Carrie Solages is classic, he's the same idiot that said that the existing empty parking lot provides better quality of life then a $400M investment into the community.
I was confused by that too. I would think if soccer isn't a big enough draw that would be good news for him. Still not sure why he cares if this is successful or not since it involves a private investment
I can think of a couple reasons (outside pressure from connected people, outside pressure from connected people), nope just one reason. Just read the article: tsk, tsk, spelling.
He seems to want to argue both sides of the argument despite the fact the arguments contradict each other.
New York Cosmos stadium could create traffic woes on Queens and Long Island border: Pol http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/queens/opposition-mounts-cosmos-soccer-stadium-article-1.1419171
This thread already exists, but you've given it a new title to rally opposition and find the other NYCFC fan. Aren't you the same guy who tried to advertise NY Stadium waterfront plans for NYCFC on the Cosmos forum like yesterday? Reporting....
I'm pretty sure G Enriquez is just a nice guy who likes soccer and posts links to interesting articles. I am not sure if he has an agenda. Although I am thinking a Cosmos News thread might be needed to post these articles, good or bad, for the club and its fans. Thoughts?
It would be nice to have them consolidated in one place... That way everyone sees it and we aren't jumping all over the forums to keep up.
The turnout was great for the opener so the best thing Cosmos fans can do is keep filling the stadium at Hofstra and then anything is possible from getting a soccer specific stadium built like the one in Elmont to forcing MLS's hand into allow us to be NY3. If the money is there MLS will do it. The NHL has 3 teams in the area, and the locations of the teams will be fairly close to the locations of the NHL teams too, so its not a bad precedent. Everything starts with fans showing up in droves.
I posted it on here because I love soccer, not trying to start trouble. I would like both teams to do well. I mistakenly did post the link about the NYC FC waterfront stadium in the Cosmos forum. Sorry. BTW,good game by the Cosmos last night, They held us to a 0-0 draw at home in front of our biggest crowd of the season. Marcos Senna is a great player,he was all over the field last night.
The key is the second sentence. Build the stadium. Draw the crowds. Cut a huge check. Then MLS might let you in. Promising start though.
Forgiven. Although I find it strange that a Rowdies fan would want NYCFC to do well. Just odd is all. Carry on.
I am sure that the MLS would absolutely love to have three teams in the NY metro region two on the New York City side of the river and one in the North Jersey Metro Area. The Cosmos seem to be very sell backed and financed with sponsors such as Nike and Emirates and the other owned by EPL's Mann City and partnered with the Yankees and there already high powered media machine with its own Network. Both teams ready to build new stadiums with private funding yet are getting resistance from the areas they would like to build the stadiums. Imagine the three NY teams and the newly formed Metro Cup rivalry. These games would have grounds to be on NBC or ABC not NBC SN or ESPN2 Imagine the DPs that can be not just lured but wanting to come to play in the Big Apple and the money that a team backed by such top ownership groups and sponsors could pay these DPs. Could these games fill say Giants stadium, Yankee stadium. Would there be grounds for all three supporters groups be be at even the game that their team is not playing in along with season ticke holders fans from all three clubs and celebs wanting to be at every game between the teams even the ones there team is not participating in to boo or support the team that would better place theit own club in a better position to win the cup?
Yup. This is where u see the internet at it's worst. A few hardcore types, who supposedly love soccer, actually trying to hurt the game here. We have made incredible strides, but still a long way to go, and any soccer succes in this country, at any level should be appreciated.
So how are you all feeling about today's comments by the senator up there? Not official confirmation of anything, but said decision was imminent.
http://www.nysenate.gov/press-release/senator-martins-rebuilding-long-island-starts-now This is about as strong a comment in support as you can get, and as close to saying its a done deal without saying it is a done deal as you can get.
So still no word on if they plan on building this in stages? I think it would be stupid of them to build a 25k-30k stadium for D2 off the bat. They're gonna look really silly when after a while when they only have 8k-10k or less showing up to games in it.
I don't think they're building it with long-term NASL aspirations in mind. And if they are, I don't think they are planning on operating like a typical NASL team and if that's the case they shouldn't have typical NASL attendance goals.
Well, they're going have to step up their roster significantly then. I don't see the current one will drawing that many people. Especially the way they've been playing to start the half.
They have said from the beginning they do plan on upgrading the roster from its current talent level.
So hold it, you think that the NASL 2.0 Cosmos can fill a 25k-30k stadium on a regular basis? Really?
