I'm really just guessing...but I guess it's possible http://www.nationalpremiersoccerleague.com/teams/64214691/65997590-64214778/TEAM.html
Bayamon FC, formed in 1999 are a team at played in the 2013 Liga Nacional de Futbol de Puerto Rico, where they have been since 2012, and previous to that the Puerto Rico Soccer League. They are independent to the Islanders (infact, if anything, they are the Islanders biggest rival in Puerto Rico). In 2013, they finished the regular season in first place, and runners up in the play-off series, where they played at Bayamon Soccer Complex. They have also represented Puerto Rico in the CFU Club Championship, finishing 4th in 2010 [lost out to qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League by a point]; first group stage in 2012 and last in their group in 2013. So either Bayamon FC are leaving the PRSL for the NPSL or will place an academy/reserve/u-23/whatever team in the NPSL and continue in the PRSL
So now the link just directs to a generic team page (no mention of Bayamon FC) Also they have been removed from the conference line ups
sorry Kenn...sometimes I'm actually proven correct. http://parlorcityfootball.com/2014/01/21/npsl-adds-club-in-puerto-rico/
I'm just thrilled you didn't add it to a thread that had been dead for nine months and which was only tangentially related to the topic.
Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the Ramon Loubriel stadium is a 22 K seater, pretty big for NPSL soccer IMHO
So according to this article, Puerto Rico FC the new name for Bayamon FC, who played LNFPR for the last few seasons. Bayamon FC have qualified for the 2014 CFU Club Championship (the top 3 of which will play in the 2014-2015 CONCACAF Champions League). They have been drawn in the easiest first round group. Should they win the group, they will only have to win 1 more match to qualify. NPSL in the CONCACAF Champions Leauge.... ok....
A brief, quick history. The PR Islanders had a good relationship with Bayamon FC. The Islanders did not compete with them regarding camps and youth soccer teams. Personally, as an bystander, I felt BRC had the second best pro team on the island. The Islanders played at a higher level and their CFU performances (two cup championships) confirm that. This is a chance for Bayamon FC to shine on a bigger stage, but I think CFU success is not coming soon.
Awwwwwwwwwww. Yet another NPSL expansion team that can't answer the bell My browser translates it as: "The team will not be able to play in the NPSL because the local Federation did not send American Federation a tick for the club to participate in the league. " Google translates it as: "The team will not be able to play in the NPSL because no local Federation American Federation sent a go-ahead for the club to participate in the league." Apparently "visto bueno" means "approval, okay, blessing, endorsement." So the Puerto Rico federation (which would have to sign off - as would, presumably, CONCACAF and US Soccer) apparently didn't sign off on this particular cross-federation experiment. For one reason or another.
a bit more information... http://parlorcityfootball.com/2014/...event-puerto-rico-bfc-from-competing-in-npsl/
Ahhhhhh, good find. I stand corrected. They didn't sign off on it because they never sent in the paperwork. And if you've ever dealt with teams from other countries where their...let's say...attention to detail...is not as robust as it is elsewhere, you can totally see that happening.
This franchise really lacks fan support and investment support. Tough sell in the caribbean to promote soccer as baseball has been king here for decades. I can't see PR having a top tier (NASL, MLS) franchise in the next 10-15 years
But you see, when the gov't was helping them out they drew well and were great on the field. So it is possible to run a good side down there, maybe even profitable but not any time soon.
They APPEARED to draw well, but their crowds dropped every year even WITH the supposed government assistance. And that - which was said to have gone away right at the end - was, surely, a big cover story or convenient excuse. And if you need a government bailout, no, I'm sorry, that ain't running a club well.
