I believe you have to be suspended for a match you could potentially play in. Wasn't Lloyd in the same position at one point?

Grrrr, you just had to bring that unpleasant memory up

I hope the same applies here. It wouldn't be fair for one player to count a match they're not available for and another player can't do the same.

That is right the Canadians play just the one match. Diana Matheson could be a good pick up, might have to change things around. Washington looked really boned losing 5 players to call ups, 4 of defense. At least they keep some players.

As for Jazmine Reeves, she is probably the only one that will start both games. Ezurike will start the second game. So have to go with the math and Reeves should get some opportunities to score.

Finally checked my stats- 101.5 points this week. Jodie Taylor was the big winner with 30 points, but I had Harris' 24 points on the bench . My other 3 bench players put up a 0 each, so that's not too terrible.

Ugh, well that implosion at Portland should make some dramatic changes. More importantly because I captained Angerer who got red carded, this should be a disaster week for me. At least I got 2 players with shut out points. But Kerr and Lloyd will be fantasy studs this week.

There are some players that you basically are forced to have on your roster since if they pick up goals, its going to be costly for you, Kim Little is that. 2 goals today. Really was debating on captaining Holiday today but decided to go safe with Angerer. Well not so safe, but Holiday picked up 2 goals as well. With 4 players already with 2 goals, we might see a big fantasy point week.

Going to really need my Washington players to come through and provide some scoring on Wednesday.

I am like 'I give up'. I made so many changes to my lineup - kind of overthought things instead of going with my gut. Bad moves.

Just annoyed at what happened in Portland. You can't predict this, can't foresee stuff like this happening and you can look at match ups, then a game like this appears and it just blows your whole week up. So painful. Especially with no Wambach, WNY Flash on a winless in 5 match streak with only one point! in that stretch. Just can't forsee them blowing Portland out like that. Just wow.

Guess who has Kerr, Lloyd, Williams, and Little this week? Oh, and Robinson with the shutout. On the not so smart front, I have Holiday on the bench with Vero in the lineup.

Nice, good work. You decided the risk was good enough to play those players. Sometimes I can be a homer and take home team players, but most of the time, I work on using match ups and who is playing in form and which players are gone on NT duty and so forth.

Without Wambach and playing against a Portland side with new players coming in, and a team that has lost 4 out of their last 5. I really wasn't expecting this goal fest, but part of that can be contributed to the silly red card issued to Angerer. That ref should not have decided the match like that. That was a brutal red card to give because Angerer was mad at that penalty kick. Have a thick skin, and allow the players to vent. Its not the end of the world.

Things like that are completely out of my control to predict and that is what is frustrating about that match. I had 2 shut out players, 2 players with 2 goals and then the Flash on a 2 game week decide to wreck Portland for 5 goals. Those are fantasy leader board changing moves that could be crippling to any team. Probably should of had at least Kerr in since she would of been on 2 games. But wow pretty devastating damage to my Fantasy team.

The nice part about you picking up all those Flash players. You should sky rocket up the rankings, hopefully if your not in the top 100, by the end of this week, you will be, maybe in the top 50, depending on who you captained.

Yeah, I'm not doing so hot this year, so I rolled the dice this week. And it paid off, although I don't think anyone expected Portland to collapse like they did after Angerer was sent off. So glad I switched to Williams.

So, week 10 is upon us, in spite of all this hoopla surrounding this 'other' tournament. Anyways, this week's tricky again with all the national callups, sorting through who is and isn't available. But that's what makes FL interesting!

GOL: Vancil (CHI) - btw is she the backup since LeBlanc is caled up for the international game vs. Germany?
DEF: Fletcher (SEA), Barnes (SEA), Wenino (CHI)
MID: Van Egmond (vc) (CHI), Tymrak (FCKC), Boquette (POR), Challupny (CHI)
ATT: Kawasumi (SEA), Hoy (c) (CHI), Taylor (WSH)

    subs:
    betos (POR)
    deines (SEA)
    shim (POR)
    kerr (WNY)

Yep Taylor Vancil should be keeper.... even though a double game for Red Stars, I was made a little nervous by the fact she has not played yet this season. Unless I change my mind, I have Heninger in for Dash as I think she has been great when on for McLeod. Looks like I better review the Intl Duty thread, as I currently have Little in my lineup... the only unchanging component.

