Hi, just wanted to say thanks to the 3 or 4 guys that warned me off Hotel Piramide! I'm pleased to say that I managed to cancel the booking without charge and have managed to arrange a private room with a couple in Rio Vermalho for just a little bit more, via Airbnb. I'm really looking forward to arriving three weeks on Monday now! Are any of you guys still going to be around Salvador from the last 16, onwards? (1st July...) Cheers, Pete
The link below confirms bus lines from all the major hubs to Arena Fonte Nova, but I'm not so sure about bus service linking the airport with these hubs. Can any of our Salvador residents please let us know if there will be direct/express buses from the airport to Iguatemi on game days? Thanks http://www.correio24horas.com.br/de...mundo/?cHash=b2c96b5a31dc1562a7bcf598f7afb5a1
Fogo de Chao - I've eaten it in the US and it's good. But, there's one located 15 min from my house. I prefer to eat something that I can't get at home.
Except that I've had Fogo in America and Fogo in Brazil. Much better in Brazil. Go to Boi Preto then if you are looking for something different.
On match days you can catch S4 from the airport to the stadium. Special lines will leave every five to ten minutes and start operating 4 hours before kick-off, finishing two hours after the final whistle. The exception is line S10, which will be in operation daily between 05 June and 10 July, leaving at every twenty minutes at the following times: Link: (in English) http://www.copa2014.gov.br/en/sedes/salvador/mobilidade
Are taxis at the airport readily available? We land at 10am on match day (6/13). Do you think there will be long waits for taxis?
I'm arriving in Natal from SP at 1700 & game (Ghana v USA) starts at 1900. I'm hoping airport has lockers where I can leave my luggage so i can go directly to stadium. I fly to Salvador after the game.
They are, I don't think the waiting would be too long, no. Now that the question has been answered, time for the shameless plugging. My father and two uncles are taxi drivers, so I've been setting trips with them, so he can wait already knowing where you wanna go and when. If you happen to be interested, PM me.
Oh, the irony: in Recife, company organizing fan fest is trying to get a permit to stay open during the entire WC, not only during Brazil games. http://globoesporte.globo.com/pe/co...a-quanto-numero-de-dias-de-funcionamento.html Which leaves Salvador as the city without it.
Couple questions that will probably be directed towards @lucasc and @byucougars - Is the tap water safe to drink in hotels and at restaurants? I've been to Mexico and experienced the wrath of Montezuma's Revenge after drinking the tap water and would hope not to experience that again in Brazil. Also, does Brazil use the same electrical outlets as the rest of South America? Need to figure out how I'm going to charge phone/tablet/camera. Really appreciate all the help you guys have been.
It isn't, anywhere in Brazil. Actually, it's not like you're going to get sick if you do, it's just not recommended, because it's not treated for that. You can find filters and clean fountains easily, tho, I assure you there's going to be free drinkable water in your hotel. I don't know about the plugs, to be honest. These are the ones we use in Brazil: The second one is pretty much the American and a type common in Europe at the same time, plugs both. Also, electric voltage varies depending on the city. It's 110V in Salvador and most of the Southeast and South, but 220v in most of the Northeast. Frequency it's the same as in America, 60Hz, which is different from Europe (50Hz). By far most modern chargers work with all these voltages and frequencies, however.
Just to add to what Lucas said. Don't drink the water. Just don't. I eventually became accustomed to to most water after living there for a year, but it's not worth it to get insane diarrhea for two weeks just because you were too cheap to buy a dollar bottle of water.
Guys on the ground (@lucas and @byucougars), Can you please confirm that the FAN FEST will only show games in Salvador or Brazil games? If so, do you have any suggestions of where to go and watch the games? Also, anybody on this blog following Colombia? Want to get together to watch Colombia vs Greece on June 14?
According to recent reports, fan fest is going to happen in those days plus both semifinals and the final.
We're based out of Salvador for the cup and flying out to all the Colombia games except this one so yeah we'd be interested. We're staying in Barra so hopefully we find a good spot there.
You want to go from the Airport to Iguatemi on the Express bus? I don't think you can, these shuttles are specifically to go to and from the arena Fonte Nova. It looks like most questions on this thread are about taxis. But for those interested, it is not too difficult to buy the Salvador Card, the bus pass that gets you onto one of these shuttles. I bought mine today at the Salvador Norte Shopping center. The price is very reasonable, and the bus goes direct from the point of pickup to the stadium. Then returns after the game.
Thanks for the update Aquarela. I wanted to take the scenic bus route along the ocean, but due to time constraints and overall safety, I thought it's best to take a direct bus or shuttle from the airport to the Iguatemi on match day. I don't mind taking a taxi, but I'm traveling solo, so I thought the best best is a bus. Let me know if there are any updates.
