Are you forgetting about Brazil throwing the match so that they will go into an easier draw?

They wont want to play us either at the minute. Brazil has the tools to hurt chile and has a very good record against them

I feel a bit dirty. Horrible football in ball possession, but we sucked them dry of energy and hit them on the counter. Sanchez was nullified by Blind and energy bunny Kuyt.

The counter from Robben/Depay was perfect. The header from Fer was also pretty good.

Again. Our finishing is pretty good (though in the first half we should have done better in this respect), our football is not.

There's a discussion on TV now that the desire to play dominant and attacking football has been buried for good AND that the mentality has changed within Netherlands.

For me that can be a problem, if this becomes a cultural thing. Not good for creating and nurturing creative players.

Disagree with critics whining about Holland's performance they played perfect game plan played tactically perfect to win the match vs Chile who needed to press for a win Dutch allowed 1 shot on goal it doesn't get any better than that and took full advantage of their opportunities with 2 goals = full credit to coaching staff and players.

Be patient... the tournament is not over yet. His post match comments were levelheaded. I suspect he is not quite done yet...

I've been thinking about that. A lot. It's just too early to conclude anything. But no one can argue against the fact that this is the weakest Dutch team of any World Cup in living memory, yet on any match day we stand a chance of beating anyone. This is where the great paradox lies - to win with a style we believe in. Just too hard to predict now; I just want to enjoy the moment :D

I think this can backfire on the long run. Think about why big companies like Nike have paid big money to be on Holland's their shirts, for example.

Had Holland opened up and played more attacking football they may very well have conceded goals
on the counter attack and a loss in this match. Tactics were exceptional for Holland to succeed you game plan and play the game to defeat the opponent not to please the media.

Seriously, to have as small country the big media against you can be a big burden.

haha I have no proof but in the back of my mind this was how I envisioned the group round. I have kept quiet of course for fear of being branded an idiot :)

And beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just ask some tiki-taka haters. (not one of them although I hate teams that pointlessly knit... and knit.... and knit. And then knit some more.)

Van Gaal couldn't give a F about Nike...attacking football will return next game...tactics proven perfect vs Chile got the win and some people are still complaining?! lol

van Gaal is playing the game with the players he has available. Maybe it's different if Strootman and van Ginkel are healthy, I'm not sure. The kind of play we saw today is more reminiscent of Sacchi's Milan teams of the 1990s than of the Dutch NT we are used to. I'm not saying that this is good, bad, or indifferent; it's just the way it is. I suspect that we will see something completely different in the Euro 2016.

I was on record some weeks ago that I was not at all worried about Spain, that Chile was our main opponent in this Group though in the back of my mind I thought we would finish even on points with Chile.

How good are Croatia making the play? Mexico seem preferable from a historic point of view.... but that Holland is gone it seems.... leaning towards Croatia.... I think.
    Maybe..

V Gaal was asked to comment on Chilean coach post-match statements, where he said Dutch players played anti-football, parked the bus, or something of that nature.

That aspiration for perfection is why Holland grew above the Norway level.

Sympathy and backing from sponsors, public etc. is a reason why you get the means to grow good players in the first place.

Mwoah.... for a given value of "good". If winning football games is not considered 'good' I don't know what is.

Nice to look at? Not so much... Good execution of a plan? Yes! Effective? Very! Will I enjoy the next games? Probably!

That is pretty good in my book!

On the others hand this system benefits just as much (or maybe even more) from technical, creative players to find the 'deadly exit forwards' . Especially in defence and midfield. I am not so pessimistic.
