Nobody is guaranteed to start. You lose form you are on the bench. Let us see how his body reacts to the travel, rubber field and bad referees and the other players performing at higher level. To me what he did in the past doesn't mean much. Technically, Joe Corona is at his level (forgetting the past) and can easily take over his spot. One injury lasting a month at his age can cost him his starting spot.

Would have liked to see him stay on, playing the role of impact sub. Didn't want him starting.

How do you think I ended up as a mod in the first place?

I woke up after a three day bender to find messages in my inbox telling me I had no nuts and was a communistic fascist who's never been laid.

Like an idiot I cracked my only bottle of Avery's Uncle Jacob's Stout yesterday, their special release for the year. It was amazing, and it is gone. Now I'm working on Jolly Pumpkin's La Roja Amber Ale.

    gutted

All I can think is that AVB had a sit down with him and told him he wasn't going to play much and to try to find the best deal he could. Even that doesn't make sense. Not every highly touted foreign signing adapts well to the EPL. Clint was a proven performer and the club will be in 4 competitions this season.

I think people are looking way too much into this other than the fact, they just gave him $40 Million!!!

We're not going by attendance... but even still that's not a great point considering where Spurs play. Let's see what happens when they actually get their new stadium.

Some of those idiot Spurs fans from day one said that Levy never gives players a 3 year deal, it's always 4 or more because he likes to sell players with 2 years left on their contract. Dempsey could have stayed on another year but his role would have been reduced, he never was going to get the minutes to have this season you suggest he might have had. The fact he's been sold is not as surprising to me as others.

You do realize surely that Spurs have around the average capacity of century link on our season ticket waiting list? The club is restricted by the size of our stadium. Also modernization has hindered us for years we used to get 50k+ in the lane for big matches and are record attendance is around 75k. Anyone who actually has lived in London would be foolish to suggest Spurs have a small fan base. Spurs are a club restricted by our infrastructure, if we had a 60k stadium and CL football our revenue would be similar to Arsenal.

Like 4 starters are playing including Lloris who's having a mare, we'll be fine.

The result would be no different with Dempsey.

My glee has nothing to do with Dempsey, and all to do with the Spuds losing.

Heck, if Dempsey were playing there, I'd have to fight myself not to be smiling over that shellacking.

That's an entirely different argument. Many are realistic about what MLS is, a growing league who's done some good things and the level of play is improving. But no matter the extent of how much one likes MLS, it's still a huge drop off in quality, competition and pressure to go from UCL contender in the EPL to Sea. Actually, a bigger drop off in play si somewhat rare unless going from the EPL to UAE or Australia/China. Even when an EPL star goes to Russia or Turkey seeking a payday, the drop of play is not in the same discussion. It's not much different quality wise than if Clint just picked up and went to a mid table Danish club, a mid table Championship club or a lower table Ered club. And if Clint had done something like that, just about everyone would be scratching their heads and pointing to the huge drop off in quality.

Being honest that MLS is ranked somewhere between 15-20 in the world as a league and that it's shocking our NT captain in his prime decided to bolt the top league in the world for one much lower, in a WC year has nothing to do with believing in MLS's quality. People seem to think if you don't agree with this move that you don't believe enough in MLS. That's BS. Yes people can bring up the money and being back in America and Seattle's fan support and all that, I get that, but as it relates to quality of league and the actual soccer on the pitch, it's a similar move to going to mid table Denmark, Sweden, the Championship, a mid-lower table Ered club, etc, and disagreeing with a hypothetical move to one of those situations based on the huge drop off in play has nothing to do with not having confidence in those leagues either. It's just reality.

When Anelka went to China, it was about the money. Anyone arguing the quality of play in China is fine and people don't have enough confidence in the Chinese league would look ridiculous. And if Ibra decided to pick up and leave PSG and go back to Sweden, just about everyone would question the considerable drop off in quality of play and be wondering WTF he's thinking. And that would have little to do with not having enough confidence in the Swedish league.

Yeah ok, Who would give a damn about Spurs losing with 4 starters and a back line consisting of not natural defenders against Monaco? I barely care, disappointed in some of the players but doesn't mean much for the oncoming season.

I fail to see where I claimed it would have been? (at least he wouldn't have gone ankles up like a $2 like most of them)

Enjoy that fight for 6th place this year. After dealing with the Tottenham nose in the air crowd for a year, I have a rooting interest....against. I thank you all for getting me emotionally invested.

If we would have kept Dempsey we would have been right in that top 4 hunt eh? Not too bothered, If Bale stays, great, if he goes we'll have a ton of cash to build a more balanced side. I like Dempsey but he didn't fit, I think it was the right move for Spurs looking forward. Also I don't think him moving to the MLS is as bad as people are making out, his ego clearly isn't as big as people in this thread. Good luck to him in Seattle.

Feel free to stick around. We're equal opp abusers. I predict Sunderland and Stoke fans to be next.

I'm going to miss you Yiddo. You offer just enough insight along with your American guilt to be worth reading.

Dunno, but we had 10 senior players missing. Spurs love to do this in preseason and it's very annoying.
