1) Bad TV angle. If we insist on having our most important international home game at a small stadium then build some special temporary TV camera platforms at a decent height. Yes it will mean a loss of seats, but if that is a concern why have the game at a 25,000 seat stadium? 2) Terrible anthem. Do'h. Let the crowd sing it at their speed and tempo. 3) Quiet. I saw lots of evidence of great support. I heard US players praise it. But I didn't hear it during the game. Accoustically (no roof) Crew stadium will never reverberate.
We are going to complain about a venue that is our fortress vs our rival????? Some people just lack perspective, that's all. Dos a Cero in Columbus ingrained into the Mexican psyche is worth complaining about?
Ladies and gentlemen, our FOURTH dos a cero in a row. And the complaints coming from a guy who peed his pants in fear after the Costa Rica result, and didn't think we were going to qualify. I vote to close this thread. There is NOTHING to complain about here.
I'd say #2 is a valid complaint. Especially with regards to US Soccer teams, where you know the crowd is going to sing along. But of course, the complaint isn't localized to Columbus.
Was at the game, and the top 3 rows of one of the sides was indeed turned into a temporary TV platform with at least 4 cameras on it. As far as the sound of the crowd, maybe Espn turned down the crowd mic to keep it pg rated?
As per our convo in the other thread. He is one of the guys who tjinks Brek an be CL at years end and was telling a Stoke fan that. A little better than the clown saying he would be worth 20 million. Just putting it into even more perspective for you.
Bingo. ESPN are owned by Disney, after all. It's also why the crowds always seem louder on Spanish language broadcasts of US games. Wishful thinking is one thing, but complaining about a stadium after getting the result we needed, but only after writing us completely off, is the height of uncool. I'm a Yank until I die.
I gotta agree with you here. Even Google didn't know who that girl was, and that's difficult nowadays. She was bad as a soloist, and she definitely lost her way when the crowd wasn't singing the same thing she was. In her defense, that is one of the hardest songs to solo, and ridiculous to do a capella. It's a shame that has be come the norm at sporting events, because 99% of people, even good professional vocalists, butcher that song without accompaniment.
I'm giving the OP'er the benefit of the doubt that he is not suggesting that the game be moved, but that we make a few enhancements next time to maximize the experience for all. On that subject, maybe it was my TV, but the field seemed to be under lit compared to what I am used to seeing? Did anyone else sense this? I noticed it in the beginning of the game and wondered if Fabian's really poor touches (unusually poor for him) and DMB's first almost autogolazo may have been related? For those that were at the game was there any sense of this? Otherwise, Columbus, I luvs ya. Dos a cero. 4 times in a row. You CAN'T change what ain't broke. WE ARE GOING TO BRASIL, WE ARE GOING TO BRASIL, WE BEAT MEXICO, AGAIN, DOS A CERO< SO WE ARE GOING TO BRASIL.
I know the girl who sang the National Anthem (not really well) but she has sung it at a bunch of Crew games. I was surprised that she got it. I do know that she was sick on Friday and she almost backed out because her voice was gone. End of the day it was not a great performance.
Atmosphere at the stadium was fantastic and loud. Only complaint - we don't need guys leading cheers over loudspeakers...no one I talked to after game thought that was a good idea - sucked in fact and detracted from the experience. Every game should be in Columbus - they know how to bring it.
Easy there sailor. We don't want to be trolling Seattle. We'll never hear the end of their awesomeness.
I'll buy the megaphone thing, I thought that was a little bit much. Very much a European and South American thing that you hear a lot, but I didn't think it worked well for us. Eh, try things, see if they work, no harm done.
Could hear the crowd on TV pretty well myself. Maybe you muted your TV? Camera angles seemed perfect - no complaints. Columbus did far better than we did in Sandy, UT. Granted, it's closer to more US fans (East Coast is more compact and you can get more American fans to drive & attend), but I really, really wish I could have been there in Columbus. Great job all!
