I'll say this, the roster release sure has brought some excitement back to BigSoccer. Lots of shit for us nerds to argue over!
I guess with Davis, Beasley, F. Johnson, and Green on the right; Zusi,, Chandler, Bedoya on the right, and Dempsey, Johannsonn, or Mix in the hole, Donovan was surplus to requirements. End of an era. Thank you LD.
I'm sure that Klinsmann promised Green a spot in order to convince him play for the USA. That's basically what his German coach hinted at and it's probably the reason why he switched. I don't think Green will make any impact in this World Cup, so you guys probably know in a couple of years - when Green is a full pro - if it was worth it.
Brad Davis is the only left footed player that is not a defender. That is probably why he is there. Donovan lost out to Green not Davis.
After a few minutes reflection I've decided that Klinsmann has mortgaged 2014 for the sake of 2018. I think this roster is his vote of no-confidence in our ability to get out of the group.
I think I'm more upset by Brooks over Goodson than Green over Donovan. Also, this roster is going to bring back the anti-German crowd in full force.
We all seem to be singling JK out on this, but at the end of the day I'm saying that the entire coaching staff would have had to agree on whether or not LD should be on the roster. Obviously they saw something we didn't. Really though, I'm extremely sad about this.
Truly gutted. I have been bracing myself for very real possibility of the US not making it out of the group -- but now they have to make it, or it will make this decision so much worse. I'm still a little stunned, even though I can craft a rationale for it like anyone. Also: Wondering how the squad feels about it; or maybe it's a relief; or maybe he didn't have the fire... or just how much the chemistry factor was a decision maker...
this has been obvious for a while, 2014 was a 2018 warm up. Edu was the biggest surprise considering Jones is terrible. He must have shown up in bad shape.
Having a left foot is nice, but I mean....come on. That's about all he can do. I just think it's gonna take more than Brad Davis' left foot to get us past any of our 3 group opponents, although I'd love to be proven wrong. Donovan brings (or has brought in the past) more to the table. I'd ya least like to have that option on the bench to see if he can capture lightening in a bottle on the big stage.
I'm not sure why you think the bolded part is true. That isn't how these things work. They may or may not have agreed on him being cut, but at the end of the day, only Jurgen's opinion matters on this.
We have the players to get out of the group. Squad rotation is going to hurt us, because we aint bringing Donovan off the bench.
Really? You think he would go against his entire coaching staff? Some of who have played with Donovan at the highest stage? Could it be the team doesn't feel like Donovan is a part of the group because of his hiatus? I'm honestly just speculating here
