If you had told me the only way we would get Green to commit early to the US would be if he took LD's spot at the WC, I would have said good luck with Germany
Therr is two men I eill defend til the death and that is pauleta for portugal and bob bradley Bob Bradley to me is a winner look at what he did to a medicore Eygpt nearly nearly a WC berth or at sognal I. Norway
All the guys I predicted are in. Brooks made it and not Goodson. Still shocked at no Donovan. Kinda bummed no Parkhurst, but Beasley goes. So we may indeed see Fabian - Besler - Cameron - Chandler
There's a lot that surprised me about that selection. But the "Klinsmann needs firing if we don't get out of the group" stuff seems pretty silly to me. We had a very small chance of getting out of the group no matter what team we took. Seriously -- no matter what team we took, if we made it out of our group this summer it'd be the biggest accomplishment we've ever had, far far surpassing 2002 even if we got knocked out immediately thereafter. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not saying JK made no mistake. I'm simply saying that using "getting out of the group" as a metric for his success or failure is dumb.
We don't have the talent in numbers like Portugal or Germany. But Bedoya and Chandler on the right is probably our best shot with CR7 and Reus. Bedoya has incredibly good work rate and is a very good conservative option defeinsively for that flank...the con is he offers more as a CAM offensively. Chandler is a solid Bundesliga RB and has played extremely well vs. the likes of Reus and Ribery before. I wish we had Robben and Lahm but for who we have on that flank and the rest of the back line it's the best we can do. Hopefully Jermaine Jones can get things turned around and Zusi can show well at the international level at LW and Jozy can show alright and Dempsey can show he still has it at the international level- those are the big question marks
I'm dying reading you guys losing your shit thinking you have a higher criteria to choose the 23 than the dude who has been watching them every second of practice for the last 2 weeks.
Well, that's close to as good as we're gonna get, so start licking your chops. It's gonna take an incredible amount of hard work and some luck for us to advance out of this group.
Klinsmann leaving Landon off was personal, kinda torn on this one. In principle I like it because Donovan quit on him when he gave him a huge chance at Bayern Munich and came into this camp not at his best. Donovan has never been a mentally strong player. This is who he is and despite all of that he would still show up and have an impact in Brazil. The positive to take from this is that Klinsmann has sent a good message to the team. Only time is going to tell if that outweighs the skill of one player. Yedlin and Davis are the biggest surprises for me. Had Donovan and Parkhurst going instead.
To be fair, that's sorta what it is to be a fan. If you can't second-guess, there isn't much to talk about.
Way to keep it classy. Daddy's not gonna be happy with sonny after this one. I don't get the hate for Landon. US Soccer fans owe him a huge "Thank You".
George Dohrmann @georgedohrmann 35s Not sure why people think Landon would have been good off bench. Lost a step, often takes a bit to get into games.
My metric isn't "get us out of the group." It's "make a good run." If we go 0 points and 1 goal or less, or are not competitively in all three games, then the calls for his head need to be heard. He stuck his neck out a good, long way with this roster, and it's not only with the Donovan decision.
I'm supposed to hate Landon, but his being cut taints Wondo's achievement. That goes for about half the squad BTW, who should be polishing Landon's shoes. JK's a disgrace.
I don't understand why you would call Landon to the 30. Especially if Julian Green got a spot guaranteed when no players are guaranteed a spot. Should have let him retire pre 30 player announcement.
I think a draw against Ghana, and non-humiliating losses to Germany and Portugal, would be a solid performance. We got a horrific draw, and that's just life.
