Football Weekly is running through the groups and this is the one that includes Group G. I was bracing for the usual dismissal of anyone not named Germany or Portugal, but I was pleasantly surprised. No real tactical analysis, but a lot of gut feelings that after Germany, it is too hard to call.
There's a great joke at the beginning of the podcast: "Group E looks easy for France, mind you Group Es (Groupies) usually do." So good.
He is carrying a guitar. I follow Franco Panizo on twitter and he was in the same airport yesterday in Jax and tweeted beckerman was carrying his guitar
I don't if someone else posted, and is kinda USMNT related; Soccer Morning will come to an end after the World Cup. Whether you liked it or not, kinda a bummer for media coverage in general on the sport and the USMNT.
Guzan takes the "Name the WC winners" quiz and fails miserably.. http://www.mlssoccer.com/video/2014...-trivia#ooid=1nOTM2bjraRwcuxBripR37iwfKnTeXT3 One of his answers will have you face-palming. I can't be the only one stunned at how you can play at such a high level and fail so miserably at rudimentary knowledge regarding the history of the game. I know these guys don't have time to sit around all day and look these things up but come on man.
Might be an unpopular opinion, but oh well. It was the kinda show that wasn't really of much value to the kind of people who are on this forum (hardcore fans) due to us already knowing everything they covered, yet that was their target demo since casuals wouldn't want to watch a daily podcast with any regularity. In other words, this was pretty much always gonna happen.
It's true it wasn't sustainable but I actually found if to be a valuable show. They discussed a lot of things I wouldn't think to read on here
On the previous pod most of the Guardian FW guys seemed very smugly confident about England going through, and dismissive of Uruguay. Struck me as lazy party-line thinking, much inferior to the "Men in Blazers" on Grantland. So I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that FW is taking seriously the prospects of the US and Ghana in Group G.
I guess value really depends on what each individual was looking to get from it. It was designed to be entertainment, which I enjoyed during events (USMNT games, the draw, etc) But I also wish that the show had been more geared towards in depth analysis of the team, which wasn't possible with a host who was essentially just one of us (a fan) with connections.
