What'd you think of Chadli? I wasn't too impressed. TBH, I think he may have a bit of a learning curve in the prem.

Agreed, still it's really hard to judge when a team is so unbalanced.

On Dempsey though, I think his game is sort of tailor made for the MLS. I would be surprised if he was top scorer the next 3 years. I'm not Seattle fan but it is an exciting move. I'm glad it's finally happening with a club outside of LA or NY.

Tottenham tends to start the season slow and improve as the weeks roll by. If they started as strong as they finish, they'd be a regular Champs League team.

Kudos to the American fans of the Spuds: must have been hard for you, guys, defending Clint from all the abuse in your forums. Saw it first hand, and I bet you must have felt like when your family doesn't like your best friend.

Anyway, even if the money is wisely invested, finding the right team chemistry will take a while. So it's going to depend on what Arsenal and Liverpool do, because the Manchester clubs and Chelsea are likely to keep at the top.

Dude. You realize Spurs are selling Bale, right? And getting tons of money? And will probably invest further into the squad? If not now, definitely in January? And they will be looking at more strikers and wingers to replace Ade and Defoe (cause they weren't great last year) and Dempsey and Bale (cause they are gone)?

And you realize Dempsey has 2 years left on his current deal at Spurs? And he wasn't going to play much? And it's a World Cup year? And he now signed a 4 year deal worth a lot of money? And Spurs aren't in Champions League this year? And even if they were he might not feature in the side?

This move makes more sense than you are making out. Think about it for a second. You can be disappointed, but it makes sense for the man and his family in a World Cup year. So try to relax.

Huge drop off in quality and level of competition. Bringing up money and family isn't related to what happens on the pitch.

Attempt to follow along. I'm not arguing against his bank account or his family coming back to the states.

Yep, with the addition of dempsey, Seattle has the best attack in MLS. Dempsey, Martins, EJ, Rosales and Neagle. They were already pretty fun to watch now they are must see tv for US and MLS fans. They might finally get that elusive MLS Cup.

I never liked this move, because Spurs have been a fast break team and Clint is a half court player (if I may use a basketball analogy.) The only way it was really going to work was if Spurs used Clint in that way, if they adjusted their style to be a mix of fast break and half court offense. They didn't, and Clint is gone.

Honestly, Clint had a better year than I would have thought under the circumstances. He carved out a role in Spurs' style of play.

Here is some 411: MLS has become a very good league, as competitive as most outside the big 4. And getting better all the time. We will compete for the WC when MLS takes one more big jump in quality and this will happen when most of the top USA players play in MLS. Remember the MLS business model does not call for it to be a top selling league to other leagues but for MLS to grow into a top league. And I believe we are getting there, with or without the Euro- snobbery.

Anyone else in for him for 6 million pounds? How much time would he see at the new-look Spurs, that weren't taking a punt on him after a career year? Who would match his wages? You keep talking about "on the field", but that's not where he would be spending his time as a Spurs player this year, by all accounts.

Unfortunately these things don't happen in a vacuum... otherwise you might threaten to have a point.

Quality of play arguments are always relative. How do you compare quality of play among leagues that never play each other in a serious competition? If a Turkish or Russian club has moderate success in the UCL, that's fine, but how do we know that a MLS team wouldn't qualify for the group stages . We can speculate they probably wouldn't, but we don't know for sure.

Is it by international success? There were only 9 players who play in England domestically that played in the semis of the last world cup. Compare that the the Bundesliga and La Liga. Far behind. Yet most people are quick to tout the PL as the best in the world.

Truth is, we'll never know how leagues truly stand up against each other. Any discussion is speculative at best.

However, when you have a league (MLS) which has a full 1/2 of the starters (LD, CD, Zusi, Besler, Goodson) on a national team which has a darn good chance of making it to the quarters at least next year and 3 more of our starters spent their formative years in that league (Howard, Bradley, Altidore) and several of our first subs (Gonzales, EJ) currently play in the same league, perhaps that league is better than what it's cool to give them credit for being.

Where is this written? When has anyone from Spurs come out and said he was going to get less time. I've got as much evidence to the contrary as you do for this.

Well he was the 4th leading scorer in England 2 years ago, so he should be able to replicate that.

Of course if he has fewer goals in MLS than he's had in England, we can obviously say that an EPL guy couldn't hack it in MLS. ;)

Not to be rude, but the guy you quoted only said Spurs will fight for 6th this year. He didn't say anything about Dempsey. Good straw man though.

He still had 2 years to go on a deal paying him pretty well, no? Don't you think if he were in the manager's plans he would have stuck around? Whatever, neither of us know so it doesn't really matter that much. I think he would see less time this year, you evidently disagree and that's fine.

I think the writing is on the wall, Spurs are bringing in players and still pushing for 4th because it is wide open at this point -- Arse has done nothing, as usual, Pool may lose Suarez, Everton aren't a top 4 team, Sunderland should be good but not that good, same goes for Villa... so Spurs will be going for it with 80+ million burning a hole in their pocket. If they're not buying more right now, then definitely in January.

Now that Dempsey is gone, because that's how it works. If he would have stayed I have a feeling out chances would have been better for a few. Irrelevant though, I just found that a little humorous.

Uhm the i have a phone call for jond the Bundesliga on the line would like a word with you sir.

The rest of your agument is logical if you take it as a given that CD was in Spur's plans. Given Siggys improvement last year and their roster additions it wass obvious he was going to struggle to see the field.

Even at that, I still think it is not that bad a move. At his level of his career he is perfectly capable of keeping his form for the next WC as long as he is getting competitive games on the pitch. Hell EJ might even gain an advantage from plaaying with him since they could get much better understandings of one another. For all the reasons moving to MLS is bad the converse is that it can be good, and We are left with a push.

Any short term negatives are likely mitigated by the long term advantage to MLS. IMO this is a pretty big coup by MLS and may help pave the way for other top players.

None of this factors any possible psychogical that might be gained in the event either he or his wife were weary of being so far from home. If Momma aint happy aint nobody happy. Seattle aint Tejas but I bet Century link field feels a lot more like home than White Hart Lane.

In what way, exactly? All of your points and concerns are refuted. MLS players have contributed on the highest level for the US team, a loan back to EPL could be a possibility in the next window, no other teams seem to be in for Dempsey, ever, only a few prem clubs after his career year... no one from the continent ever had real interest because he would cost too much.

You are reacting emotionally, which I get, but that doesn't mean you're making any logical sense. You have made zero points. None.

there's no reason for anyone to believe she was unhappy and pressured him to move, unless someone who actually knows them tells us otherwise. when you're wealthy and young a few years abroad is an exciting adventure, especially if you're lucky enough to live in one of the two most cosmopolitan cities in the world.
