It was a lame attempt to riff on the memes that Dempsey was and Julian currently is a reserve player. But yeah, it would be pretty amazing.
They did that with Emere Can just last summer another player who was highly rated by them. Obviously since Liverpool just signed him they did not activate it though.
I think this is a bad move for all parties. Doubt Green would see any playing time, and Spurs would end up selling him off before he's useful to them. Would love to see Green move, but this doesn't seem like the right fit. Jumping from Bayern's reserves to the EPL seems like too much of a leap. I think he would do well with a year in a less physical league where he can continue to develop a bit more.
If Bayern sell him to Spurs without playing a single league game for them, then he isn't the shooting star prospect that he's been talked up to be. The EPL is also probably the single worst western European league for an 18 year old lacking in physical strength to go play in. That said, this sounds like a garbage rumor, as if someone connected the dots between Green, JK and Spurs.
According to the article it's 5 million pounds which by my calculation would make him this the 3rd most expensive US national team transfer ever. It isn't massive money, but it is a lot for a player with basically no first team experience. For the record haven't seen the rumor anywhere else. Even sky sports isn't reporting it (went on sky sports eeew I need a shower)
I don't see him playing for Spurs. He'a too small. I say that he should join Johannsson at Az on loan.
Just off the top of my head I can think of 5 transactions involving US players that exceeded the 5 million pound mark. Dempsey to Spurs and Seattle. Altidore to Villarreal and Sunderland. Bradley to Toronto.
I fully expect BM to reject this deal, if a bid it tabled. What will lend credence to it however is if other clubs start jumping in as well. I don't expect a sale though, I expect a loan to a low-mid table Bund club next year.
Maybe they plan to loan him out to Millwall. If he has problems with the Fire of physicality, then engulf him in the flames and see what toughness he possesses........ or he just has his legs broken and ends up with the NER reserves.
I can't see any truth to this rumor. it makes no sense on all fronts. No sense for Julian, no sense for Spurs, no sense for Bayern if they think he's he prospect they've led us to believe he is
yeh but that's dollars not pounds, meaning it would be about 3.6 million pounds (at $1.60= 1 pound) Forgot about Jozy's original transfer to Villareal. I intentionally left off the Dempsey and Bradley's transfer back to MLS because I think part of that value was based on what they could offer off the field in marketing. But they are far from the only transfer which had other factors driving up the price (pretty much any English International has a 20% premium added on there price for instance) I'll count them. So I will correct it if this went through he would be the 4th most expensive US player ever?
Would rather see this not happen, bigger chance of this move hurting his career than helping it. If he continues on the path he's on a move like this will still be there in a couple of years. Pochettino is a good manager for a young player to be under, but it's still a big risk.

Jozy was someone that Pellegrini had HUGE faith in. I am surprised he hasn't tried to drag him along after everything. I wonder how his relationship is with Jozy? He was the guy who scouted him adn personally picked him out and was his 'mentor'. His time at Villarreal was destroyed shortly after he arrived when Real Madrid took Pellegrini away from Villarreal...which was the beginning of the end for them after Riquelme left. Edit: Not that surprised--but maybe in the future we can see the two of them come together again?

I've got it, I've got it. This rumor was cooked up to make other countries' teams think that Julien Green isn't that good and to trick our opponents. They will brush off his threat and be unprepared to deal with the specialness that he will project from the US bench. Brilliant!
