It seems Blind is really impressing Thiery Henry, naming him player of the match. Henry is guest commentator on BBC1

so, so far we've seen two Brasilians - Neymar yesterday & Costa today - who should've gotten red cards for their blatant fouls

V Gaal & coaching staff took some great notes and during halftime made fantastic adjustments to completely dismantle the Spaniards. Just two days ago there was so much doubt and uncertainty. Oh how quickly things can change...

It is amazing how close it could be though - if Cillessen does not make the save at 1-0 so down 2-0, that would be really tough to come back from

I have no idea what Van Gaal told the players at half time. The Dutch team in the 2nd half looked like a team possessed. I was honestly expecting the Spaniards to win the game based on what they did in the 1st half. The Dutch defense looked bad and sloppy. The Spanish were doing their usual possessing BS and the Dutch couldn't get the ball back. These guys had the game of a lifetime. Unbelievable what they did in the 2nd half. Goes to show what excellent coaching does. Had they played like this in 2010 they would have been champions.

I don't know if Holland is the favorite to win the cup now, but they are a legit threat if the attack stays this potent. Winning the group is an absolute must. Brazil should be avoided at all costs. When do the Dutch play next? lol

    Fun team to watch

Fantastic result vs Spain and start to WC2014 congrats Brilliant Oranje!!!!!

The big question with Spain coming into WC2014 was are they past it
as a group and are they hungry enough as a group to go all the way again.

My thoughts exactly, the first half the dutch defense looked brutal...then in the second half RVP and Robben were Gods amongst men.

    What a performance.

    congratulations

I know this is nick picking "down the bottom of the barrel" so they say, but I thought that for as brilliant as Robben was tonight, on that one play, he should have passed the ball. I would. His teammates all probably would. Anyhow, he did score.

But that is a very small detail to an otherwise historical match.

I think Sneijder should have scored from that pass from Lens. Not sure what went wrong there.

Heh I was thinking the same thing. OTOH a pass could easily go awry.

Let's hope no let down against the Aussies. Win that and we're as likely as good as in, hopefully can avoid Brasil until the semis if we get that far

Hmm, which are the 5 lads here that predicted a big win against Spain?:D

Congrats on this sensational result against the World Champion (what revenge for the lost WC final 2010) ... that's been very, very impressive.

Thought the Spanish defensive was going to crumble at 2010, worth the wait.

    Thanks for the memories

    Very excited right now.

Spain got a penalty gifted from a dive and that goal from RvP showed the world how the WC should be played. Vital and stunning goal. Second half was stuff of dreams, without me losing track of the fact we over performed and Spain was being arrogant. However we punished their arrogance and not many teams can do that.

The play from Netherlands was not of high quality, but the quality of the goals was very high. 2 separate things. I did not see off world intricate possession passing or a goal keeper with good distribution, but we cut through Spain like a hot knife through butter in the second half. That was of very high quality. Take that volley from Robben and RvP. The first touch from Robben for his first goal. Lovely stuff. You will not quickly see better finishing.

I thought Spain was cynical how they wanted to win from us, with a lousy dive from Costa. After what Fred did vs Croatia, it looked like this slowly became the diver WC. We showed them how excited football can be played with perfect regular good looking goals. Counter football can look great. Look at the Euro 2008.

Chile is demolishing Australia as I type this down. We have a lot of work to do, to become first in this group. Fingers crossed and one game at a time.

Yes, a very good win, but the team should not become complacent. A counterattacking side can rout a possession based team quite harshly when they have a bad day. I remember PSV-Ajax and the cup final in particular. Still very happy about the result.

Unreal this lovely sport of football.
    Incredibly overjoyed with this result.
Kudos to Van Gaal and the players who were fantastic.
Spain looked slow, tired, and sloppy in the 2nd Half.
I was worried with DeGuzman who was clearly pulling out of challenges.
Oranje were excellent keeping shape and just over ran the Spaniards.
    Complete demolition!
    So happy.

    This.

The Spanish were out coached today and the Dutch came prepared. Van Gaal exceeded my expectations.
