Yeah it was seemed 90-10 in the stadium..but the Mexicans in the parking lot seemed to be numerous and loud.
well, i suppose they could have detained/arrested me had i opted to be an obstinate cock, as i was most assuredly trespassing. and i'm not sure how much of a deterrant they would have been - presumably their objective - had they NOT taken the information of violators. my point was simply that the cops i dealt with were, whilst doing their job, quite decent about it. your implication appears to be that the only way they'd've been cool would be to simply not do their job.
Disagree. I noticed right away that we had a sizeable edge from the parking lot. From our sight-line we could only spot 1 mexican tent is close vicinity to our chairs with one goober pumping a horn. I also noticed they were creating far less trouble this time, realizing they were vastly outnumbered everywhere. When they numbers are more even, there are more of them looking to brawl.
I must have parked in the Mexican section then because there were a good 30-40 of them in the 4 - 5 parking rows around us.
The improvement in ratio was pretty apparent from the moment I arrived at the lots. In 05, Mexicans EASILY outnumbered USA supporters in the parking lot, though most didn't have tickets. This time no such crowd arrived.
Maybe that was the group that seemingly had half of section 202 to themselves, and they all came in together.. I thought the parking lot was pretty bare of Mexicans from where we were.
there was one group in our parking area having one hell of a party - several tents linked up with two bands, kegs, food and lots of dancing. they let us come and hang out with them and were extremely nice folks.
Asserting one's rights does not make one an "obstinate cock," even as those rights diminish. Undercover beer purchases and arrests at a tailgate? Intimidating tactics to prevent using a commonly used shortcut? Misguided police priorities to be sure.
Man, I say it was .... 80-20 at best.... the scatterness made it seem like 90-10. It was terrible. I'm going to have to let every one know to join USSSSSSSSSSSSSS...whaterver their name is to get tix. I guess we'll also have to infiltrate AO and whoever else get access to tickets.
Or fans of the Mexico team could help each other out with tickets rather than scalping their extras (and boasting about it on the US fan travel Big Soccer forum.)
I sold them to MEX fans if you care to know (happened by chance) Plus, I did the American thing (capitalism) and sold to highest bidder, instead of doing the other American thing (racism) and not providing a service to someone because of their nationality, race, or creed, which seems like a bigger asshole thing to do. Did you see how many MEX was were in the AO section?
I feel a little bad now for not mentioning it before. In the last couple of years police have cracked down pretty heavy on people cutting through other areas and the train tracks especially getting to the stadium. It used to be common to see a hundred people walking through the woods and down the tracks but it's not nearly as common. They started ticketing for it either last year or the year before. As for the beer tent fiasco, sucks a lot. I know the guys running it had good intentions, and while they definitely shouldn't have sold to anyone, for the CPD to come down so hard on them for what was obviously a mistake is pretty low.
I did sell one ticket to a Mexican fan although his wife was a USA fan so I figured it balanced out. For the 09 game a Mexican family sold my friend and I tickets for well below face, we sat in a section that was filled elbow to elbow with Mexicans and yelled back and forth at them the entire match. It was a blast, everyone had a good time and was a good sport about it. I loved to see it as a 90/10 pro US crowd this year, but there was a point where I was wondering whether having a little bit bigger "enemy" in the stands would have made the crowd a little more rowdy. In a way it almost seemed like the Mex crowd mirrored the team and they way they've been this year. Just didn't show up with the same fire and response we've seen in the past to games like this.
I sold my extra ticket to a nice man from Orange County. He happen to be Hispanic, but was wearing the home teams jersey... Now what does that make me???? Get off of your high horse and just understand fans are willing to sell to anyone wearing their teams colors.
Defend your scalping however you want. Racism plays no role in buying or providing tickets for fellow supporters. You seem to have the asshole part well covered, however.
Defend scalping? There is nothing to defend about it. I have a commodity that people want. Turns out that that commodity has appreciated in value since I acquired it. And some people are willing to pay the market price for that commodity. Weird thing is I sell my Cubs and Bears tickets to whoever wants to buy them, I never ask which team they support. I have sold tix to Sox fans for the City Series and not given it any thought. I'm sure I have sold to Cards fans. Not sure if I have sold to Packers fans....I haven't don't recall asking. Most people that I talk I have talked to (vast majority not US soccer fans, so their opinion might be biased [not MEX fans either]) think that it is an asshole think to refuse to sell tix to a MEX fan if you are a US fan just because he is a MEX fan. But I guess we'll have to disagree.
Your point here is weak because it has no real relationship to this USA vs Mexico game. Once the Bears and Cubs lose home field advantage against The Cardinals or the Packers every year, and fans from your team are wanting to keep home field advantage. Lets see how you react. You are a fan of Mexico and therefore you really don't have to worry about it (getting out numbered at home), so you can't relate at all to the mindset of a USA Soccer fan.
This is complete apples and oranges. The USSF holds the game in Columbus FOR THE SOLE REASON of getting the best home crowd imaginable. It's up to us (not you, obviously) to support the goal of the federation ahead of our own pockets in order to insure that. A Cubs/Sox or Bears/Packers game isn't a legit comparison whatsoever.
I posted this elsewhere, but the ratio was more like 95% + for the US, and less than 5% Mexican fans... they were really absent at Cbus... it was great.
I'm not speaking for anyone else here of course, but I don't harbor any ill will towards people just because they're from the other team or country, or because they're of a certain race. What I do know is that I've experienced a crowd at a home stadium filled with fans from the other team and it's not generally much fun for the home team. If I thought there was any chance that this could be a pro-Mexican crowd I may have considered trying to find only USA fans to sell to. I didn't expect that to be a problem so I didn't care in this case. But it is a little off, I think, for you to make an accusation of racism having to do with it when someone doesn't sell to both sides. Of course the racism probably exists (and there is no doubt a lot of it that comes from Americans towards Mexicans in our country), but I don't think it's unusual to want your tickets to go to the home crowd and I'm not going to hold it against anyone if that's what they do.
Ohh yeah, no, I agree with what the USSF did. They did a great job. I'm not even saying that that is unfair. I think it was totally fair. Well played USSF. What I'm saying is that, as and individual, discriminating against a purchaser based on his team preference is being more of an asshole than selling said ticket to highest bidder. That is my point.
Well, I'm just saying is kinda screwed up that when I walk up to a guy, he refuses to sell tickets to me...but if I send my caucasian wife, she gets the tix no questions asked. That sort of strikes me as unfair, what the USSF did, totally fair and fine. But anyways ... /TOPIC, I just had replied to some guy about the fan composition.
You keep dodging the point, put a Green jersey on your wife no sale, put a Waldo on you, sale. Don't like it, to bad, call it racist and you belittle the instances where it occurs and the people it has happened too, even if that includes yourself.
