The russian defender pulled the algerian player from his shorts right in front of the referee and no penalty
What we've been waiting to see all tournament finally happens in the 30th minute. Header by Algeria deflected over by the keeper, BUT there was an Algerian standing about two yards directly in front of the keeper, in an offside position. I can't say for sure because the camera didn't show it, but it seemed like there was a small delay and, probably after some discussion over the headset, offside was given. Well done.
True but you can tell that the tug was on the side of the body that the referee couldn't see. At least it looked it to me. I think that's a pen if he sees it (not saying he'd give it but IMO it should be a pk).
Efan "Effin" Ekoku makes his reappearance. Pretty sure the foul on the corner in the 58th was on the guy in front of the dance couple.
Ballsy from Cakir. Stopped him, warned him next, and finally had enough and gave the throw to the Algerians (79th). He's got to be one of my favorites, granted I haven't seen all of his performances.
Algerian substitute just grabbed the ball and kept it from a Russian trying to restart with a free kick. Nothing excessive and the referee dealing with it would be more trouble than it's worth, but that sort of conduct from a substitute should not be condoned. Has anyone ever seen a substitute get a DR caution for behavior like this?
For all the US fans who were complaining Sunday/Monday about added time, in this game they changed from 3 to 4 due to the slow Algerian substitution. Well done by this crew, IMO.
Looked like ALG sub actually kicked the ball away, didn't just hold it - don't have a replay to look at to confirm that. If he did, the caution was earned and I'm glad it was delivered.
I never seen a yellow before on a bench player. Normally you would see the player dismissed from the bench.
Substitutes or substituted players can most certainly be subject to misconduct, so they can be shown yellow and red cards. So technically they aren't dismissed, like bench personnel and coaches, but rather sent off, when warranted.
No, you wouldn't. A substitute or substituted player guilty of misconduct must be shown a card. This individual's status as a substitute does not change the fact that delaying the restart is a cautionable offense.
I gave one last weekend... except he was a field player who had subbed himself off at the next out after I played advantage on a tactical foul. Took me a moment to find where he disappeared to when I looked around the field.
Didn't watch most of this game but why was Capello all over Cakir at the end ? That interview he was fuming and saying they were denied clear penalty and what not. Just sour grapes or were there incidents this game ?
I noticed that as well, I think he was angry about the freekick which led to the goal? But didn't seem like the ref was biased towards Algeria in that game.
Was he angry about the laser pointer being shined in his keeper's face before the goal? Don't know what the CR can do about that, though.
In my fantasy world I'd like an announcement over the PA system that if the laser reappeared the stands would be cleared and the game would be finished in an empty house. Then we might get to see if Mr. laser could get out alive. Probably a bad idea though.
No, it is a good idea. No respect for people who don't show respect. One should shot with a laserpointer into their eyes until they are blind.
