Hey gang take a look at this fb page it has 17,000 people in it. WOW thats fantastic does anyone know who is running the page? www.facebook.com/detroitmls
It's not clear who is running it, but there was a letter from the leader of the Triple Play group that wants to build a stadium downtown on there encouraging people to keep supporting it.
The plans for teams 21, 22, 23 may have hit a snag at step 23, although this may only be a temporary delay: Source: Miami MLS bid lags September 14, 2013 quote: "cities for three of the four expansion teams the league hopes to add by the end of the decade have already been identified, with a league source confirming that that list is comprised of Orlando, Atlanta and Miami." "But that same source said the lack of a suitable stadium is currently holding back Miami’s bid" http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1553020/miami-mls-franchise-bid-lacks-suitable-stadium-source-says I guess MLS has grown to the point of being able to dictate where cities can put their stadia (like the League having nixed Pontiac).
Detroit soccer no free kick: Backers must win site bid, beat odds on profitability http://www.crainsdetroit.com/articl...e-kick-backers-must-win-site-bid-beat-odds-on
I really wish that the reporter, who got a lot of things right in this piece, would have mentioned something about SUM, and how easy it is for a team owner in any sport to make a profit and report a loss. I also would have liked to see a comparison of the number of teams in other sports that report a loss. And what a co-owner of Derby County would know about the ability of a Detroit MLS team to make a profit, I don't understand.
"Detroit soccer no free kick: Backers must win site bid, beat odds on profitabilityhttp://www.crainsdetroit.com/articl...e-kick-backers-must-win-site-bid-beat-odds-on" So what happened this week on the vote? Does MLSDetroit have a visible presence beside Facebook such Detroit FC fans packing city hall? I would love Detroit to get an MLS team over Miami.

http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-theme-qa-session-mls-commissioner-don-garber Detroit got a brief mention, starting at 16:02, in the Don's pre-season presser. He says, "Mike Duggan is a soccer fan; that's kind of a cool thing!" (refering to the Detroit mayor), and was at the Red Wing - Maple Leaf hockey game in Ann Arbor. In the end, he says that Detroit is not on a short list, but never say never. This was the middle portion of a Midwest-expansion discussion (Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton, Detroit, Minnesota) [expansion cities were done alphabetically, and ironically, the Midwest cities were bunched together], where he says to Cleve, Cincy, and Dayton fans, "Support the Crew," implying that expansion to those cities is probably not on the horizon.
