Seems like McCall expects Darren to be out in the Summer.

"Motherwell goalkeeper Darren Randolph two-match ban upheld
Motherwell have failed to overturn a two-match suspension handed out to goalkeeper Darren Randolph. Scottish FA compliance officer Vincent Lunny had issued a complaint after the Republic of Ireland international kicked out at Hearts' Callum Paterson. And the SFA's judicial panel agreed that the incident during Saturday's 0-0 draw constituted violent conduct...."

"Motherwell stand-in No.1 Lee Hollis admits he doesn't expect run in side despite starring role in Cup draw.

    3 Dec 2012
HOLLIS took his place between the sticks due to Darren Randolph's two-match ban but reckons he'll step aside once the Fir Park first-choice returns.

LEE HOLLIS hasn’t enjoyed much luck in his career and doesn’t see that changing soon despite keeping Motherwell’s Scottish Cup dream alive. The rookie stepped up to the plate with several quality saves to help the Fir Park side escape with a 1-1 draw at Aberdeen. But the 26-year-old doesn’t expect his heroics to guarantee his place in the replay as he’s convinced suspended No.1 Darren Randolph will be back between the sticks because he’s the best keeper in the country alongside Celtic star Fraser Forster.
“...I don’t think I’ve any chance of playing in the replay. Not at all! Randolph’s been outstanding. He and Forster are the top two keepers in the country so all I can do is take my chance when it comes along. Darren never gets injured or anything. He’s top notch and I’ll be really surprised if nobody snaps him up in the summer. I wasn’t sure whether I’d be playing at Aberdeen because there was an appeal against his ban."

Better than Nick Rimando? Sean Johnson?

Yeah, probably. Sean Johnson is not a fair comparison though. Randolph is only 2 years older than Johnson but Randolph has been a pro for NINE years and Sean Johnson three.

Randolph is entering into the prime of his career, while Sean is still a ways off from that. Would be better to revisit how the match up against one another four or five years from now.

One would have to assume Darren will inherit the #1 shirt left by Butland. I think it's a good move for him. It seems like the natural next step in his budding career. From what I've seen, he's a very a fundamentally sound GK with loads of athleticism. He should be a good, cheap(ish) pickup for BC. He could turn out to be a hidden gem of sorts.

He's quite young for a keeper and was apparently one of (if not the) best keepers in the SPL this past season. If he has a good year in the Championship, I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot as a third keeper which is what he currently is for Ireland.

Take me down to Birmingham City where the cash is green and the girls are pretty...

Why would he switch just for a lateral move on the depth chart?

I'd rather be a 3rd goalkeeper on a team that regularly makes the world cup than on a middling European team that rarely ever makes the Euros and WC.

Picked up his 2nd cap for Ireland in a friendly against Spain in Yankee Stadium, no less.

You assumed correctly.........Randolph has started in the League games thus far, while Colin Doyle was in goal for the Capital 1 Cup

"DERBY County had to settle for a point against Birmingham City as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Pride Park Stadium.... Ward had a great chance to opening the scoring inside 90 seconds after being sent clean through by Jake Buxton but his effort was blocked by keeper Darren Randolph."

"Lee Clark says he has ‘total belief’ in centre-halves Dan Burn and Kyle Bartley.... “In Dan Burn’s case, we have had 15 league and cup matches and for 13 of those he has been outstanding.
“And alongside Darren Randolph and Paul Robinson, he has probably been the most consistent player."

Birmingham took a big leap towards safety with a 3-1 win at fellow-strugglers Doncaster at the weekend. The scoreline would suggest they were on top, but in reality they were battered - heavily - by Doncaster. The win was built on a virtuoso display from Randolph, who pulled off a string of saves, 3 of them world-class.

Randolph really made the difference between the two teams. He looked a different class; world class.

Honestly not sure why he isn't the Irish #1 right now. He is better than Forde imo.

I'm about 50% Irish heritage (half true Irish and the other half Scot-Irish) so I follow the national teams of Ireland and Scotland closely. Needless to say I was dumbfounded by some of Trapattoni and now Martin O'Neill's choices in goal and in defense.

The obsession with mediocre players like St Ledger and Kelly is confounding. The frequent call ups of Green and Stokes, is equally baffling. Real shame can't have a united Irish team. I believe the boys make the World Cup this year with J Evans, S Davis, C Brunt and K Lafferty manning those four roster slots instead, don't ya think?

With the way things actually stand though, the reality is that Ireland desperately needs a top class CB to emerge soon. The team is solid in most spots when everyone is available for selection but CB is a huge hole now that O'Shea and Dunne are past it. I had hopes C Clark would come good but he hasn't proven international caliber, unfortunately...

Might be a step down in order to step up. Birmingham in desperate financial straits, with their owner doing serious time in a Hong Kong prison, turmoil in the executive suite, a manager that doesn't really feel he can do anything there but can't afford to quit, fans drifting away, etc. Sheffield United on the other hand have some money and fell just short of the promotion playoffs with a late run and still average 15k per home game.

Should be a good move for him.
