If they keep making the moves like Bradley and Defoe...it's not a bad thing AND definitely "better than nothing."
I think its official now, this should work out great for Wilmington. TFC are always underachievers but they have some gems on the roster. Plus I am sure they will be better this year.
Potential TFC players going on loan Manny Aparicio, 18. AM/SS -Attacking midfielder who has played second striker in TFC youth system. Quick, agile and can make a pass. On a bit of small side, so needs to bulk up physically, but IIRC he has played against adult opposition in CSL. Part of Canada U17 team. Kyle Bekker, 23. CM -Former Superdraft 1st rd pick. Bekker has good range of passing, free kick and corner ability. He has problems making decisions under pressure. Not a good dribbler. Has improved since getting some games for Canadian MNT and TFC. What he needs is some regular first team mins to get confidence. Probably best played as a deep lying playmaker. 9 caps for Canada. Can also play LM as a wide midfielder. Jordan Hamilton, 18. ST -Just signed few weeks ago from TFC academy. This kid is perhaps the best prospect out of TFC youth program in recent years. Part of Canada U17 program. Big striker who is not afraid to mix it up, good in the air, but kind of plays like a slasher instead of target man forward. Quillan Roberts, 19. GK -Good shot stopper with agility. Has been part of TFC first team for past 2 years but no appearances so far. Part of Canada U17 team, where he scored a goal during U17 WC. Emery Welshman, 22, ST -Former Superdraft 1st rd pick. Has pace to burn and does make runs in the channel. Finishing and first touch needs work. This can change pending on whether more academy players get signed as HG players, and whether Hagglund and Lovitz gets signed, but needs seasoning at USL level.
The Hammerheads are supposed to be making a big announcement tomorrow at 1:00 and as they haven't revealed this yet, this may be the time. Would love to have TFC come through for a friendly.
http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2014/01/toronto-fc-partners-wilmington 1 yr deal. Probably means TFC will get own USL club for 2015
TFC has stated they are looking into setting up own USL club. There was a plan to move Toronto Lynx to Hamilton as USL club but Hamilton city kiboshed it.
Oh I know and I think they'll do their own club at some point. I'm just saying I wouldn't take the 1 year deal as proof that they'll definitely have their own team in 2015.
TFC, Seattle, Dallas, RSL & LA have all publicly or privately announced their intention to own or co-own/operate their own USL team.
Ill see if I can find it, I could be wrong but I vaguely remember them talking about it the same time Seattle had their reserve match in Tocoma
Couldn't find a link ... thought I saw it on Big Apple Soccer and it could have been just fan speculation and not from the team. Sorry!
No problem, wasn't trying to put you or anyone else on the spot. We've heard from good sources that the teams I listed want their own USL team. I think all of those will work out. Although it's very possible, I hadn't read anywhere that Portland or NYRB were doing it too.
There was an article about the NYRB academy a month or so that casually slipped in a mention that they were looking to field a USL team in 2015. I can't find it at the moment but it was a quote from someone in the academy offices.
I think our affiliation with Toronto is fantastic news. I would have been happy to partner with any MLS club and looking forward to supporting Toronto....well that is for at least a year !
Theoretically, Chicago, Dallas and NYCFC are still looking. Any connections from those squads to Hammerheads?
That's been the rumor for at least the past month. The fact that the Star-News has hinted it might come to pass means I can possibly retire my mantra "Anyone...Anyone...ANYONE BUT THE FIRE."
