Dos Santos a man with a recruiting plan

"When Ottawa Fury FC reveals the squad it will carry into its first season you, can expect to see English, Scottish or Irish faces. You can expect Brazilians or Portuguese. You can expect Canadians and Americans. You might even get to know a Ghanaian.

But definitely do not expect a single 33 or 35-year-old with an aging reputation, and forget the idea that you will meet players before the end of the year".

“We are all working extremely hard to give the people of Ottawa a competitive club from the start. But nobody wants to see a team with 25 faces one year and another 25 the next. Ottawa fans need to be able to recognize the guy wearing the No. 5 shirt or the No. 10 shirt. We want them to be the face of the club.”

Unfortunately minor lea...oh excuse me, lower division soccer doesn't really work that way. Roster turnover must be expected. Players are always moving up and down. And longer term contracts generally are unwise. The type of player that you get to commit to D2, probably isn't the type of player you want long term anyway.

Also noticed he took a shot at San Antonio. Not sure why. Their payroll was modest.

New York Cosmos and Sligo Rovers fan poking my head in here to say congrats on signing former Rover Richie Ryan. He's a fine midfielder who was great for Sligo. Best of luck to Richie except for when he plays the Cosmos. He joins Kupono Low of the Carolina RailHawks as former Sligo Rovers in the NASL!

I'm not sure about that. MLS is D2 compared to the big European leagues. Plenty of MLS players have tried out in Europe and failed but had excellent MLS careers. (DeRo comes to mind.) So maybe getting a long term guy who is a solid D2 player and knows he'll never play in MLS or higher (or would just ride the bench if he did) is a good idea.

Ottawa Fury FC made significant additions to the club today announcing the signings of forward Tom Heinemann and midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic, pending international transfer. Heinemann joins Fury FC from the Vancouver Whitecaps, while Ubiparipovic comes to Ottawa from the neighboring Montreal Impact where he also garnered NASL experience while on loan at Minnesota United FC during the 2013 season. Collectively, the pair bring more than 125 games of MLS experience to the Nation’s Capital ahead of the club’s inaugural season.

Happy to see some players with MLS experience come on board. Hope they have a great season with the Fury, and I'm sure they must be itching to prove themselves and to bounce back to a MLS club.
