The excitement is gone. The pre season was sort of like a honeymoon phase were the bride looked fantastic every morning and cooked delicious breakfast, and suddenly, since the season started, she's let herself go and only watches TV.
With Mourinho we knew what we were getting and the development went in a steady curve leading up to the Copa del Rey final, in which Mourinho celebrated the perfection of his counter attacking style against Barcelona.

I just don't see any sort of hint of what Ancelotti wants from this team. We generally look clueless, as if the players play for the first time ever together.

He's not "out", but as i said before the game, the game starts with a defeat.
Tomorrow's newspapers with probably mock his comments from this season, and make ironic statements about the way he plays and the substitution he makes. Once this opinion has spread into the public, that's when the defeats will put him under massive pressure.

It's only the beginning of the season, so many people exaggerate losses.

I understand what you're saying, but this feels like it's been a long time coming after just barely getting the positive results out of teams that the team should have beat relatively easy. It was the first real test, and the team failed miserably.

He is not thinking like a striker. He was so far behind the play in one move, I thought it was Khedira running with the ball from midfield. He's just not a good box player, and we need him to hold the ball high up the pitch and give the two centrebacks something to think about in games like this, where the Atletico game plan was to contain and counter.

Benzema is good at a lot of things, but he just didn't do anything useful. And when you don't do anything useful, and look like you're not working, you're going to be rightly criticised. Even Fat Ronaldo got that when he was here (rightly, I'm sure I stuck the boot in myself on occasions).

If Carlo is not willing to start with Morata, than we should try this formation

    Carvajal--Ramos--Varane---Marcelo
    -------------Illaramendi---------------
    -------Modrić-----------Casemiro-----
    ----------------Isco-----------------
    ---------Bale----------Ronaldo------

I could be a total fiasco, but it can't be any worse than now.

They don't need to "show it", you could see it during the match, it was during a corner kick.

Mourinho's first year was by no means a "steady curve". There were plenty of games where we were absolute horse shit, and we only won because of a moment of brilliance by Ronaldo.

I agree there's a lack of direction with the current team, but this isn't the coach's first time around the block, nor is it his first time at a club with so much pressure. There were games that we looked good, that we had the idea of what he was trying to implement, we've just lost the plot the past couple of games. I'm more than willing to give him time to make adjustments necessary.

That's how every game has been so far this season, besides the game in Turkey. It was also mostly Isco saving the bacon.

He should have dropped deeper more often today, because the way Atleti defended there was no room upfront. But he did chase the ball and pressure defenders, so I wouldn't say he didn't work hard. Today's defeat has nothing to do with him, but with how good Atleti were and how bad as a team we played.

Um...yes, yes they are...This team made too many important changes. A manager is a major change. Bringing on Illara/Casemiro/Isco are major changes. Higuain gone is a major change. That said, these were all positive in the long run. Then, instead of focusing on defense, Perez and co gut the heart of this team in Ozil and bring in Bale. Forget about who is better --it's a massive change to this team. Ozil was the orchestrator in attack.

For all we know, this may turn positive in the long run and this team may be better. But for now it is obvious that they are not playing cohesively as a team, and the major reason to that are the changes involved, the largest of them all being Ozil for Bale.

benzema knows that he is the only big name striker in this team and he is bound to play every match. puts in zero effort. we should bench his sorry ass for morata. he needs a kick up his backside

Benzema should have dropped deep, really deep into the comfortable seats of the bench.

Would you guys please stop claiming Ozil's transfer as a major contributor to sh*t we're in? He was here last season, how did that end? No trophies whatsoever. Ok, this is a stupid point, but a team like Real Madrid should not depend on one player. We sold Higuain and Ozil, we got Bale and Isco. For me, that's a step up individuals wise.

The problem is cohession between players. When we attack heavy defending teams, we hav 7 f*cking players running around the edge of their box. 7. Seven. Both wingers, both right and the left back, f*cking Benzema and Isco, and one of the CMFs. The remaining 3? CBs near the center and the second CMF slightly in front of them.
What the f*ck can we achieve that way?! You have 11 defenders and 7 attackers in a 700m^2 stripe. Seeing that Santiago Bernabeu is alnost 8 f*cking thousand square meters, that's a pretty small area with 18 players on it. And what happens? They all bump into each other, or the ball ends up in Benz's feet.
We don't get chances for long shots, we can't push the ball through the defence cause there's 36 god damn feet blocking its path.

Once we loose the ball, we take years to reorganise the defence from the chaos we made in offense. We suck, we suck in using the space. You know why we're a good counter attacking team? Cause we have enough f*cking space! Why in the world can't we stretch their defence towards our half, make more room for wingers to cut in, make more room for connecting a few passes that don't go horizontally with the goal or to the wings. Why have Ronaldo and Bale when all they're gonna do is cross the ball to that useless piece of timber we call Karim Benzema, or try to dribble past 5 defenders?!

I still vote for the false 9 with Isco, Bale and Ronaldo as wingers, and 3 CMF+DMF positions. We have many players in those positions anyway.

If it's likely to be a total fiasco, it's likely that Carlo has already got it high on his agenda :D

On a serious note, I think what we missed today was Xabi Alonso. I saw the second half, and it looked like Atleti played deep and closed down the spaces aggressively, double or triple-marked Ronaldo, waited for the change in possession and look to get it quickly to Costa and build from there. They defended well, but against sides which play that way you need to switch the play quickly.

When we had the ball with Ronaldo and his shadows on the left, it would take three or four passes to get it to the other side of the pitch, by which time Atleti had shuffled their team across. Wth Xabi, that would be one pass.

Alonso is set to start running next week if all goes well. I think we miss him more than anyone, if we could get him back before the end of the year that would be great imo.
