Found this in Rome. So when you do things like change the logo to all the factors @porrecca stated, it doesn't help this type of resentment.
So all the good things that the Americans did were cancelled by the logo? There is something deeper behind that sticker. I won't say it, I trust you are smart enough to figure it out.
Logo changes happen all of the time across all sports. This change just happened too close to a big loss that has historic significance in Rome. I don't think it's the design itself as much as what it's tied to that makes people hate it so much.
I think There will a similar outcry if the Redskins ever change their logo/name. I hope it never happens though.
Certain Roma fans will still be complaining about the logo when their grandchildren sit on their lap decades from now. And when the logo is inevitably changed again in another 20-30 years, the next generation will have the same fierce loyalty to the current logo as opposition to the newer one.
i'm not a hypocrite... regardless of the "tradition" and "intentions" of the name, it's racist as shit...
Says who? Where does anyone say that? It is kind of racist. If it were a reference to any other group of people, there would be outcry from people with clout, not just people who want to be internet activists. Dan Synder has said he's not changing it, so that's that, really. At least until Dan Synder isn't owner of the team anymore. Some of the journos who are protesting that name bug me though. Peter King calls them the Redskins for 20+ years, and suddenly he's horribly offended and will only call them the Washington football team? Fraud.
A redskin is, for aboriginal Americans, what a colored person is for African Americans. As in NAACP, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