Yeah I had Little in the lineup until the very last moment. Then I saw they have games on the same dates as the USWNT . Though it is rumored she has special powers - I wouldn't put it past her from playing 2 games in 2 different countries in the span of 1 day. The world is a mysterious place after all.

Actually Vancil has played one match this season, a 1-1 draw against SkyBlue.

I don't know why anyone would even think of putting Sitch in their lineup, but she's suspended for this FL week.

Picked up just 60.50 points this week. As I suspected this was going to be a disaster week for me. Dropped from 27th to 55th over all because of this. The shocking red card to Nadine Angerer which I thought was very excessive by the referee to give and then the 5 goals allowed just destroyed my fantasy week. Especially since I captained Angerer who was a -11 points. If I captained Little or Holiday, my week would of been much better.

Here are the match ups for Week 10:

    Saturday, June 14
Houston Dash vs FC Kansas City - Sat 9:00pm

    Sunday, June 15
Chicago Red Stars vs Skyblue FC - Sun 2:00pm
Portland Thorns FC vs Washington Spirit - Sun 5:00pm

    Wednesday, June 18
WNY Flash vs Chicago Red Stars - Wed 7:00pm

    Thursday, June 19
Boston Breakers vs Seattle Reign FC - Thu 7:00pm

So we have an odd week where we have 4 league match dates and they are back to back to each other. The Chicago Red Stars are the only team on a double game and everyone else is on a single with no bye teams this week.

I think before I preview the matches, that everyone needs to be reminded again that national team players are away on call ups. Both the American, Canadian and players like Lianne Sanderson, Nina Burger, Kim Little and Jessica Fishlock will be away.

Houston Dash vs FC Kansas City: Houston is on a 3 match winning streak and have done this without their American allocations for the most part. They played 2 matches ago. Very hard to predict with an on form side like the Dash who look much better then they were in the beginning of the season. This should be a tight match.

Chicago Red Stars vs Skyblue FC: Chicago losses Julie Johnston, Christen Press, Adriana Leon, Karina Leblanc, but Skyblue losses Christie Rampone, Kelley O'Hara, Sophie Schmidt and Jonelle Filigno. On a side that has a hard time scoring goals and a weak defense, Chicago should have a sizable edge here. Good shut out possibilities

Portland Thorns FC vs Washington Spirit: After that disaster performance against the Flash and without Angerer and all their allocated players gone. Its very hard for me to go out and say Portland even has an edge here. Then again the Spirit just looked bad against the Breakers. This match is a total toss up for me.

WNY Flash vs Chicago Red Stars: The good news is the Flash has their Spanish and Aussie players available. The bad news that didn't help them against Houston which they looked very pedestrian and not the giant killers like they did against Portland. The Red Stars on the other hand have Jenn Hoy, Vanessa DiBernardo and Lori Chalupny manning the offense and their defense is still pretty good. Edge has to go to the Red Stars for this game and another good chance for a shut out.

Boston Breakers vs Seattle Reign FC: Will the new kids play up to their potential like the 2 starts they were given before? They will have to since its the best club in the league they will be facing. Seattle even short handed like they are, still have players like Naho, Goebel up front and their defense is still fairly intact. Seattle should have the decided edge, but if the young guns from the Breakers play like they did the last 2 starts, they could surprise.

-Chicago should be keyed on for shut outs, secondary possibilities Kansas City and Seattle. You could try even Washington since the Portland offense has been missing and without their allocated players, it may even be more harder since Sinclair, Morgan, Long are all gone.
-Stay away from Portland players unless you think they can solve their scoring problems.
-Naho, Goebel, Hoy will be the top forwards this week. Especially Hoy since she has 2 good match ups this week.

    Defensive Picks for this week:

Jenn Hoy (Chicago Red Stars): 2 matches this week, has to be picked up. She is a shooter and will most likely score.

