Yeah, he was terrible. I hope Loew doesn't start him in any matches.

I hear what you're saying but I don't see it when he plays for the Mannschaft. His movement and passing in the last few games has been superb. If you're referring to his Arsenal form, he's pants but the Poldi I've seen lately has been a huge spark to the midfield and is making contributions that lead to goals.

I agree. Lately he's been motivated. I'm going largely by his past four years for Germany which was been dreadful. I remember he was equally up for it in 2012. More than that I think he doesn't offer a balance to the more technical players. He is playing like a fullback should, not a wing forward so his contribution will at times be just very direct. Which maybe we need but against more organized opposition where he doesn't have strength it can be a concern.

Losing Reus is absolutely killer. Especially losing him in the last game against a lowly Armenian side which clearly were only there for fitness purposes.

Well, Reus' injury could be a good thing. Remember when Kroos got injured against Arsenal in the CL and it forced Jupp to play/start Robben and Robben emerged as a hero in the CL? Don't get me wrong, Reus is one of the most talented players on the team (he's the best midfielder), but perhaps this will force Poldi and other players to step up their game. Also, it may lead to Volland going to Brazil.

    4 observations:

    1) Reus is rumored to be out for 6 weeks. I dunno what Loew thinks, but if I was him I would call up a replacement ASAP, preferably within today no matter who that is.

    2) Klose is more effective coming off the bench. Playing the last 30min instead of starting. Either Podolski or Goetze can start in place of Marco Reus, and I like what Podolski brings to the team: passion, tenacity and directness. Even Goetze coming off the bench as a sub won't be a bad thing

    3) today's first half showed us having three midfielders up top and interchanging in 4-3-3 may not necessarily be more effective than a direct approach in the 2nd half. Different opponents require different tactics.

    4) Schuerrle was very active up top. Much better than Goetze as a false 9. His finishing is still an issue though; and I have no idea why Draxler is brought to Brazil

    Conclusion:

    ---------------------Neuer
    ---Boateng----Mert---Hummels---Durm
    ----------------Lahm---Schweini
    ----Mueller---Kroos---Oezil----Podolski

Feel free to get excited over a meaningless friendly. Me? I'll stick to the Podolski I've seen for the NT since 2010. That Podolski has no business being in a DFB shirt anymore.

Do you ever actually contribute something of your own accord? Or are you always just content with being a vague contrarian all the time?

Anyone who says Poldi shouldn't be wearing a DFB shirt is apparently watching a different sport than the rest of us. He's not as technically skilled or intelligent in his movement.... but his directness is an asset.

I'm smiling on the inside with some nostalgia watching Poldi, Schweini and Klose again.

Podolski brings tenacity, passion, directness and some degree of lethality in front of goal

Not everyone has to be technically gifted. Podolski brings other attributes

Up top, I like Schuerrle more than Goetze. More active and better positioning inside the box. I know Goetze scored a brace today but Schuerrle showed more promise in receiving crosses from deep.

Everyone has to be technically gifted or he will constantly lose the ball like Podolski did against Italy 2012.

His goals per 90 was actually very good for Arsenal as well.

The trouble is he doesn't protect the left fullback this season, and he is not great against good defensive sides.

Götze should play LM mainly, with Podolski sub.

If that's the case Schuerrle will be the center forward. Oezil will be benched

Will most likely play a 4-3-3 now

Neuer; Boateng, Mertesacker, Hummels, Howedes; Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Kroos; Mueller, Oezil/Schuerrle, Goetze/Podolski

Maybe FIFA and UEFA need to start thinking more about the players and the quality of product on the field instead of money. Looking back at all the needless extra games (Confed cup, extra UEFA rounds, etc) it's no wonder guys are dropping like flies. They have no recovery time.

I think the formation will be a 4-2-4 like yesterday's second half.
