You're right, it would make sense to start Narvaez so he can get some playing time and gain some rhythm. Francis, who starts at RB is injured and its unclear if he will recover in time.

I manages to catch Emelec's game against Dep Quito yesterday. Overall good game. De Jesus wasted several opportunities, but that's to be expected. Luckily for him he actually scored one yesterday. The player that stood out was Gaibor. He was awesome yesterday. His form the past couple of games has been good. Hopefully he starts El Classico. One player that didn't stand out was Zeballos, not his day, I'll leave it at that. He have a tough stretch of games on the horizon, so player rotation will be critical.

Gaibor is doing good this season. I remember him saying he wasn't going to let his starting position go when Quinteros gives him his opportunities and he's proving to do well. Good for him, I'd like to see him do well in Emelec because that's a player that should not go to waste. Seleccion material.

Another player that I'm really liking lately is Junior Sornoza from Independiente who was a regular starter 2 seasons back and was inconsistent last season to the point where he got lost. I think he's finally sitting in comfortably in a starting position this season. He's another player that will can be an important asset to the NT in the near future if he keeps it up.

Emelec is going with a 4-3-3 formation, exactly how I wanted the team to line up. Had to get Gaibor in there, he's been playing well, as has Gimenez so it would have sucked if one of them had to start the game on the bench.

Emelec is going with Dreer, Vera, JL Quinonez, Bagui, Gaibor, Quinonez, Gimenez, Mondaini, Caicedo, De Jesus.

We have Valencia, Angulo, and Zeballos on the bench if we need offense.

The f*ck is wrong with Carlos Vera, he calls two nonexistent fouls on Caicedo inside the box!

Good game between Emelec-Independiente today. Narvaez stepped in and played well. He robbed Guerrero of a goal with a spectacular play in the first half. The Zeballos signing is not looking like a smart move at the moment. Definitely not the production people had in mind when he joined the team.

I'm really liking Sornoza right now. I remember first hearing about when he scored two goals against Emelec two years ago, he hurt his knee in a game against Barcelona but didn't display the same form once he returned. He didn't really get much of a chance last season but is doing well this season. He didn't really have a good showing at the U20 competition although he did have his moments. Remember this kid trained with Tottenham for a couple of days. To be honest, if given a choice I would pick him over Uchuari.

We play Fluminense on Thursday. Not gonna lie but our defense has me worried. We will be without Achilier and Nasuti because of suspension, and JL Quinonez will miss the game because of the knee injury he sustained in the game against BSC. In the two games I've seen Narvaez play this season, he's played well. Libertadores is a different beast entirely so we'll see. Who will be his partner on defense is a mystery. I guess Quinteros could go with Morante, who hasn't played a game all season. Quinteros also said he could go with Bagui at CB and go with Gimenez at LB.

I think those two suspensions (achilier and nasuti) are going to be a determining factor for thursdays game. you can't just lose two key players and expect that narvaez and another player with not many games to his belt this season are going to be strong against an opponent like Fluminense. Emelec has to secure a win of at least 2-0. Most importantly they shouldn't get scored on- that's always the key to passing to the next round. No goals recieved at home. If you recieve a goal, then you better score 3 to make up for that 1 you recieved. That's my way of seeing it at least.

Winning by a score of 2-1 is useless imo, so yeah not getting scored on will be critical. Hopefully we have a little luck going for us that day.

Crazy game on the horizon! I just saw that one of the Flu players refuses to talk about the 2008 libertadores finals. Talk about a grudge, huh? :)

Why would they bring that up? Liga is basically in a different country than Emelec. LOL

they're still butt hurt maybe? I'm interested to see what Emelec can do against Fluminense w/o Nastui and Achilier.

I'm interested to see what emelec can do without the altitude. It's not like Liga outplayed FLU.

Jaja. The altitude card strikes again. In 2008, Liga undeniably outplayed FLU in the FIRST half in Quito, not the second when the typical weak kneed sea levelers start crying for the oxygen masks. That half was an impressive display of futbol. No funny bounces, no one gasping or turning green. Just better ball. Not even FLU dudes complained of altitude as they left Quito. They were men and several actually were pleased that they had withstood the fury as they headed home to Rio. I know, I was there.

Then in Rio, FLU outplayed Liga for sure .. again in the first half. Liga was on their heels and needed to hang on big time. The rest of game was much more even, with both teams having chances.