Lori Chalupny (Chicago Red Stars): Again 2 match week. Needs to be picked up.

Chicago defense: Possibilities of 2 shut outs are just too good to ignore. Pick up 2 defenders or combination of goal keeper and defenders.

    Optional picks for this week:

Erika Tymrak (FC Kansas City): Its her show this week, she takes a lot of shots and provides a lot distribution. Could be a big fantasy point player.

Naho Kawasumi (Seattle Reign): Probably the better pick out of the two Seattle forwards. Naho has more potential for points with her crosses and passing.

Samantha Kerr (WNY Flash): Washington is down quite a few defenders and their goal keeper. Can the real Flash show up though?

Week 10 line up, bolded players are starters. 4-3-3 formation.

Like last week, the combination of National Team players away on duty and some tricky matches some match ups have to be favored and because I need the points to recover from last week. Going to go heavy on Chicago defenders to get back into the race.

Goalkeepers: Taylor Vancil (Chicago), Sara Keane (FCKC)
Defenders: Samantha Johnson (Chicago), Michelle Wenino (Chicago), Elli Reed (Seattle), Leigh Ann Robinson (FCKC), Kendall Fletcher (Seattle)
Midfielders: Lori Chalupny (Chicago), Erika Tymrak (FCKC), Veronica Boquete (Portland), Keelin Winters (Seattle)
Forwards: Nahomi Kawasumi (Seattle), Jenn Hoy (Chicago), Beverley Goebel (Seattle),
    Jessica McDonald (Portland)

    Taylor Vancil (Captain)

With so many NT players gone, it was very hard for me to fill out a midfield that I would be confident with so I went with a 4-3-3 line up. If Chicago gets a shut out, then its very good, if not, its very bad for me. Had a hard time deciding what defenders I wanted to take with my Chicago picks so I decided to split them with Reed and Robinson since they both are outside backs.

Really thought long and hard about finding a reason to take Flash players. But they play at Chicago on their bouncy turf, they seriously have a good chance of being shut out so I had to avoid them. I wanted to take more Portland players for Washington since the Spirit have Harris, Krieger, Dunn and Gayle, 4 starting players on their defense on call ups. But Portland have struggled hard to score and Seattle has a good match up against the Breakers so went with the safe route. Might change this later, but its so hard to trust Portland after I got burnt several times this season with them.

Debated about captaining Jenn Hoy but went with Vancil. One shut out should be huge points and 2? Could get me right back into the hunt. Going for the big boom or bust route.

Edit: I noticed I put Samantha Kerr in facing off against Washington. This of course isn't true since the Flash are against Chicago Red Stars. Just a correction there.

I feel like Kim Little and Jess Fishlock's absence will have a huge impact on Seattle's offense. Not to mention that Keelin Winters might still be out from her head injury from the CHI game. That completely guts the entire Seattle midfield, so the question is, who steps in? I have a feeling we might see some changes from the back line due to this, with potentially Kendal Fletcher or Lauren Barnes stepping into the midfield in a 'Winters/Fishlock-esque' role. Both have played in the midfield before in Australia and have shone rather well. It's definitely going to be a tough one to predict their lineup, but here's my best shot at what t might look like:

    GK: Kopmeyer
DEF: Reed, Deines, Barnes, Brigman (first pro start, calling it!)
    MID: Fletcher, Noguiera, Foxhoven
    ATT: Kawasumi, Goebels, Dallstream

I have a feeling that Foxhoven will slip into the empty Little role, with Dallstream starting up top again instead of fullback to make use of her pace/past experience as a forward. I imagine Foxhoven going central because, isn't she a good passer? Haven't seen a lot of her this season, but I would imagine that whoever slips into Little's role has to be adept at passing

Do note that Reed is a yellow card danger. Don't get me wrong, she is my favorite defender on the team, but she isn't afraid to get physical on the defensive end (what makes her great), which can cause fantasy problems. I personally tend to go with Fletcher instead of Reed because Fletcher is always called forward on set pieces and is a frequent target in the box. Combined with excellent Naho service, she already has a good number of SOG and 2 goals to prove for it. Just my 2 cents though.

