The Sunday match against the Timbers is already sold out of seats. SRO tickets will be available at the game.

PARKING UPDATE: As we noted earlier this week, due to a sold out crowd Sunday, the main parking lot will quickly fill up. However, we now have an alternative. We have preferred parking at the Lahey Clinic on 37 Broadway in Arlington, just a 5-minute walk to Dilboy Stadium. The cost to park there is $5. There is no tailgating allowed. That lot opens two hours prior to the game. Also, public transportation is another option by taking the Red Line T to Alewife, then boarding Bus 87, 88, or 89. Bus 89 brings you closest to Dilboy.

Of course, you smart fans know you can park on the Somerville side on a Sunday without a permit and pretty much anywhere in Arlington (including right on Broadway across from the Lahey Clinic). I think the same applies to the Medford side of the stadium as well.

    Update on the additional seats:

SEATING: Due to ongoing permitting issues between a number of parties that cannot be solved in a timely manor, this has resulted in the additional seating behind the team benches being taken down for the remainder of the season. As an organization that prides itself on presenting a fun and exciting atmosphere at our home games, we are deeply disappointed by this decision. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Seriously? I hope they're already making plans for not playing in Dilboy next year.

All depends on the other options. Dilboy is pretty cheap. I'm sure they will look, but not many non-football surfaces or non-turf surfaces in the area, though I've never really gone looking.

They really need to find a better venue than Dilboy. Still not sure what that is, exactly, but hopefully something better comes along.

The worst part is they surely paid to rent those extra bleachers and never recouped that cost with a paying customer in them.

Actually, they were used for the game against Chicago and they had their highest attendance to date (3300). They looked pretty permanent to me as I sat in them, but guess someone didn't ask the right person when it was started.

Hmm so do you think the total cost was recouped by the extra ~800 people that were at that game?

I don't think it has to be natural grass. It just needs to not have permanent gridiron lines. As nobody is really complaining about Portland, Seattle, or WNY's fields (even though I can still see where the gridiron lines and lacrosse lines were on WNY's pitch). I really think all the options I listed in this thread are better than Dilboy, although not necessarily cheaper.

Are there that many available stadiums that are unlined, even if they are turf?

    The options they suggested:

Nickerson Field -- decent location and size, played in it before

Harvard Soldiers Field -- Great soccer setup, but only seats 1k and no restrooms. The Revs used this for the US Open Cup and got maybe 2500 in it.

Ohri Field at Harvard -- 1500 seating... may be possible if it can be expanded

White Stadium -- Seats 10k, natural grass, but it's in Franklin Park. Would require a lot more work to get the fan base they've established to schlep there.

    Other places:

Hormel Field in Medford -- turf with football lines
Peirce Field at Arlington HS -- turf with football lines
Tufts Ellis Oval -- grass, seating for about 6k (they looked at this for WUSA and the city of Somerville objected. Not sure they would have chosen, but it didn't help). Obviously colleges can be tougher to work with and have their own issues, but they have practiced on Tufts soccer field (next to the football stadium, but almost no seating to speak of).

I'm sure some of the other HS stadiums might be worth a look (I know Burlington HS has been used by the women's football team that shares Dilboy). I would think they don't want to wander too far from this part of town as they have built some loyalty. Subway access would be ideal -- which makes Tufts & Nickerson better choices. I'll admit I can walk to Tufts so that's my preference...

Nickerson Field and Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium are the only 2 that I found. But there certainly may be some other ones around that I'm not aware of, and that's why I started the thread. I wanted to get input of other possible locations.

I think Tufts Ellis Oval would be a good option. Why would Sommerville object to them playing there, but not Dilboy, nowadays?

Remember that was 10 + years ago, so we have a different mayor and things have certainly evolved.

I'm sure the expectation of 6k+ fans was a bit overwhelming at the time (remember this was before they knew how big the crowds would really be), though Tufts does get a decent crowd for its football/soccer games (usually going at the same time), the students don't present a parking problem.

There's even a field that Tufts uses for parking for Homecoming only that could be used during the summer since there aren't athletic teams using it for practice. I think the city has some arrangement with Tufts to look the other way on street parking on Saturdays (city permit almost always required) as I don't see football fans ticketed.

Now just need to hook in the president of Tufts. Prior to becoming the boss, he spent 12 years in the UK (he's a Yank), so he's probably a soccer fan. No daughters though...

Breakers in another must win game? Who are we kidding? The season is over. So sad.

Lets hope that Syd shows up to play today. She's been dialing it in the last couple of games.

Surprisingly, the Breakers got a big post-game article in the Globe. Usually, they get a paragraph next to the MLS games or the once-a-year big spread with a business or human interest angle. But this is a traditional game coverage and is bigger than the Revs got.

Wonder what the big news will be? New stadium for next year? New coach? Maybe next year's jersey (they tried to make a big dal about announcing this years but were upstaged by nwslshop.com)? Or that they signed Angerer? ;)

Hoping for the first one, since they desperately need to get the hell out of Dilboy, but it's most likely going to be a new coach.

Well getting a new coach as early as possible is probably a good thing for offseason moves. So that'd wouldn't be completely bad.

    Here is the new coach:

Tom Durkin (his FC Bolts Celtic bio)

Tom Durkin most recently served as Academy Director for IMG Academies. He has coached at every level from youth soccer to Major League Soccer and US National Teams. As the Bradenton Academics’ (Premiere Development League - PDL) Head Coach, he led the Academy’s PDL team to over 100 wins and the 2009 PDL National Semi-Finals. Additionally, he has two Dallas Cup Championships and two PDL South East Conference Championships to his name and his 2008-09 USSF Academy League team finished third in the nation. He has also served as an assistant coach for both the U-17 National team and the Tampa Bay Mutiny, an Olympic Development Program Coach for both boys and girls, and Head Coach at Richland College, Union College, and Rutgers University.

Tom’s love of soccer began in Brazil, where he spent his early childhood years. He returned to the United States during his high school years, and received a soccer scholarship to Davis & Elkins College, later transferring to University of South Florida, and finishing up at Kean University.

Mostly coached men and he helped out the Breakers the last couple of weeks of the season.
