So we have to replace Luna and his offensive skills. Who steps up?

    Any other changes?

If we win the fall season, do we play a split squad friendly at the Soccer Bowl? :)

Seriously, what if we do win, who would we play in the finals? The team with the second most points over the two seasons?

Regarding the Soccer Bowl, it would be the team with the most points otherwise.

Outside of hitting the market for a striker, I can't really think of any moves based upon need that I want the Silverbacks to make. For an NASL team, this squad really has some good depth, which was especially demonstrated with Bobby Reiss' performances down the stretch.

Other than pride, what are we playing for in the Fall season? That's one of the negatives of the split seasons. Of course, I like our position better than anyone's!

It's another trophy, so there's plenty to play for. ;)

If the Silverbacks pull off the NASL treble, then yes. :D

A bit naive. Professional soccer player contracts have bonuses tied in. Base salary is minimal for players at this level. They barely get by and have to work other jobs to make ends meet. Play well and your pay is substantially increased.

Oh, and you don't get to that level of playing any sport without being overly competitive to begin with.

On top of that, there's the big inspiration of proving that the Cosmos aren't s***. ;)

A bit facetious on my part. Individually, of course there' s something to play for. I'm not suggesting that the guys won't try. I'm merely saying that it's a strange feeling already having our ticket punched to the big game with an entire season to play.

See, I think I'm looking at the Soccer Bowl in a way that is very contrary to how the NASL would otherwise want fans to view it. I actually think the seasonal championships are a bigger deal since they are more representative of a season's grind, and the Soccer Bowl is more like England's Community Shield match between the previous season's Premier League and FA Cup winners.

I know the NASL wants it to be representative of the overall championship, but since it's not a playoff that comes at the end of a full calendar season and is instead a match between the champions of two distinct competitions, I just can't buy into that.

With that said, it is indeed another trophy that the Silverbacks can win, and I'll be pulling like hell for them to do so. Still, if I had to pick between winning the Fall Season or the Soccer Bowl, I'd probably pick the Fall Season.

I am very happy that the team has 3 months to promote the Soccer-Bowl. Perhaps they will bring in extra seating and we can get break our attendance record plus get levels of media never before realized.

As for the Fall season, of course we should try to win it but it sure is nice to have the luxury of resting players so that we peak physically for that game.

You can rest them during the fall season to have them ready for a US Open Cup run, oh wait, my bad :p

I saw we sold Klute's contract. My immediate response was, damn we lost another off the team. But then I remembered he hadn't played all season.

That's a good success story for our scouting and our player development.

Maybe we turn that money into a new signing for the fall.

Very good bit of business. We'll probably never hear what the transfer fee was, but regardless, it should be enough to cover the wages of a couple of good NASL players.

And as it was this season, we saw that left back is just fine in the hands of either Randolph or Hunt.

A few years back, the contract-sale of Mac Khandji was a big financial and reputation boost to the club. You may recall Khandji came in as a sub for Colorado to win the MLS Championship that year. It was clear to me at the time the club viewed this sort of player development as a potentially serious revenue stream. But, not much has happened since then until this season.

I could see Atlanta getting a reputation as a 'go-to' location for young aspiring players we can continue playing well and selling contracts to larger clubs. That could land us some really exciting players in the future. I just hope we don't overdo it and dilute our own roster too much.

I'm thinking that the team that wins the fall championship has the better chance at the Soccer Bowl, for whatever that's worth. We'll have our team picked over before we even get to the fall.

We've lost one of our best scoring threats and our most consistent reliable defenfer. But I guess that's the life in the second division.

I hope we reinvest whatever we got from the the Bloom and Klute deals back into the club. A want a new signing.

And in the modern soccer climate, there's really nothing wrong at all with being a club with that reputation.

As we all know, unless you are one of the biggest clubs, you're going to be a selling club any time the price is right. The important thing to have in such a situation is a good foundation in place to continue finding new talent, nurturing that talent, and somehow keep winning in the midst of that roster turnover.

With the likes Wynalda and Haynes on hand these days, I think that is exactly what the Silverbacks have these days. Good people in the right places at a club can often mean just as much as the players on hand.
