Been playin alot more on this stuff for five a-side, good stuff although varies from place to place. Point is was just wonderin what boots people use to play on this stuff dont see any probs with blades on it although with things like the F50+'s havin metal an plastic blades as apose to the standard metal stud wondered if these played any better. At the moment i only have studs and indoors, the indoors roll too much and the studs are hard on your feet, lookin to get some Vapor II's FG once my knees ops sorted out, but still unsure as to wether to get some F50+'s SG for indoor use an opt for the Vapor II's SG as the fields round hear have no strenght in em tend to glide around on FG's although played a couple of times in heavy rain an people were slidin along in SG's. Anyway back to the point what do people use an how do they rate em (mainly lookin for F50+ and Vapor II users hear).
I used my Vapors on artificial grass (the FG ones) and the blades literally burned away because of the static electricity created by the turf. Get boots with rubber studs on to prevent this. bigg skizzle
I use puma cellerators and KSLs, nike legends, adidas pulses and f50+. I have never had a problem with any of my boots on synthetic grass. We're not allowed to play in metal or SG boots at any of the facilities here. As far as grip goes, I'll rate them first to last: 1. Nike legends 2. Adidas pulses/F50+ 2.5 Puma Cellerators 3. Puma KSL I say 2.5 on the cellerators cause they are about equal with the adidas on grip. Pumas are my fav boots so for me grip is not really an issue, cause I'll take my KSLs any day.
Wear some astroturf trainers! They will provide you with much more cushioning, and your foot will be much more stable as it will be closer to the ground (because you will not be standing on top of your studs, which will not sink into the astroturf). Adidas F50 A3's are good, if your feet suit a shallower boot, or maybe try the Predator A3's or Nike tiempo Astro's
Modern artificial grass is a lot more grass like and not like astroturf. You can wear regular low-stud or blade shoes without much of a problem. Not that astroturf trainers aren't a solution. I see lots of refs at all levels use them on regular grass, after all.
But they're refs, What the hell do they know..... Just kidding.. I used my f50 A3 one game and wasn't horribly impressed with the grip on them, so i stick to FG shoes.
Thats what i used the first time i went on it an nearly snaped my ankles turnin on it, way too much roll on the ankle. Thanks for the help guys
Spejic, you get rep. Reason: you make a distinction between artificial grass (i.e., NexTurf, FieldTurf) and artificial turf (AstroTurf 12, TartanTurf). I find that a lot of people in field hockey, now using artificial grass rather than the bumpy real stuff, tend towards short molded cleats in the first few months after the field is laid. Once it is settled down, I have seen people get by with sneakers.
ah you see the difference to me is that on one you get sand in ya crack an on the other you get those stupid lal bits of spunge.
I play on field turf with the little black dots that get everywhere and I found that the puma cellerator GCi's are really good for this. Short studs and good cusioning are a perfect match for the turf. I also got them for cheap because they are a couple years old but they still look clas because i got them in white and they never get dirty on turf.
hello all the place i play (indoor, 5 a side) at has recently changed the surface to one of the newer artificial grass (plastic grass 'blades' with rubber pellets) and i would like to find shoes that better match the new field conditions. my last pair of indoor shoes are a pair of Diadora Maracana. they are OK but feel kind of clunky when compared to my outdoor shoes (Copas). I would like to try some dedicated AG cleats as they seem closer to the sytle of my Copas. I especially don't like the heel height of the Maracanas whereas my Copas provide a better center of gravity (if that makes any sense). Unfortunately, I can't wear my Copas indoor (the studs are too long) so I'm looking for new AG cleats. One more note, I have skinny/narrow feet, even my Copas (as much as I like them) feel a bit wide. so far I've been looking at the Adidas Adipure 11Pro but I haven't seen them in person. I'd appreciate any other recommendations. thanks
Why don't you just get some FG copas? - You are usually allowed to wear FG studs on 3G turf. appleCORR
yeah, that's what i have for outdoor but they don't work so well inside. the rear studs are too tall and i don't feel like i'm planting correctly. the diadoras plant well (i.e. the studs grip well) but because the shoe itself has a thicker heel, i feel disconnected from the playing surface and/or that i'm leaning forward (because of the lift at the back of the shoe) if that makes any sense.
Wow, old thread. Ah, indoor turf. You'll probably want to look at turf shoes rather than AG, like the Mundial Team. Mods, perhaps this should be merged into the main Indoor/Turf/AG thread?
well, i'm a noob and after reading that warning about not starting new threads when there are existing ones... no, i play on artificial grass and i'd really like AG shoes. i've had Mundial Teams and they were basically the same as the Maracanas i have now. they feel tall (too much heel) and a bit clunky when compared to my outdoor boots. actually please don't merge it. i searched and read around and while i understand the purpose of the Indoor/Turf/AG thread, i refloated this one because it makes sense to have an AG specific thread.
anything with concial studs is one of the best bets for 3g, you could get some older legends for cheap on ebay
Necroposting (bumping an old thread) is generally also looked down upon, though depending on the forum, not always against the rules. I don't know if it's the case everywhere, but at the indoor artificial grass fields I go to, you're not allowed to wear outdoor cleats (AG included). If they are allowed, I'd maybe look at a pair of Joma Total Fits, although I'm not sure what your budget is. Eh, I don't have a problem with having a separate thread, it's more of a question of whether or not there are enough posts here to warrant it being separate. I'll leave it to the mods.
i understand its just that in this case it seems like the premium is on not starting new threads (or personal threads) so i opted to resuscitate thanks for the heads up on the Jomas, will look into them, they look like they might fit the bill, esp. because they seem like they are narrow.
Yes, the thread was bumped but I felt that we should keep it open because i don't think it will have a long life span - hence the reason i posted a comment and didn't close the thread. I hope that you find the answers you are looking for. appleCORR
Hah, resuscitate. I like to joke that it's like casting a resurrection spell in a video game. You're welcome. Since you said you had a pair of Copas and a pair of Maracanas, I figured you'd probably be interested in a kangaroo leather boot. I think you mentioned in the Astro Turf / Indoor thread you don't want Nike, so that ruled out the Tiempo Legend IV, but I remembered seeing various Joma cleats with AG studs in some catalogs. Also, I apologize if I at all sounded harsh (or sarcastic or negative in any way) in my previous posts. I didn't think twice about how what I said could be taken. Going with the theme of threads being living beings, that makes it sound like you're letting it live only for it to die a slow and painful death! Jokes aside, I would've thought there'd be plenty of interest for a thread like this with all the artificial grass fields popping up everywhere, but even the Astro Turf / Indoor thread gets relatively few posts.
That's because most people are content with wearing FG boots on 3G turf. And those who aren't tend to wear TF. Most people don't seem to realize that there are AG boots (you don't tend to see pros in them, I can only recall ever seeing one pro wearing AGs) and are surprised when they see mine. It also doesn't help that Nike is the only major manufacturer to regularly release their top of the line boots in AG or that the only place to find them is online, since local stores only carry TF and FG (at least around here).
Yeah, that's what I figured, and I've had similar experiences. What pro did you see wearing AG boots? I haven't seen one yet.
Not enough pros wear AG in-game though. Georgios Samaras wearing 2-blade Vapor 9s when playing away at Spartak (3G pitch).
