It's not Lil Kim, who is on top of the world.
    It's Kim Little.
And yet again, she proves that size does not matter.

I hope Scotland qualifies for Canada 2015, because I sure want to see such a talent as Kim Little play at the WWC.

We finally got that top of the table clash out of the way.

About the game, I thought collectively this was one of our better performances over the course of the entire match. The physicality that Chicago plays with forced the team to wake up from their now world renowned first half drowsiness. The passes where sharper and purposeful.

The defense, especially Barnes, had a fantastic match. I'm not one to shout give X player a call up but it will be in the best interest of the national team if Barnes got a call up especially given how thin our center back depth is. As a player, she's not overly fast but reads the game well and is an intelligent player. She reminds me of Sauerbrunn in that regard.
I personally I'm a sucker for a player with a good left foot so that's why Cox is becoming one of my favs. Her passes (minus the 1 that she will usually sky each game), are so deadly accurate that it's a pleasure to watch. It's like she put those passes on a rope or something. Reed also had a solid game for herself.

In the middle, Winters, Fishlock and Little did their thing.

This game was one of the best for our forwards. Golazo aside, I think Leroux had her best performance. This is one of those games that you can reference to show how she has improve parts of her game, especially her first touch. The one noticeable area she still needs to improve though is taking on defenders. I think she should work more with Little and Rapinoe on that aspect.
The presence of Naho also add so much to this offense that was missing before. It gives Little a legitimate/creative option on the right of the pitch that was missing when she was away.

And lastly, I hope Winters will be OK after the hit last night as we are really going to need her presence on the field with the others away. I'm glad that our next match is 12 days away as it gives the players ample time to recover from a bruising match.

We will be seeing some new faces against Boston. Chief among them being Kopmeyer. I'm excited to see her start her first match and I guessing she is too.

I was in the NW corner for the game, amazing game. Christen Press can jet.

Stephanie Cox was fantastic, as well as Barnes. The whole back line really worked well together, but I thought Cox was outstanding.

In the first half, Press and Chalupny really pressed the backline, and challenged Solo at every chance. Initially, the Seattle back line looked a little dicey dealing with the pressure. Chicago probably missed their best chances early in the first half. I thought Cox really stepped up here, often covering the center backs, just refusing to let Press get the ball in behind. I thought Cox really helped calm down the back line.

After halftime, Press started dropping back for the ball, and trying to get through the wings more. Each individual defender just stripped her of the ball. Press did get one shot off, ripped on frame, directly to Solo. Other than that, Press was handled well by the defense (without knocking her down, I might add).

I really thought Winters was not right after the elbow. She had troubles completing passes, seemed to get wrong-footed a lot. I hope she's OK. Nogueira was a great sub. Not one of the Red Stars could handle her physically. Nogueira won every header, and made good plays with the ball.

Those saying Seattle's bench is weak aren't counting Nogueira and Deines. Those two coming in allow Fishlock and Little to move forward. When that happened, Chicago got pinned in their own end, facing attack after attack. Had Fishlock passed instead of chipped, that was likely another tap in goal.

I was extremely pleased to see Bev Goebel play enforcer and shoulder a Chicago player into the boards. Chicago was throwing elbows into Fishlock and Little's faces all game long. Physical is fine, if you're playing the ball. Chicago had no intention of playing the ball on several of their hits, and came in behind several times and leveled Fishlock. I get that's one way to play a possession team, but weak to cry about getting called on fouling tactics after the fact.

Not yet. Which is really wierd. I hope this is not a sign of what to expect in the post-Joe era.

Since Carmelina Moscato is being included on Canada's roster vs Germany, should the team be expecting her before or after the game?

Also, anyone want to give a crack at the starting lineup against Boston?

The only one I'm almost positive about is the backline.

    GK - Kopmeyer (Solo)

    LB - Barnes (Cox)
    CB - Deines (Barnes)
    CB - Fletcher
    RB - Reed

    MF - Winters
    MF - Noqueira (Fishlock)
    MF - Foxhoven (Little)

    RF - Kawasumi
    CF - Goebel
    LF - Dallstream (Leroux)

She will be in the 18 and might even see playing time but given that she haven't so far this season, I'm just going with what we have seen.

