The potential pairings for the 3rd round, where the MLS teams enter, were announced. The Quakes will be on the road on May 28 against the winner of the Portland Timbers U-23 (PDL) vs. Charleston Battery (USL Pro). The Portland/Charleston game will be played next Tuesday in Portland. Tough scheduling as this falls between weekend trips to Dallas and Salt Lake.
Don't think we are going to get many lucky breaks this year, and an away game (if in Portland) on crappy turf

Portland U-23s beat the Sacramento Gold to get to the second round.. Sucks, would have liked to see the matchup with the Quakes.
Maybe it (the US open cup) could be sponsored by AEG and given a name that establishes a tie with the much-more-well-known-but-similar-in-nature-and-duration FA Cup: It could be known as the FU(AEG) Cup....
"The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest annual team tournament in American sports, dating back to 1914. " from the Quakes article.... This again shows how our current Quakes are so disconnected from the community. If they were indeed around since 1974 they would have read Soccer Magic that started in 1989. Some time in the early 1990's we ran a series of articles written, and completely researched by San McGeever, on the history of soccer in Northern California. Our organized soccer began in the late 1890's. Our California State Cup was established in 1902. So which is the oldest annual team tournament in America? In fact if you have a team that wants to enter the deadline is.... See another example of the Quakes just promoting THEIR soccer. Sorry just had to get that in because I hate it when people lie or don't check facts. But then again "if you lie a lie long enough people will believe it." Geez, take a chill pill. So they omitted the word "national", which would have made it factual. I don't think they were trying to snub any local or regional event.
It is likely that the Quakes match will be streamed on uslnation.com regardless of the opponent. And Portland often streams non-MLS matches played at Jeld-Wen in case the Quakes play the Timbers U-23 PDL team.

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This couldn't have worked out better for me. Going to see the rare Quakes game LIVE!! I'll post pics.
If the Quakes win in Charleston, they will travel to the winner of the Atlanta/RSL game on June 12. http://www.ussoccer.com/news/lamar-...rth-round-of-us-open-cup-set-for-june-12.aspx

Atlanta is just a 30 minute flight! This could be a good summer. I'm already booked for the DC game on June 22nd.
So our choices are a cross country (literally) trip squeezed between 2 away games or playing on Portland's shitty little plastic pitch? Some choice, I don't know which to hope for.
