Was there an official announcement on this? I wonder who they will have coach it. Also, I think it will be a great place to have some of their better academy players play. Like the guys that they signed to the ULS Pro team this season. And this would be a great place to maybe put a couple of maybe recent college graduates that aren't ready for the Pro team.

I wonder who they will announce as the coach of the PDL team. I'm guessing that it will be someone in the current organization or one of the coaches at Century. Hoping it's a young up and coming coach. I see this team using more then a few players from the academy program. Also, I think this is a step in the direction of applying for the full academy approval from USSF.

Any guess who will be the coach? Any rumours or whispers? The player try-outs are scheduled for early March, 8 and 9. I hope the technical staff is already working on it.
The press release announcing the team:

    The annoucements re the try-outs:

To be noted that the USL PRO team will play a scrimmage against Pitt Panthers the 3rd March. The opportunity to watch in action some prospects who could join the PDL team.

I had checked out their web site and couldn't really find anything about the PDL team. That is other then the tryout info.

Here's a link to their schedule from the league site. The times are all TBD for the home games at HighMark.

They had a small unofficial training session last night with some prospects, but other than that it's been quiet. I would imagine the two college bound kids they signed late last year from the academy would be on the PDL team. Other than that who knows. A while ago I thought I heard who the coach was going to be, but I'm completely blanking on it now.

I watched 2 sessions of try-outs over the weekend. They've identified a hand full of players and are going to being another group back for a second look.

Thanks. Any idea of who could be the prospects?
Yourself, did you see interesting players?
By the way, still no news about the name of the PDL team coach?

All local schools represented, Pitt, Point Park, Robert Morris and Duquense. In my eyes the class of the try-outs were 3 teammates from Georgetown University.

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds continue their preseason at Highmark Stadium this Tuesday, March 18 against Pitt at 7:00 PM.
If I understand well the opportunity to see some Pitt's players (3?) who have been successfully selected for the PDL team, further to the first try-outs.
If one of you has the luck to attend the game, any feedback about the prospects will be great.

With the Riverhounds being the Houston Dynamo USL Pro affiliate are they aslo affilating themselves with PItt at the PDL college level with players who may have come through their academy system and are currently playing College soccer.
I did not see the Dynamo with its own U23 team in the PDL

I dont think there will be any official partnerships with the loocal colleges, but there are some connections. Gilstrap, who's one of the Riverhounds keepers, is an assistant coach for Pitt, and Kutney, the Riverhounds CEO, used to play for Duquesne. That said I'm sure all the local colleges sent players to try out.

Indeed Pitt is naturally close to the Hounds.
Also I believe that there are regulations in regards to the number of players from one given college in a PDL team. Might be five if this assumption is right. So I guess it means it is not possible to have 'official partnerships': but maybe strong bonds for organizing specific events (friendly matches,..).
On their web site, the Hounds announced that at the end of the selection process they will have viewed over 200 players for their selection. And this from numerous different colleges. Congratulations to the Pitt players if they went through it successfully!
I look forward to reading reports from this today's scrimmage.

Any news or rumours from yesterday's scrimmage against Pitt ? The Riverhounds won 2-0.
Still no announcement about the PDL team's coach name?

Sounds like they are spreading a large net for players. I don't live in the area in more. But are there any promising players in the area D2 and D3 teams? Don't forget that Des Moines probably best forward played at California Univ. PA.

First pictures of the PDL team.
On the picture we can see the three Pitt's players: Dan Lynd - GK (1st right-back row), Ryan Myers - MF (2nd right-front row), Romeo Charron - MF (2nd right-back row).
The picture is taken after the reception by the Riverhounds CEO and Director of Youth Development Jason Kutney on Wednesday.
They got their first ever training yesterday ! We wish them a great first year! :inlove:

Pittsburgh Riverhounds PDL roster is available.

They lost their first ever match yesterday against Chicago fire U23, 2-1. Early lead, then two goals before and after the break sealed the results. The stats show that Chicago dominated the second part of the game.

I understand some key players were missing (injured) and they had less than two weeks of practice under their belt. We can imagine the team has not yet gelled and is really discovering the PDL. Can we consider the result being not so bad?
They play today (we European will never understand how a team can play two matches within an only 24hours span, it is even forbidden by the rules of most FAs), against Michigan Bucks who had more time to rest than them. Thus we can foresee a second loss...

Oh nice surprise. The Pgh riverhounds get a draw 1-1 at Michigan Bucks.
Not bad knowing it is their second match within 24h.
One loss 2-1 and a draw on the road for a newly created team that had only two weeks practice and no preparation match before.:)

Friendly match Sunday against DC U17. I do not have the time. Some injured players back in action to strengthen the squad.
An opportunity to see how the team will be shaped for their first ever home match, the 4th June against the Michigan Bucks at 7 PM.

I like the varied mix on the roster. A mix of D1, D2, D3 , NAIA and even 1 HS player (I'm guessing a graduating senior). I hope they do well and provide an opportunity for area players to improve and grow to a higher level of play. If your a college player from the Pittsburgh area, between the PDL and NPSL teams that's a lot of opportunity.

    Self-quote..
They won 7-1. Logical against U17. Coaches took the opportunity to play the whole roster in two teams. And experiment some players' positions. Good for the preparation of this young team.

This evening at 7 pm, the team plays the Michigan Bucks for their third match and their first ever at the Highmark stadium.
A win would be an awesome result and would place well in this tough conference.
