22M per year for the next 10 years?!?!? WTF is wrong with Watzke? Manchester United will be making over 55M per season without CL football next year. Their brand's taken a hit, their revenues are down. At 22M we should be signing for no more than 2 years. Hell there are strategies we could have adopted to circumvent lowball offers. Look at Juve.

Let's not forget that our deal with Puma is embarrassing.

I think that was a bad deal, especially for 10yrs?

Till 2024? The BL would be getting airtime on Fox and more exposure to the American market, Dortmund is the next best option after Bayern for fans and corporate sponsors, BvB should continue to build on their European pedigree and to establish themselves as one of the dominant teams in Europe

All that for 22m a yr?

I think the Evonik deal isn't too bad, if it is just shirt sponsorship then it is certainly an improvement on what we had. The ten year contract is a little long, not sure why they did that.

And I'm sure this doesn't rule out that they are still trying to attract a major investor (like the DB scenario a few weeks ago), that is where the big money is, not in shirt sponsorship.

I don't understand why anyone would compare this deal to Man Utd's? They are the biggest football brand in the world, despite missing out on the CL.

They are our no. 1 commercial partner, aren't they? We wouldn't strike a deal with them separately for shirt advertising alone. That makes no sense. I am comparing this to United because they are on a downward trajectory while we are heading the other way. United doubled their revenue from that stream right when SAF retired. We barely grew when signed Jurgen Klopp until 2018.

There's a few thing to this deal you guys are getting wrong.

    1. I heard the deal is for 18 million euros a season not 22. Either way this is still more than the 12 we were getting before. Even Gazprom was giving Schalke more with 16. Now only Bayern and Wolfsburg with their blank check from Volkswagon gets more. Also the Evonik and Signal Iduna contracts were extended just a couple years ago when they ran to 2018 so I think these two would be willing to renegotiate again if needed. Now that Evonik owns 9% of BVB, they are far more invested in the club than just a plain old shirt sponsor.

Also as I said before, Watzke had said he saw the club being valued at 600 mil not 250 like Deutschbank was valuing. But for the price we sold the shares to Evonik, then it is indeed 260 million which makes me think the deal also had a lot to do with Evonik increasing the annual shirt sponsorship by 50%. At the present this is a great deal but not sure in the long run how good it is when shirt contracts with other clubs get inflated. This was Arsenal's problem for years by signing with Emirates and Nike for a long deals in order to help finance their stadium faster. So like i said, a lot depends on if Evonik will be later willing to increase the money but as a local Ruhr company who has apparently greatly benefited from BVB advertising (see the official website links), I think they are more invested than Emirates or Nike (who have already been replaced by Puma) for Arsenal. Emirates has increased the deal with Arsenal recently but Nike really ran them dry.

Before getting too excited though, Watzke has said this money won't be spent on extra transfers right away, but the website article has said it will " be used to promote growth and achieve an annual turnover of 300 million euros in the medium term without transfer income. We can then go and increase our player budget on the basis of that growth". Sounds good but from other stuff I saw on twitter, from Stefan Buczko, Watzke said "There's more money now to continue what we are doing. We will honour some debts/invest in structural things." Also Bild said that most of the money will go into paying off the stadium debt. So sounds like nothing of the 26 mil or the extra Evonik cash will go into transfer or player wages until the stadium is payed off early. Not like we can't buy Kagawa with some that money...

However one thing that excited me the most was, "In addition to the extension of the contract and the strategic partnership with Evonik, Watzke announced another capital increase which will take place between 1 July and 30 September. “We are having exploratory talks with interested companies,“ said BVB’s chairman of the board."
Bild are saying while Evonik bought 6 mil shares at 4.37 another partner/s is looking to buy 30 mil shares which would be a 130 mil euro sum! Huge money. Hopefully that will go into a transfer warchest for next summer or this winter if we are having striker problems.

cheers, very helpful. And yep, the point is that the deal is an improvement on the last one. We're heading in the right direction I think.

    Also some other general news:

Our U17 team won the German u17 championship. That's a good sign for the youth coming thru.

Auba's dad says he is staying. Says BVB went thru a lot of trouble to make sure he got integrated in Germany.

Reus is out of his cast now.

    Kuba's second daughter was born.

I thought about this and rly 10 years is very much time and 18 mln per year is not so good as i thought for that long time.I dont understand wy they sold 9 % for 25 mln only the incomes every year are 300 mln wy the club cost 260 mln i cant udesrstand that. That was a very very bad deal for borussia .Bayern take now 40 mln every year for t-shirts and will get better every year ,now we will take 18 mln until 2016.........

Yup Hoeneß is laughing from his cell. I wonder if this opportunity was even floated in the open market. I bet Emirates would have been interested after our Turkish Airlines deal expired.

    - 18 million a year is a very bad deal...especially if Dortmund keep growing and performing well in Europe, in 3-4 years they could very well be making less than they should from that type of deal. There has to be a buyout or renegotiation clause somewhere. If the highest Evonik was willing to go was 18/22 then Dortmund should be actively perusing a new sponsor.

    - The Puma deal is bad and already undervalued its why Dortmund got "flashed mob" after the Champions League Final because they Puma know that they are stealing from Dortmund.

    - Not to mention Dortmund do need to renovate the Stadium to add more sweets and luxury boxes

I hope there is renegotiation clause somewhere.Borussia directors must think for our club like one of the biggest today and demand more money from sponsors

Please guys let's wait until all the details come out. We are taking a huge step up on yearly payments and getting a company to commit long term.

As for the valuation we cannot expect people to pay a valuation of 600mln when we are currently valued at approx 267mlm.

Is this deal a record breaker, no it is not. That said what company would pay more to invest in BVB versus Man U or Arsenal. They have far longer track records. We are moving up but it will take time IMHO.

But if that is the case then there is mo reason to sign a 10 year deal. In 3 or 4 seasons with consistent results Dortmund will be worth over 300 million and a 18/22 million dollar deal will not account for that

pretty much this. He did well in a defensive Italian league. By no means is a proper Lewandowski replacement or anywhere near Lewa's level.

Time will tell. Are we getting Ramos? I've been absent from the soccer world since we lost the Pokal to Munich.. up until the world cup.

Welcome to the forum, noticed you joined today, so I bet I'll be the first to welcome you.

Since we lost, Ramos has been confirmed for roughly 10-11 million euros if I remember correctly. Funny that you brought it up, since transfer season opens tomorrow, I believe the move is confirmed tomorrow. Still I believe management F*cked up on this deal as we bought a 29 year-old striker with how much Bundesliga experience exactly? And on his last year on his contract. Hertha must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Other than that Immobile for 17 million I think was the figure.

We had somewhat of an agreement with Frieburg for Ginter, but then Freiburg backed out because they felt it wasn't good for Ginter's development (aka b*llsh*t). I think we offered 10 and they wanted 11 or 13 million.

Shit people always amaze me with thinking like that. How the **** do you know he is shite? I know he is no Lewandowski but if he could score goals I don't give a damn.

Adrian Ramos was signed before Immobile. If Immobile can score goals like Barrios did for us or even more, I would be totally happy with him. Guy who was Serie A top scorer can't be bad.

Benteke has been injury prone. Actually his most recent injury has put serious doubts over his ability to perform in the same level; are you not satisfied with Gundogan's situation? Lukaku doesn't contribute defensively but more importantly Chelsea don't want to sell. Divock Origi is only 19. You'd take a youngster who has impressed in a month over someone who led Serie A to replace Lewandowski!?!?