EDIT: Also Jodie Taylor is a potentially great option in the attack. WSH is facing a very depleted POR squad, and Taylor has been a FL stud the past few weeks. Nairn is also a potentially good Mid, as statistically she averages over 5 ppm in FL.

Yeah I was debating how good Washington would be, but they looked pretty bad when they played against the Breakers without their internationals. And Washington without their starting 4 back line players. Harris, Krieger, Dunn and Gayle will probably mean that they will be defending for long stretches.

The POR/WSH game will be an interesting one for sure. Lots of potential craziness and goals in this one. Portland without their solid attacking trio of Morgan/Long/Sinclair (though they've been dealing without Morgan for most of the season) and no Angerer. Betos is a very solid backup though, she was just left high and dry last game being down to 10 players.

And Washington without their backline/goalkeeper and no Matheson. Now that I'm writing this , maybe Portland does have the edge... ERGH I hate this. Just kidding. I love it. Blowing up my squad: Nairn in for Boquette, Kerr on bench, McDonald for Taylor? Wait. No. I really hate this. I want 15 players in my starting 11. Is that too much to ask, fantasy gods?

Picked up 75.50 points this week. Slid another 2 spots to go down to 57th over all. Chicago really disappointed that week and could not get a single shut out and Taylor Vancil who I captained, had a horrible outing. So my choices of captaining have not been good for the last 2 weeks. Its costing me a lot of points.

    Match ups for Week 11:

    Saturday, June 21
Washington Spirit vs Portland Thorns FC - Sat 6:30pm
FC Kansas City vs Chicago Red Stars - Sat 8:00pm

    Sunday, June 22
Skyblue FC vs Boston Breakers - Sun 1:00pm
WNY Flash vs Seattle Reign FC - Sun 3:00pm

    Wednesday, June 25
Portland Thorns vs Skyblue FC - Wed 10:00pm

Only 5 matches for this week, with Houston on the Bye week. Portland and Skyblue play twice this week. Should be interesting if Portland can give us a more consistent performance with all their players now back in the line up. All the internationals should be back in the line up this week. Whether they start or come in as a sub instead will be the question since many of them will only have one day break in between the matches and would have had to come back to their clubs after several time zone differences. Should be tricky to decide on line ups for Saturday and Sunday, especially if you want to start Little or Fishlock in your line up.

Washington Spirit vs Portland Thorns FC: Portland should have a decided edge here. Sinclair, Boquette will start, Morgan was a sub in her match against France and could potentially be a starter as well. Heath I believe is finally available so Portland should be a full strength. Against the Spirit defense? Portland should be shelling whoever is goal keeping. Remember Ashlynn Harris, Ali Krieger played the full 90. With only one day rest... Will Washington start them? Hard to say.

FC Kansas City vs Chicago Red Stars: Hard to say who will start. Lauren Holiday played the full 90, but she is the general on the pitch for the Blues. And if she is fit, she tends to always start. Amy Rodriguez came in on as a sub so she should be a starter. Chicago should be fairly fresh. Karina LeBlanc played, but only for a half in her friendly. Julie Johnston did not play against France. And the big question is whether Sarah Hagen starts for the Blues. She has had no practice time with the club. I would hold off using Hagen until the Blues figure out a role for her.

Skyblue FC vs Boston Breakers: Skyblue had 2 players play in the friendlies. Christie Rampone subbed in at halftime and Kelley O'Hara subbed in late. Both should be able to start in their match. Heather O'Reilly for Boston, started but was subbed off at half time. She should be good to go. As to picking which team will be stronger? Your guess is good as mine. Skyblue has not looked good, but neither has Boston. I think I would give Boston a slight edge because they are playing at Harvard and Skyblue will probably have a tough time playing on a tough bouncy turf.

WNY Flash vs Seattle Reign FC: This is the match that will have fantasy owners pondering what to do with Little and Fishlock. Both will have only one day of rest before this match. Both will be spending hours on an airplane going from quite a few time zones to get back to Seattle. Odds of them starting seem to be slim. The Flash on the other had had Carli Lloyd who played the full 90 against France, so there will be some question if she starts as well.

