ussoccer: On Thursday afternoon @J_Klinsmann will announce on http://t.co/oQ1957MBuH the #USMNT roster for the May/June training camp. Haha very funny but April fools is past. Everyone knows if JK has a game on May 29th the roster will be released on May 28th.
Klinsmann said he will call in Holden http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...t-holden-to-rejoin-usa-national-team/2130931/
For me this is kind of stupid. As much as I would like to see Holden back, he hasn't played serious soccer in well over two years? He has a handful of minutes and games in a second division playing in a position that we are already stacked at. Why?
I would surmise a wild ass guess by saying he wants to see if he's worth bringing in for the Gold Cup. Which, I'm not really opposed to. If he was bringing in Holden to roster for the qualifiers, that would be different and kind of batty.
Sure. But, I can think of lots of other guys who probably deserve a Gold Cup shot way before Holden. Frankly, not so worried that he gets called in to at least some get some training with the team, but it seems to me Holden has a long way to go before he is back to his previous form. Now giving him a shot in the camp as a risk, is probably a risk worth taking... but then why not Donovan also?
Well, that's the question, isn't it? Holden and Donovan's situations aren't perfectly analogous; if one believes Wahl's report (I don't, for the record) I suppose one possible line of reasoning would be to leave Landon with LAG to continue to play and regain form, whereas broken Stuart Holden will be doing nothing during the summer, so why not bring him in?
Yeah, that is good. I am hoping both regain form and help us out a bit. When Holden is at his top form, he is just below Bradley and Jones in our CM rotation, especially since Williams and Edu have dropped off.
Here's my prediction (Edu would make it but his current health status is questionable): GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake) DEFENDERS (8): Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Carlos Bocanegra (Racing Santander), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Edgar Castillo (Tijuana), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim) MIDFIELDERS (9): DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Michael Bradley (Roma), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Stuart Holden (Bolton Wanderers), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Jose Torres (Tigres), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City) FORWARDS (7): Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar), Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna), Clint Dempsey (Tottenham Hotspur), Herculez Gomez (Santos), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders FC), Mike Magee (LA Galaxy), Jack McInerney (Philadelphia Union)
Good squad, but I wouldn't call in Torres. He has added so little so many times, just don't see him as international quality.
How has Edu dropped off? Before the injury he had been playing some of the better football of his career with Bursa. If anything his value is on the rise again.
Who would you call instead? Not sure he'd be called if Shea, Edu, & Williams were fit but i'd say its pretty safe to say Klinsmann will call him with them possibly out.
No problem man. He came back from his injury April 27th and went the full 90 but he's been out the last 2 weeks. I'm not sure if he's been held out for additional recovery time or if he was dropped for the mistake he made in that game. He should be ready to go for the qualifiers though.
Seltzer says groin injury: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...nsfer-maurice-edu-stoke-city-loan-deal-set-ex
Exactly. I dont think Bedoya is a reasonable shout to get called up here. I mean, he technically is but is Jurgen going to call him? I really doubt it. Im sure he'll get called for the Gold Cup though.
No, he's not played any games in central midfield. So far he has played four games as #10, two games as left wing/mid and 2 games as centre forward.
