How many of these players have a realistic chance of starting for the national team down the line? I'm talking about when we field our full-strength team, not the Olympics or the EAFF.

So I think most of our attention will be on the Wildcards until we hear who he actually calls up.

Whether we like or not, wildcards will come from the WC squad as Lee Gwang-jong has said.

I think Kim Shin-wook is a certain and then Kim Seung-kyu is almost a certain. Then there is the third choice out of a handful of possibilities.
The position I think that can be most effectively used from the choices is the RB - Lee Yong. The fact that Lee Gwang-jong used Choi Sung-geun as RB during the AFC U-22 Championships (although Park Jun-kang was injured) and the latest Kuwait friendly (although he went off injured very early and we saw Park Jun-kang play) was an indicator to me that RB was a concern of a position.
There's also Im Chang-woo who was a favorite but now doesnt seem like it, and used him as a CB in the U-22.

But will Lee Gwang-jong use all his wildcards on Ulsan players? is a tough question to answer.

Even though the World Cup has not even started, this is my guess on the 20-man squad:
    GK:
    Kim Seung-kyu
    Noh Dong-gun

    CB:
    Jang Hyun-soo
    Hwang Do-yeon
    Yeon Je-min

    Fullbacks:
    Kim Jin-soo
    Gwak Hye-sung
    Lee Yong

    Central midfielders:
    Kim Young-wook
    Lee Jae-sung
    Son Joon-ho
Choi Sung-geun (can also fill in at RB)

    Attacking Midfielders:
    Son Heung-min
    Yoon Il-rok
    Kim Seung-dae
    Kim Kyung-joong
    Ahn Yong-woo
    Ryu Seung-woo

    Centre Forwards:
    Kim Shin-wook
    Lee Jong-ho

    -Wildcards
    -Players from U-21 squad

However, there are still problems with the selections.
-Lee Gwang-jong still likes strikers Kim Hyun and Lee Yong-jae and Hwang Eui-jo.
-From the U-21 squad I think, Moon Chang-jin and/or Lee Chang-min still have good chance.
-The positions that I think he will have most thoughts about will be: Substitute Centre-back, the last wildcard position and the Central midfield. Depending on the last wildcard some selections will be changed.

I'd have to think SHM would go barring club causing problems no?

Not sure what you're asking but Son will still be 22 when AG rolls around so he wouldn't take up a wild card spot.

i would say roughly a starting 11 could be created from this pool so roughly 11-18 have full national team potential. i can see post-AG some potential national team situations where we have far more debatable absences besides CDR or LMJ. it will only get more intense when our current U-19s come into the mix near 2018. i think it will have a lot more to do with the current national team manager at the time and his tactics. it gives him a lot more flexibility than we currently have which is 25 or so good to decent players but i see it going to roughly 40-45 good to decent players.

i would bet on players like RSW, the Pohang boys, Kim Young-Wook, Yoon Il-Rok, Lee Chang-Min, Kim Seung-Joon, Lee Jong-Ho, etc. plus ones already in the mix like SHM, Kim Jin-Soo, Jang Hyun-Soo

We're not sure about him. He had a knee injury a couple years ago. Depending on how serious it was, he could potentially be granted an exemption for health reasons (other footballers have).

Which reminds me of the dilemma we'll have next year with Son in next year's Asian Cup if Leverkusen does allow Son to play in the Asian games. It's very likely that he'll only be allowed to play in only one of the two as Son would miss too much club time if he plays both tournaments over the season. Of course, technically they can't force Son to not play in the Asian Cup by FIFA's rules but they do have the right to refuse him to play AG from my understanding... and I'm sure they will bargain with that card. With military exemption on the line I'm sure BL would almost certainly let him play in the AG's, but I'm thinking it's very likely that he won't play in the AC in return.

Similar dilemma probably with other NT'ers who may be in consideration such as Hong JH and Park JH if he'd be in consideration for the Wild Card...

From what I've heard that the chances of him being granted an exemption is pretty high due to the nature of his injury.

I don't think it'll be a problem since Bundesliga's winter break lasts throughout the Asian cup.

D'oh. Have to admit that I forgot about how those two does overlap.

But I'd think they may still possibly play that card if they become concerned with his fitness and injuries and whatnot.

Lee Kwang-jong should know who to include his squad from the World Cup that will battle for the Gold Medal: Son, KSW, and KSK.

Seeing that we will naturally go in as favourites due to how much more seriously we take this more than anyone, plus the fact that we are at home, I think we'll see some serious bunkering by opposing defences... which isn't SHM's forte in breaking down necessarily...

I do wish KSW gets brought on as a wild card though as I feel that his height would definitely do some serious damage to them. If KSW ruled the air against opponents in the WC, he surely will as well for U-23.
