Fair enough. Do note that the respondents specifically say it isn't about form. But again - the point was he isn't a locker room malcontent.
I am not the one trying to build the USMNT culture, but the guy who was hired to build it has a right to establish it his way, especially when you more than triple the play of the last guy. Did JK try and get back in with DFB after that? If he didn't, hypocrisy is not the word you are looking for. It is just different philosophies. If it were me Alan Iverson would have his arse fined and probably demanded to be traded. I would have been fine with that. Do you think he will have to answer if we get out of group? Would you rather be like the womens team who can't get shed of Abby and fires the coach for even thinking about it and then wonder why we are not as good as we used to be?
Davis & Zusi going to slash through defenses in Brazil. What the English call "mazy" runs. Relying on our arguably best player who isn't a creative mid to make things happen in final third. I struggle to see how we're going to create chances except from set pieces. Dempsey has a lot of weight to carry with Jozy ice cold right now. Mexico's defense is weak but even with injuries their attack is looking much better than ours.
We're not as good as we used to be in the women's game because now there are a couple more countries in the world that take it seriously.
You're surely not doing the Jurgenauts any favors. You've acknowledged that you just make stuff up. It's no excuse to say that others do. As I said above, I can only presume that you have some animus toward the guy from the accusations that you make and how you describe things. No idea what you're talking about re umbrage and insults. You must have cut and pasted that from some other rant you posted. All I said was that if it was so rational, it would have been explained. But it wasn't, and certainly none of the stuff your saying has been acknowledged by JK.
I think it is because we play the same old aging stars, specifically Abby being well past it and forcing us to play slow when speed is an area of strength. My bad, I know it is a different forum.
Not many organizational managers explain their decisions. JK would have been foolish to explain more than the reasons he gave. It is irrational to think you deserve an explanation.
Yes, definitely a different forum...., and nothing to do with Landon, who is still faster than most of the guys on the team and who plays smarter and faster than almost all of them. (But, yes, I understand you don't want to talk about his actual play on the field....).
So now we play up the "out of shape" Mexico friendly as the mumbo jumbo? Wtf it was a meaningless game. On the other hand, Julian Green kicked ass that game omg. Enough with the taking break as any basis of argument. Ya he took break came back and won these: Oh and broke MLS scoring record twice a few days ago.
What is there to discuss? He hasn't been on the field for the USMNT that much and when he has, other than the gold cup he hasn't really been the LD he once was. His last showing he was out of shape and he looked poor. Had he been fit as a fiddle and looked poor he probably still would have made the team. I guess we will never know and neither of us are likely to change positions. I will leave you guys to it. I am glad he is gone, but if he comes back by some weird miracle I will be just like I am with Tim chandler and hoping like hell they all hit the form of their lives. I am all for four more years unless we get smoked in every game and look really inept. I like the direction the program is moving and I like the way the football looks at times. I don't want to see us puss ut and sit in shell waiting for the inevitable. I think this team will have to press the game, or at least possess for a defensive break even if it is 80% sideways and backwards. I like the foundations that are being laid. I believe we need to get out of group or the uproar maybe too loud for Sunil.
He was only fringe because JK exhiled him. Also on the coaching thing, what character problems did Isaiah or Magic have? They were great champion players who had trouble coaching. There are plenty more examples,Ted Williams Wayne Gretzky etc... There is no reason to think that JK's expertise as a player makes him some sort of expert talent scout, google Joe Dumars and Darko on that front.
Indeed he did need a break and took it. (with thanks to MPNumber9 who posted the link in another thread.) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/germany/5171242.stm
Great players rarely make great coaches. They get by as players on talent and ability. Coaching is an entirely different skillset.
That is a poor argument. While he may not still be our "best player", he is probably in the top 4. Certainly he is our best wide midfielder. JK doesn't need to change anything to "fit" Landon. He already fits. He is good, he is not a locker room problem, he is versatile as a player, he deserves to be on the team. You have to look all over for a reason to leave Donovan off. Landon Donovan didn't "screw it up". A former great player for a coach, who has done essentially nothing as a coach to date, did what lousy coaches do. He made an emotional, impulsive decision that has no basis and cut a top player for personal reasons. To the detriment of the team. And that's your "best" argument. So your other arguments must be really bad.
At the time, the overwhelming majority of posters were against it bc they felt it would affect the national team. Then it did. And now those same posters are unhappy with the way it affected his standing.
Bruce too though, can talk out of his ass. He's not god--he's not a end all be all when it comes to soccer in this country. This is the same guy that said aruond 2006 that it's BS that there are still 'hidden' gems that aren't getting found. That alone tells me he doesn't know it all.... For as much as I respect the guy for waht he's done for my club and country, he can talk out of his ass too.
It's a completely different situation though. LD took a break from an on-going commitment to the LAG and made himself unavailable to the USMNT. JK (whether of his own volition or not) walked away. He didn't leave anybody hanging. There wasn't anything open-ended or talk of a possible return.
