Finally, there are signs of life on the WPSL website! =-) Two articles out in the past several days, one simply talking about leadership (naming the national and regional commissioners) while the other highlighting a few new teams in the Midwest; sounds like the Midwest conference will be split back into two divisions this year. Assuming the teams currently listed remain that way, it looks like WPSL will be 56 teams this year - down from 71... Considering how fluid WPSL is, I hope some other teams pop up in the next month or two... Confirmed out: -Gulf Coast Texans (Southeast) Apparently out: -Utah Starzz (Big Sky North) -St. George Utd. (Big Sky North) -Texas FC (Big Sky South) -Utd. FC Binghampton (NE Mid-Atlantic) -New Jersey Blaze (NE Tri-State) -Lancaster Inferno (NE S. Atlantic) -Philadelphia Fever (NE S. Atlantic) -Tidewater Sharks (NE S. Atlantic) -Quad City Eagles (Midwest) -Indiana United (Midwest) -Fort Wayne FC (Midwest) -Emerald City FC (Northwest WA) -Spokane Shine (Northwest WA) -Bend Timbers (Northwest OR) -one of the two California Storm teams (Pac. North) -Central California HEAT (Pac. North) -Ajax America Women (Pac. South) Apparently new: -Minnesota TwinStars Confirmed new: -Jersey Blues FC* -Columbus Eagles FC* -FC Indiana* -Motor City FC^ -Cincinnati Lady Saints*^ *existing team new/returning to WPSL ^mentioned in the Midwest article, but not yet on the WPSL teams page If someone can find better information, do so; I'm "off" by one team, here....
Yeah... I'm really kinda shocked about Ajax since they're one of the most storied WoSo clubs out there!
EPIC. ^.^ Anyway, so that I can actually contribute something with this post: it seems the the Breakers College Academy wasn't officially their reserves team, as they're debuting an officials reserves team in WPSL this year. So now we're up to 59 teams. (Motor City and Cincinnati were 57 & 58.)
So, I completely missed these: two articles introducing 19 new teams into WPSL this year, several of which already mentioned in this thread. Some other things for thought that I got from the "standings" page: -Midwest conference is not yet shown as two separate divisions. Why? -The Big Sky conference is no longer in two divisions, with those that used to be in Big Sky North now either in Pacific North (RSL Women) or Pacific South (Tuscon & Phoenix) -Northwest is back into one division, which makes sense after losing 3/8 teams and getting no replacements -Tijuana? 75 teams currently on the standings page, which does not include the 2 VA teams in that second article, apparently 77 total.
looks to me like Empire United has affiliated with the Revs and has moved from Syrasuse to a Buffalo, NY venue... http://www.wpsl.info/team/index.php?tid=171
[quote="SiberianThunderT, post: 29580917, member: 133631 ^mentioned in the Midwest article, but not yet on the WPSL teams page [/quote] link to another Midwest article is provided... http://twinstarsfc.minnesotatwinstars.com/news_article/show/322160?referrer_id=626334
So, the "Tijuana BC" team that had been on the standings page when I last posted is already gone... At the same time, a new "Fuerza FC" team has appeared in the Northwest.
The two Virginia teams won't be joining until next year. And I've gotten confirmation that the Chesapeake Charge will be hosting the WPSL Final Four this year. My contact says the players aren't very happy about it because they'd rather travel someplace else.
According to the Mutiny's Twitter, their 2014 schedule should've been out today. (Maybe still coming? Already passing out of normal business hours here in the east.) I assume that means the schedules for all East conference teams should be coming shortly as well; not ETA yet for the other conferences, unless WPSL is taking more of a leading role and doing them all at once.
The ASA Chesapeake Charge have published their schedule: http://www.chesapeakecharge.com/Schedule/Match_Schedule/index_E.html
They have the Elite logo up! Also: why no game against the Inferno, but there IS a game against Jersey?
I know the webmaster and am going to give her a hard time about that. I was wondering about the schedule as well, particularly considering that game is being played in far north Jersey, almost to New York. There are definitely closer teams.
Pac-South and New England now have full schedules up on the WPSL main site. Both are full double-round-robins within their divisions. Not sure why it appears the Mid-Atlantic is opting not to do so, unless there really is something with the Elite going on this year.
Des Moines Menace just had tryouts this past wend. About 30 players showed up. Team will be exciting to watch.
Just checked the WPSL site again, and noticed the the Midwest conference has now officially been split into two divisions of six teams each - including the Chicago Red Stars Reserves! Both divisions also have their schedules up on the schedule page. The Great Lakes division starts a full week earlier that either of the two previously announced divisions, while the Central division until a week later than the previous two. Also, in addition to the fact that three WPSL teams will feature in the national amateur championships as reported in other threads, I also noticed that this year's national women's championships will be held in late June down in Florida. Considering that last year's Open championship in KCMO only had four teams apply, all from within the Midwest, I hope this year's Open championship has a bit better turnout.
At the "OAK BROOK POLO FIELDS" ? ? ? ? Won't the horses run over all of the players? (Must be a really big deal, what with the all-capitals.) By the way, slight mis-spelling of Motor City's home field. It is "Livonia Churchill" ... not "Livionia (extra "i") Chu*chill (missing "r")" And I hope that June 27 game isn't really at "12:00 AM" ... Midnight Madness!!!!
Nothing is "official" in the Midwest with the WPSL. Past years have had the conference as a single large table, then split into two divisions, then re-merged, only to have no Midwest teams make the playoffs, and that year where one team got labled as the "Forfeits" when the team folded. Maybe this is still a bit of bad blood when the Midwest teams had their own Women's League Soccer... ya' know, the league that started as "WMLS" until some men's division complained, and whose web site still claims is changing to a winter indoor-ish league
Well, okay; at the moment, it's website-official, then. ^.^ I kinda doubt it... Only two WPSL teams ended up participating in WLS, and they still also played in WPSL seasons even while WLS was also going on.
Schedules for the Northwest conference are online! The Houston Aces also have their schedule set, though the Big Sky conference schedule isn't on the WPSL site yet.
Looks like there isn't going to be an Inferno this year. They're still listed among the teams and in the standings, but they're not in the schedule.
Not exactly 2014, but: Another DC-area team! We also had a fairly high-profile preseason friendly: FCI 1-0 Aces Finally, it looks like the fact that the Tri-State and S. Atlantic regions are short-changed is being supplemented by the fact that there will be a round of inter-divisional games so that all ten teams get ten games each (eight against their four divisional opponents and one each against two opponents from the other division); all of these inter-divisional games are listed as being under the "Tri-State" schedule on the website.
The result of one of the two matches this past weekend hadn't made it to the WPSL site yet, so I went searching. FCI beat Columbus 5-0, but what kinda surprised me is that FCI has a 13-year-old on their roster. Um, what.
