If this won't give a boost of confidence to Inui nothing will (short of going back to Japan).

I was thinking more along the lines that part of Hasebe's job will be considered as getting/keeping Inui in line.
And by proxy it is Inui's last chance with Frankfurt. I don't think this arrangement has much to do with them being "best buds" and more to do with bringing in somebody from same culture and language who can enact the kohai/senpai relationship.
The coach' comments suggests he's thinking that way, and at least part of his interest in Hasebe is related to leadership capabilities -- demonstrated by being captain of JNT.

Meier back in the starting 11, meaning Inui could be on the left/second striker.

I am a bit surprised that nobody made any meaningful comment on the performances of Hasebe.
I have to say that the performances of Hasebe for Frankfurt so far were brilliant. His passing, vision and technical skills were great. He was probably the best player of Frankfurt in the last games.
There is no doubt that he is the best DM that Japan has to offer and I hope that he continues to play for Japan
even after the Asian Cup. Compared to Hasebe players like Yamaguchi and Shibasaki can be considered nothing more than average.

Hasebe's role with Frankfurt is interesting this year. He has more freedom to go forward with Medojevic (interestingly, Hasebe left Wolfsburg because Medojevic was in favor in DM role.. and now, they are playing together) sitting deeper.

BS Japan is all about youth and when you're past 26, it is strongly advised to retire from the national team. No doubt Hasebe will captain the team at the Asian Cup.
