I would like to see some sort of recognition by NYCFC for one of the most famous local nyc footballers ever, Joe Gaetjens. Joe was a NYer for a while, lived in Brooklyn, attended Columbia U, and played in the local semi-pro league where he was the top scorer. And while washing dishes in upper Manhattan, he was chosen to play for the USA in World Cup 1950. His goal for the USA defeated England 1-0 in the greatest upset in World Cup history. Joe was honored at a Cosmos game in 1972 and was enshrined into the US Soccer Hall of Fame in 1976. His native country Haiti has issued a postage stamp in his honor. http://espnfc.com/world-cup/story/_/id/4937012/ce/us/real-story-1950-world-cup-hero?cc=5901&ver=us http://www.angelfire.com/sc/englandA/Gaetjens.html
Please pass it on as I do not have any contact with them. Two points: 1. Joe worked and went to college in upper Manhattan which is pissing distance to where their proposed stadium will probably be. 2. His soccer success has an anti-England sentiment that would be a PR benefit to the team -- lessen the English affiliation. A NYCFC jersey with Gaetjens #9 would be nice.
