From a reason I understand him. Keylor Navas it's a top goalie and he clearly will be the starter, but what you do if he gets injured? Alvarado was a good option. I see Pemberton it's a experienced goalkeeper, but he's good? He played only in Costa Rica.
I always considered Alvarado to be your second best keeper after Navas. He's certainly more accomplished than the other two who are going, since he's the starting goalkeeper for a team in the Dutch Eredivisie. Edit: This kind of thing is also not good for future years. You always want to bring your best goalkeepers along, especially if they're younger like Alvarado. What if he ends up as a starter in some top team in England or Spain, but he refuses to play for the national team because of what happened here? Bridges can get burned like this, and they're hard to repair.
I don't think u can really go wrong with Pemberton, but with that said I think the reason why Esteban isn't going stems from a conflict involving him and the coach. Idk tho, just rumors I've heard. Tico bros might be able to confirm.
