Can't believe I'm typing these words but is it over for Freddy? I've searched for rumors but my google-fu has failed me because I can't find even a scrap of info regarding Adu. No rumors, speculation, boneheaded decisions, nothing! I guess it was fun while it lasted, I really thought he had the goods.
Not yet. He's apparently training in Arizona while his representation searches for some new opportunities. http://www.goal.com/en-sg/news/3875...07/4527531/freddy-adu-in-search-of-a-new-club From a USMNT point of view I never say "this guy's USMNT career is over" until he retires. We used Alan Gordon in a World Cup Qualifier for Christ's sake.
Definitely not over yet. I'd say he will latch on with a club before the end of February, where it will go from there who knows...there are certainly plenty of MLS teams that could use his ingenuity and talent, but I don't know what his price tag would be, or how many bridges he has burned.
I'd say he goes and finds whatever magic spring water in Mexico that Damarcus Beasley used to rejuventate his career. If Freddy Adu starts for the U.S. at left back in 2018 I am blaming Big Soccer.
Some players don't even get consistent playing time in the first division until around that age and they still shine once they get a decent chance to play. Miguel Angel Herrera (Pachuca) is a recent example.
you know, I'm actually a pretty big Adu fan and want nothing but the best for him, I was just shocked I couldn't find any info. . .yeah the Adu ride never ends but will it even have an interesting twist? It's been downhill for 3-4 years, time for some positive momentum for this kid. ( erm, ADUlt?)
Thought the news was he was training in Cali while his agent looked for a new club. If he as he had once stated as an ambition wants to return to UEFA then perhaps Scandinavia or Turkey would be good landing spots.
My favorite adu story http://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php...ic_id=87978&mesg_id=87978&listing_type=search
Adu is going to have to take a paycut....if he wants to play anywhere. The guy has been relying on soaking up money from his contracts and not playing for a good portion of his career. He's had multiple good contracts. Time to stop looking for money, at least for a couple of season. Someone will take a risk if the price is right.
Everyone also thought EJ was down and out after leaving Greece a few years ago. But he came back. Everyone thought Beckerman was out of the picture a few years ago, but he stuck around. Everyone thought Orozco was out of the picture, but then he came back. America loves second acts.
"Freddy adu" is on my google news alerts. I personally see him going to 2nd division Glasgow rangers and being crippled by those Scottish thugs....
At the rate Freddy is going, I feel as if I won't ever see him playing in a top league again, let alone a World Cup....
