OT: Can't wait for US/Can semi-final hockey game tomorrow. I love soccer but hockey is my passion. Of course I am white so I guess it makes sense.

I think this is part of it but far from the only thing particularly in team sports. There is so much resources just can't buy. During the cold war one of the few sports the CCCP wasn't able to dominate even with the sports machine was soccer. They had some success but the return on investment was nothing like the individual sports.

I think it's about the culture of the country. So much of a players development even today is taking place outside of the National teams set up that the resources a country can bring to bear is minor compared to the sporting culture the player comes up in.

I've twice seen this reference about Persia going to Europe like Turkey or some such, and haven't the foggiest idea what it means. I can probably try to infer something about it, but I'd probably end up getting it wrong, and the real story is probably way funnier than anything I can come up with.

The grammatical error is obligatory. It used to be a running joke on BigSoccer, but I think it started all the way back in 2002 or 2003. IIRC, there was some flame war in World Rivalries that may or may not have involved one of Hamatachi's various incarnations.

That's some relatively subtile spambot, I must admit.

I've got the perfect team for MerenguePie to support, if he ever comes back here. Cracovia in Poland just got back to the top division. They've been playing some really cavalier football this season. All they do is attack. Sure, they're nothing more than an average team, but they attack! My boys smacked them down 3-1 I'm the derby this past weekend, but I'm sure their fans can rest assured that noticed tactician MerenguePie would approve of the game plan.

MerenguePie appears to have found the USA national team forums and is currently giving his wisdom there.

Honestly Liverpool would currently be his team. Against Swansea we were playing essentially 2 strikers, 3 attacking mids and 3 wing backs (and Gerrard playing D mid going "little help") freakin mental, but then he would be in the Liverpool boards, so like the idea of pushing the Polish team. Come to think of it isn't that the league white star allegedly followed?
