I stand corrected. The players called in aren't actually on the Breakers "reserve team" which is really called the "Breakers College Academy", a U23 WPSL team. No confusion there...

Meg Linehan just tweeted about Woods being waived by the team in early June. Guess that didn't go out over the wire.

Why didn't Boston call up Gorden, LaPonte, Russell & LaMotte, the ladies actually on the Breakers "reserve team"? Another brilliant NWSL rule?

Those ARE the players the Breakers activated for last night. They aren't on the U23 team.

My bad, the post above threw me....
Did any "reserves"(Gorden, LaPonte, Russell, LaMotte) actually have any minutes on the pitch?

Actually there is a reserves team and a College Academy team. The Academy team has amateurs only on it. The Reserves team has potential pros and when they scrimmage it can include players who actually play on the professional team but who get limited minutes.

Finding info on the reserve team is tough. The college academy team is playing in the WPSL: http://www.examiner.com/article/boston-breakers-college-academy-team-to-play-wpsl - which is where the Breakers have had a reserve team in the past.

I did a little digging and found this:

The Breakers Reserves were in action Tuesday night. They came back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the NY Magic in Brooklyn, 5-1. Adriana Leon and Kate Howarth scored 2 goals apiece, and Anisa Guajardo scored once. Keeper Colleen Boyd earned the win in goal.

Like I said, the set up is a little confusing. The teams are separate and the reserves aren't playing much of a schedule and it includes players who aren't rostered for the NWSL.

You are correct that the Reserves schedule is hard to find. I only know because I saw a WPSL team scrimmage the Reserves as their own College Academy WPSL team practiced on another field. The Breakers Reserve team that scrimmaged included Schoepfer, Howarth, Evans as well as a number of players who've never made a real game roster.

This is the official roster, including the "reserves".

The reserves on the roster practice with the team. They have no schedule.
The reserves were told in March that the possibility of play time was about zero and if they were called up they would more than likely sit the bench. Looking at yesterdays game roster, I don't see that any of the reserves made an appearance in the contest.

That's why I was a little surprised when I saw that none of the reserve players were rostered with the WPSL team. I figured they would have them on the academy team (the U23 is an artificial designation anyway) and then use them when needed with the main team. Since they weren't getting paid, that shouldn't violate NCAA rules. As long as it was okay with WPSL, seemed to make sense.

Maddy Evans was a reserve player until they signed her late last week to backfill Woods.

The reserves listed on the roster have graduated college and are at least 23 years old.

Evans is not listed on the team reserve roster.

    I understand that....

I was just speculating that they *could* have them on the WPSL roster since the U23 designation is arbitrary by the Breakers.

She was a reserve until she signed. Then she went on the regular roster.

Apparently Evans was on the reserve roster, great job of working hard and being called up.
She's now on the active roster.
So she gets her travel expenses covered.
    That's nice.

Actually, Evans was signed to a full contract, according to Meg Linehan:

    Good for Evans.
The NWSL rules seem asinine at worst and arbitrary at best.
Evans gets Woods spot, yet D'Agostino must remain on the active roster despite her injury.
One would hope the league wants to field the best teams possible.
The rules end up handicapping teams and restricting many players from being able to play.
The league is functioning primarily for the benefit of the USA, Canadian, & Mexican national teams. Fielding the best teams is secondary. Will be interesting to see if the league last another year and if so what changes are considered and made.

Bing a Leroux fan, I've begun to follow the Breakers. Here's their most recent 2-0 win.

Nice goal by Leroux to start things off!!!
