs first, they have A LOT of potential but thats all they are right now potential, however if the futbol growth is consistent they need to be molded into the NT at the end of this new cycle.
Vizuetes U-20 team will give us a huge status update of our young players, I know we allwill not agree with most names and I'm sure I left a few out, but this gives us an ideaof our player's age

If Rueda does stay which right now it seems VERY LIKELY, I mean Chiriboga is balls deep infatuated with him, so the remaining factor will be Rueda's decision but why would he refuse? he got away with murder, he's aware the teams base is solid, 2 Copa Americas to mold the team, no reason not to be positive, so I expect him to play this team for the first half of 2015 going into Copa America
    ------------------------------Dominguez--------------------------
    Paredez------------Campos--------------Erazo------------Ramirez
    Ibarra--------------Valencia--------------Gaibor----------Montero
    ------------------Arroyo---------------------Enner------------------

Reason I'm including Gaibor is, I believe that if it had not been for his injury, he would have started over Gruezo or Minda, I know he's a little more offensive than those two, but he defends very well and recovers a lot, hes hardly our of position, my only complaint from him is that he gets tired quickly he gives us solid 60 minutes but considering how young he is, but right now hes looking as a better version of Noboa than Noboa himself

It's been a couple of days since the France match so I believe now is as good a time as any to share some of my thoughts.

Its unfortunate but our futbol is saddled with mediocrity from top to bottom. With proper management at the top, this team could have gone much farther. Some say our future looks bright, that's just hopeless optimism on their part. Its true we have talented players. It'd be foolish to say otherwise. Our nation has the potential to produce world class talent. That being said, we will be held back from exploring our full potential as long as Chiriboga and his cronies remain in charge. Unfortunately our player development infrastructure is severely antiquated. We need a complete overhaul in management. Not just in terms of personnel and how we do things...we need to change how we view the game. More than anything we need an overhaul in our philosophy.

The best NT’s don’t necessarily have the best collection of talent. The best NT’s are the ones that have a collective personality that embodies a whole nation. They’re the manifestation of the hopes and dreams of an entire country. A team where fans can point to and say: “Yes, that’s who we are. That’s our team…our identity.” That's something we don't have at the moment.

Qualifying to Russia 2018 is going to be difficult. Not impossible but it's not gonna be easy. Brazil and Argentina will always be locks to qualify. Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay also figure to remain competitive going forward. A close eye will also have to be kept on Venezuela. I think with the proper coach, we can put ourselves in a position to be successful. That's just it though...judging by Chiriboga's recent comments, Rueda might stay.

In terms of rebuilding the team, a complete overhaul of players is not necessary. Gone will be Walter, Guagua, Castillo, and Mendez. This WC in all likelihood was the end of the road for them. Health permitting, Dominguez, Erazo, Paredes, Gruezo, Enner, Ibarra, Montero, and Tono will be the building blocks as we move forward. I hope they take this disappointing experience and learn from it. You have two choices in life when presented with adversity, either sulk and drown in your own self pity, or you fight back and learn from the experience while in the process becoming a better man because of it. Sometimes you learn more from failure than you do from success.

I'm not gonna lie, this disappointing showing hurt...but life goes on. As Andres Escobar once wrote: "Hasta pronto porque la vida no termina aquí."

of course all experimenting i chooses some of the younger players we had in the list of 30for the world cup and threw in players who recently had national team exposure meaning these are the line ups i would like to see in the next up coming friendly where we could afford to throw out a line up like this our team is in ecuador now i hope a friendly comes soon vs our sub 20 or all stars from the Ecuadorian league some thing to have the next process in momentum of course i would love to see canga, leon, cazares ect but i think we should start with the young players who recieved call ups and caps first and start them with the transition of new players and building our new a and b team we should have theses players called up for the next friendly since defenders are most needed for us ill trow in the names i mentioned

i only put corozo in CB on my line up there because out of all the young promising defenders he is the only one who received a call up and can play CB and the line ups i put out are for intimidate friendlies and giving opportunities to younger players. the squad i put up has the youngest players (in there positions) from the list of 30 for world cup Valencia being the youngest who can play CM erazo, paredes youngest df ect these player included will be good for the young guys and the rest all being u-23 have all received call up and caps with exception of f. leon and canga but i think we need them so ill include them a very good mixed and serious way to start a new team i should say these where all at one point ruedas squad, pieces and players he had in mind which is why they should be the first players our new coach should take, mold together and build on

Ecuador will have a friendly with Brasil in Sept.. I got a pre sale email last week. I didn't not buy them because if Rudea is still the coach I cannot support this team. Although if Brasil wins the world cup I could make some money on stub hub.

that all nice and dandy but i would like a small friendly before el campionato starts since we have most of the team together but i want small fixtures to start a solid b team a game vs brasil especially with rueda will have the same world cup squad, line up, and formation if we didn't have chiriboa we would organize a number of small fixtures properly i see this as a better time than any to do so if we had more smaller fixtures a long with big ones of course we would have a solid b and a squad small fixtuers like i mentioned to bring young players / b squad then a big game like vs brasil with a solid b team we would have an even better a team

The coaching situation is the biggest question now. I am very happy for Colombia but at the same time it's painful to see how they invested in a top class coach and we went for the cheap option - look at the difference it makes.