So yes, maybe Liga didn't outplay FLU on balance. I would call it even over the 4 halves (which is remarkable and historic given the teams/countries/histories involved). But pulling out the altitude card on this one is weak, revisionist history.

If you are saying that altitude doesn't effect the opposing club than you are a friggin liar. I used to stay in Ibarra with family friends and hated the altitude. Always had to take that extra breathe and I wasn't even exposing my body to any rigorous exercise. Why don't you run to the record books and see how many times in that 4-5 year lapse Liga won outside of quito? As I recall the only time Liga faced a club that was accustomed to playing in the altitude. They got slammed. U de chile and a ridiculous Bolivar in the Copa Sudamericana. Liga had a great team no doubt and they did what they were supposed to. Kill opposing clubs at home but to totally ignore the altitude effect is ludicrous. If Emelec played in quito yesterday, the score line would have been Emelec 4 Flu 1.

I am saying that for you to take out the altitude card as the explanation for LDUs success in 2008 against FLU is exceptionally weak. Two games, two halves, played valiantly by world class athletes fighting for their lives (and national pride) ... and you pull out your memory of how you feel in Ibarra to make sense of it all? I don't know where to begin. So if I start to sweat a lot in Houston's heat and feel light headed, that explains why FLU has an advantage over teams from colder weather when they go to Rio. That's weak. Of course conditions have a role ... altitude, heat, high grass, shitty grass, crappy hotel food, it all has to do. To simplify as you do --that it all boils down to altitude based on how YOU breathe in Ibarra is laughable.

First of all, don't compare Heat, Cold. field conditions, shitty hotels, which every country in the world has to ALTITUDE. Obviously you don't have a clue on how, what or why I was taken an extra breathe in Ibarra. If you are born or from the altitude than you don't have a clue on the effects on your body. You are just used to it. I find it funny that people try to throw in Altitude with heat and all the other climates. How many countries out of 200+ play in the Altitude? Ecuador. Colombia. Mexico. Chile. Bolivia? That's five? did I miss one? Yeah, and Bolivia is really that great of a football nation to trash Argentina 6-1 in La Paz. Yep! Altitude has nothing to do with that! I absolutely hated going to Quito. First 3 days were MISERABLE! Nausea, headaches, always out of breathe. YUCK!

I have lived in Houston and I have lived in Quito. I am a runner and have run and trained in both places. Each is OPPRESSIVE. Today I live in outside of Denver (the mile high city .. ja ..I always tell people that real altitude is closer to 2 miles high).

We can agree to disagree on which one is more oppressive. And we can count how many Quito's or Houston's there are in the world. But from that to say that world class competitions played at the very highest levels are dictated by whether altitude trumps heat or heat trumps cold as opposed to looking, first and foremost, at the quality of the players and teams, is a mistake. LDU, as you say, had a great team. FLU also was great. Whether it was your intention or not -- or me reading more into it --- I think trying to make sense of the result on the basis of altitude is a mistake. Cheers.

There are alot more Houston's than Quito's in the World. Not even close! And I'll take heat over altitude since heat affects both clubs unlike Altitude. I've lived in Colorado Springs and hot ass El Paso. If altitude doesn't matter than tell Chiriboga to play the qualifiers in Guayaquil like Ecuador did pre-1994. Even if you gave Barcelona 500K to rent the stadium. The FEF will still make twice as much as playing in the AtaHualpa.

When these weakass footballers talk about the "heat" or "altitude" i just sit here laughing. I just ran yesterday like 3.5-4 miles straight NON STOP at a fast pace ( i don't believe in jogging) and i'm not complaining about sh*t. And let me add that I haven't ran in like 2 months, just leg lifted. I bet I'd wreck in Quito and run over these weakass complainers who cry about the altitude. Maybe I naturally have good stamina, maybe it's my genes, maybe it's because I eat, train, rest correctly, who knows. Maybe these footballers that come to Quito just don't know how to treat their bodies or train properly to play wherever no matter what the conditions are.

I wasn't born in Ecuador and haven't lived there, but next time I go (i haven't gone in more than 5 yrs), I'm going to go out for a run in the altitude that some of you people find so intimidating and let you know what's up. Doubt it does sh*t to me as long as I drink a lot of water before I go running, rest properly, eat right, and pay the altitude no mind.

Don't futbolistas run about 5 miles per game on average?? And to think I wasn't even tired after my run. Maybe some of these footballers need to knock the p*ssy out of themselves, they're not built for Quito, that's a man job.