Portland Thorns vs Skyblue FC: We won't have to worry about internationals starting or not. And because of that, expect Portland to be a big favorite for this match. There is always the caveat that Portland can have problems feeding the ball to their forwards, but with Boquete and Heath in the midfield, I think they will solve these issues.

-Portland is playing 2 games against 2 soft defenses. Their forwards should be taken but as well as their defense as they have a chance at a couple of shut outs. But Nadine Angerer still has to serve her suspension for her red card. So just remember that if you plan on taking their goal keeper.
-The other best opportunity for a shut out is probably Seattle against the WNY Flash. Hope Solo should start and Seattle has looked very good on the defense.

    Defensive Picks for this week:

Alex Morgan: After her 2 goals against France, coming in as a sub. Expect Morgan to be eager to score. She is a shot taker, so even without a goal, she should get fantasy points for her shots.

Portland Defense: Even with their struggles, they should be a full strength against 2 teams that can have problems scoring. Washington does score their fair share of goals, but they can be inconsistent as well. Skyblue even more so, so Portland should be in a strong position for a shut out.

    Optional picks for this week:

Megan Rapinoe: Has been upgraded to questionable, a risky pick, but if she plays, she is an impact player. Will have to wait and see about Rapinoe, but the safe bet is that she won't start this week.

Allie Long/Vero Boquette/Tobin Heath: Will they all start? What formation will Portland goto to get all 3 on the field. 4-4-2? Sinclair and Morgan up top and Brooks as the holding mid? And if they do start, who to pick up for your fantasy team? Long tends to be a shooter, Boquette, more of a playmaker and Heath, hard to say. With all 3, this will be the first time they will be all together.

Christine Sinclair: Probably have to be taken since both she and Morgan will start both games.

Kelley O'Hara/Monica OCampo/Katie Freels: If there is a Skyblue player that you want for these 2 matches, then its probably one of the 3. Ocampo and O'Hara only have 2 goals, but they play up top, so should get some shots. Freels takes all the free kicks and has scored 4 goals herself. Some of them on the free kick.

Christen Press: She is here because Kansas City is playing at Chicago and on the bouncy turf that Chicago play on, the Blues tend to not have as much possession as they normally do. Press could be a factor at Chicago.

Kim Little/Jessica Fishlock: played a friendly on the 19th. Will have one day maybe less of rest from it. Very hard to say if they will even start because more then likely they will play the full 90 for their team. Will they sub in? Will they even sit on the bench? Depends how well you know Laura Harvey and what she will do in this position.

Week 11 line up, bolded players are starters. 3-4-3 formation.

Goalkeepers: Hope Solo (Seattle-allocated), Lydia Williams (WNYF)
Defenders: Stephanie Catley (Portland), Nikki Marshall (Portland), Elli Reed (Seattle), Kendall Fletcher (Seattle)
Midfielders: Lauren Holiday (FCKC-allocated), Veronica Boquete (Portland), Katy Freels (Skyblue), Kim Little (Seattle), Erika Tymrak (FCKC)
Forwards: Alex Morgan (Portland-allocated), Christine Sinclair (Portland-allocated), Monica Ocampo (Skyblue-allocated), Beverley Goebel (Seattle)

    Alex Morgan (Captain)

For fantasy team owners, remember that Nadine Angerer has been red carded, so she will be under suspension. Basically unless you want to take a risk with a Skyblue keeper, your going with a one game keeper, so I chose Hope Solo. Kim Little slots into my lineup, but if she doesn't start or plays, then Tymrak will take her place. Ocampo takes my other starting forward, was a hard choice since I seriously thought about using Amy Rodriguez but with Ocampo playing 2 games and one of them against the Breakers, had to go with the match ups. Rodriguez against a tough Chicago defense could pose problems.

Focusing on Portland and Seattle for my shut outs. Hopefully I can get one or two games.

70 points for me this week. Leaned on Chicago, didn't come through. Like you, I captained Vancil. Dithered between her and Hoy. Choosing the former cost me almost 20 points.