Think Sampaoli will stay on with Chile? Would be an amazing option since he's already familiar with the Ecua league.

I think you guys know what you need. It's Edgardo Bauza. Next year qualifying is going to be a bitch with Peru bringing Pinto in.

Another excellent option is Tata Martinez.

same thing crossed my mind i think if he left chile fef would look at him as a strong candidate considering the world cup experience he just received and of course coaching emelec all though i would much rather have bauza i would be happy to have him to the chances of fef going for bauza look dimer and dimer but hopefully some day he becomes our national team coach and hopefully we start to hear some solid new of rueda leaving and us looking for a new coach soon with the potential our team has i think we would be fine with any of the coaches mentioned here and pinto going to peru? good that is one guy off fef list lol

Just so you guys know, Sampaoli extended his contract to AFTER Russia 2018 as soon as he qualified Chile, given the results, I am sure he'll want to stay considering he is the second best pais NT coach in South America and Chile will be more than happy to keep him. forget about him.

Last I heard, Peru is going to continue the Markarian project with Bengoechea considering he got signed 2 months ago, why would they sign a coach and fire him 3 months later without even playing an official game, besides, Pinto will probably stay, he's said it many times he loves Costa Rica, besides won't they get like 15 million for qualifying to quarter finals? they will be able to pay him whatever he wants.

IMO, Peru is going to be worse than last time. The reason I say that is because 4 of their very important players like Farfan, Vargas, Pizzaro, and Guerrero won't be able to make it to the next WC. Or at least it's very probable they won't. In 4 years this will be their age: Farfan (33), Vargas (34), Pizzaro (39 and retired), and Guerrero (34). These are basically Peru's base or have been Peru's base for a while. They are leaders that have gone through several processes that all failed, but nonetheless they have been important to the peruvian NT. Besides these guys peru doesn't have many more players to lead this team for the next 4 years. Their last good chance to qualify was this time and IMO they'll most likely be the poorest team in the Qualifier for 2018.

Another team that I forecast to drop significantly is Uruguay. If you take a look at their players ages, a good handful of their starters (at least half or a little more) will have to be replaced almost all at once either before or in the middle of the Qualifier. That's not an ideal situation. On top of that there's a good 14-16 players in their roster subs and starters included that just won't be able to make it to the next cup- age being the main factor. Uruguay IMO has peaked and rumor has it that Tabarez plans on retiring from futbol really soon. So that's an end of an era for them. I do recall Uruguay having a U-17 or U-20 team about 1-2 years ago (correct me if im wrong) playing in the final of the WC against Mexico. Or at least I remember both of their upcoming squads being competitive. The problem with that is that although they have good players on the come up, they won't be listos para dar el "gran salto" in this Qualifier. For the Qualifier after Russia, Uruguay will most likely have a great team once again. But for this one, they are going to run into a bunch of trouble b/c they'll have to do a renovation all at once. Good thing we don't have to go through a drastic clean up like they will most likely encounter. Our clean up will consist of immediately just switching 3 players out- Center back in Guagua's position, left back in Walter's position, and a striker up front to play w/ Enner. Gruezo will take Castillo's spot so we don't have to go looking anywhere else. Noboa can probably hold his spot for a little while longer so there's no need for an immediate change there.

One team I think will be more complicated to beat than previous times will be Bolivia. If anyone has been watching Bolivar and The Strongest play in the Libertadores, they have a good base of players from both squads to create a more competitive NT than we've seen in the past decade or so. And the guy behind Bolivar in the Libertadores is none other than Javier Azcargorta, no surprise there lol. So one thing to keep in mind is that if they actually end up consolidating a decently competitive NT with those club teams as their base, they'll definitely be trouble in La Paz. And we already know how many teams that play in La Paz suffer alone w/ the altitude, but when you mix a good team w/ the altitude like we do, it becomes something to fear. So Bolivia IMO won't be a piece of cake at all. They'll be tougher to beat than any previous versions we've seen. Does anyone know if Javier Azcargorta will continue to coach Bolivar or if he'll continue the process with the bolivian NT? It's a good thing to know.

Paraguay and Venezuela are two teams that I'm not to aware of. I'm not sure who is Paraguay's coach at the moment or if they even have one. I know Venezuela doesn't have one at the moment and they have a few candidates like Dunga and Maradona in the line up. But Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile will continue to be a problem. I don't think much will change there. Maybe our most direct competitor will be Chile.

I'm sure Paraguay will be tougher since they played almost the whole eliminatorias this time with renovation in mind, I think those same guys will be much tougher now.