Of the players I have starting, only Kopmeyer haven't played at all this season. All the others have. I do expect that Brigman might be an option off the bench for Dallstream.

    GK - Kopmeyer (Solo)

    LB - Brigman
    CB - Barnes
    CB - Fletcher
    RB - Reed

    MF - Deines
    MF - Nogueira
    MF - Winters

    RF - Kawasumi
    CF - Goebel
    LF - Foxhoven

With Dahlstream able to sub multiple positions, more flexible lineup.
I think Deines is better in MF than CB.
This is about the strongest MF lineup we could manage. Worst case, being this strong up the middle would be a bear to attack.

I think your lineup (Blaze) is more likely tho.

I think it is pretty safe to say her injury was more than an adductor muscle strain at this point.

Any updates on Winters? Anyone think she will be ready to start on Thursday? Or sub?

If she's not starting, I see this as the lineup:

    GK - Kopmeyer
    LB - Brigman
    CB - Deines
    CB - Barnes
    RB - Reed

    LDM - Noguiera
    RDM - Fletcher
    AM - Foxhoven

    RF - Kawasumi
    CF - Goebel
    LF - Dallstream

But I wouldn't be surprised to see Laura Harvey try something crazy, perhaps throwing Lauren Barnes as the AM option and moving Foxhoven in for Dallstream in the attacking trio, keeping Dallstream as an offensive sub option. I actually really want to see Barnes as an AM now...

I have not heard anything from the Seattle camp but given that Winters was on twitter making light of the situation, I think she will be fine. They have 12 days between games so I do think that's enough time to recover.

Also, there is absolutely no way Barnes is going to play in the midfield. Why will Harvey mess with a back line that is starting to play well by moving the anchor of said midfield in the middle. If there is going to be any changes to that backline, it will be in the left back position. We have seen Barnes play there once this season against FCKC and there's a good chance we would see the back 4 from that match. If Brigman is going to see minutes on this team, it will be upfront, where she played during the preseason.

So after waiting 84 years for my customized Reign FC kit, I opened my door this morning and bam, it was right there.

This obviously mean that I have to take a trip to the west coast to catch a Reign match live. I was eyeing the July 27 match against Portland.

Hm. Well Brigman is listed as a defender, and I figure if she were to be used there, it would be as an outside back, favoring experience in central defense.

As for Barnes, she played in the midfield in Australia and did really well there. I'm not saying it's going to happen, just that I think it would be a neat experiment to see how that might transition into the Seattle squad in the absence of Little and Fishlock. Barnes is a great passer/distributer, and I think that could be used effectively to spread the ball out to Seattle's attacking players. I do certainly hope Winters is OK though, as that would solve a lot of issues in the midfield.

I think when Cox was unavailable, Barnes went to the outside and Deines in the middle. I thought it was the diciest we've looked on defense. Maybe having Barnes in front of the defense would work better, but it seems unnecessary to break up the CB tandem when it's been working so well, AND change the LB position as well.

I don't think the Breakers game will be so much about dominating the game with possession. IMO it should be about keeping good defensive shape, players in familiar positions, and letting Naho and Goebel work their magic up top.

That seems like a pretty sound approach, keeping the defensive core intact. I am very curious to see who slots into the midfield, however, as I feel this will have the most impact on our defensive capabilities.

I feel like our backline has been as good as it's been due in great part to our possession/control of the midfield (best defense is offense, right?). It seems like our midfield has prevented a ton of chances to even come through and test the backline. Without that strong core of Little/Fishlock/potentially Winters, it should be fun to see how the defense holds up on its own. Granted the Reign will be up against Boston, who have been equally gutted in midfield, so the point might be moot regardless.

All that aside, I hope we crush 'em 6-0 , with a Kawasumi double hattrick.

    :p

I thought Nogueira was really strong when she came in for Winters vs Chicago. Nogueria Deines in back with Winters AM should be quite good.
