Shuttleworth sucks. Soares sucks. Daigo sucks. Tierney sucks. Caldwell sucks. Gonscalves doesn't want to be on the field. Am I missing anyone?
Probably one of the worse halves of soccer I have ever seen the Revs play. But, I've only followed them since 1996...
Yeah, we needed to add a defensive mid. Rather than adding Kobayashi as a Nguyen backup, we should have used Caldwell as Nguyen's backup and signed an actual defensive midfielder. Caldwell is a great player, he's just not a lone DM.
I'd honestly switch Kobayashi and Caldwell given the options we have. Kobayashi doesn't seem to have the motor to be a great box to box guy, but he gets stuck in and can distribute. Have him be something of a deep lying playmaker who doesn't have to run all over.
I'm gonna break the trend, and say something positive! I like Mariner in the booth. The ref's seem fine. Here's hoping the lockout will help MLS find more quality officials. ...Yep, all I gotta say.
Wow, people. That was just 45 minutes of soccer. The season isn't over. I agree that the youngest players, and the guys who have been injured are having a tough game, but it's not the zombie apocalypse.
We've been told getting Paky would be "idiotic". Its a long season but not an auspicious beginning. Bengtson is on - this game is effectively over.
In terms of positivity, the Revs did show some periods of sustained offensive pressure, and had some good chances. Of course to say that, you have to point out that Houston's defense held solid, and didn't have any massive breakdowns to gift the Revs a free shot at goal inside the area, never mind 3 of them. It looks as though if the Revs are going to score, they'll have to earn it all on their own.
In his defense, Bengston is actually playing ok. I'll put my pitchfork down unless this game hits 6-0.
yup, gotta give credit where credit is due. The Revs had been carrying the play, and though chances are slim they'll come back, but if they have any prayer of getting back in, Shuttleworth has to make that big save, and he did. Would have been nice to see a better replay angle to see about the off side though.
