I am already predicting Becky Edwards will be on Portland's team.
Call it crazy, but it just seems she wants to go to the #1 team, and they do need midfielders too.

On behalf of Sky Blue FC of National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), we are seeking host families for a core of our players during the 2013 season, which will run from the beginning of March until the end of August. This is a terrific opportunity for you to share in the NWSL experience, as well as to provide great hospitality for our team. We have had great success with this arrangement in past seasons, and we would be happy to speak with you about the details if you are interested.

Ultimately, we are looking for host families to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the players. Respecting the privacy of both parties, we require the player to have her own private bedroom and private bathroom. The player is responsible for her own food and transportation. In return for your generosity, Sky Blue FC would like to provide you with four season tickets to our 2013 home games at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ.

Please email us at contact@skybluesoccer.com at your earliest convenience if you feel that you may be a good candidate to host a player during the upcoming season. If you know someone else who may be interested in hosting a player, please extend to them this invitation as well. Thank you for your consideration, and Go Sky Blue FC!

In addition to the regular season schedule, SkyBlue will be scrimmaging at University of Maryland in March, per the Terps website.

Tough news for Sky Blue, and hopefully Loyden is back by around June 1st.
In the mean time, Sky Blue should consider going with a 3-4-3-1 formation, with no goalkeeper.

How much actual playing time did Cameron get in the old league?

Luckenbill is or at least recently was working for a nearby firm in NJ.

Cameron played a little bit in the old league.
    Adequate goalkeeper, but not spectacular.
She's your ideal 2nd string keeper, and solid enough to be in this league still as a backup.
She just needs to make the little plays, the must saves, not make mistakes, and to take command.
If so, then Sky Blue can still win or draw most of their matches, because of their defense.

Sky Blue is gonna be in a lot of 1-0, 1-1, and 0-0 matches this year.
They will be one of the easiest teams to draw, but one of the toughest teams to "beat" in the league.

Spectacular game in Maryland over the weekend. Sky Blue just took it to Washington for 90 minutes (minus one giveaway), dominating every phase of the game De Vanna is a star, Schmidt is a star, Adams will be a star in short order. Don't know enough about the teams yet to know whether SBFC is that good, or Washington is that bad, but on the day, Jersey looked really, really good.

I am so scared of NJ's offense. I know we thought their defense would be their strong point, but with the starting trio of De Vanna-O'Hara-Adams and the very experienced reinforcement of Ocampo, I think they've got one of the best attacks in the league as well. They ran ramshod over DC's defense (and midfield) for most of the game, until Miller came on for DC to energize the entire team and even the playing field, as it were. Not enough at that point, of course.

I've always liked Devanna and of course O'Hara and Adams were such promising forwards in college (though not consistently effective in WPS). But right now, coupled with good teamwork with the rest of the team, those three just look like they work well together. One gets free entering the attacking third and then it gets hard for the defense to keep track of all of them. And if it's not them, you have an intelligent player like Sophie Schmidt who knows how to play the game and knows when to get forward, which is how they scored their 2nd goal.

Good players to start with but a case of the sum being greater than the parts so far.

That was a very enjoyable game to watch.

Ran roughshod? I thought position was pretty even, no worse than 45% Spirit / 55% SBFC. The game was very back and forth. The biggest key to me was that the SBFC attack made something of their chances. De Vanna ran down every ball and harrassed the back line when they possessed the ball. The Spirit were able to get forward and had nearly as many dangerous situations but McCarty did nothing with them. Of course the De Vanna play to Schmidt for the 2nd goal was a very nice class play. However Toulouse had a very good game and mostly prevented O'Hara from being a true threat. O'Hara was not getting to the line and turning or crossing. She did better turning to the middle when she got to the Spirit back line.

This is really good news. Thanks for the post.

I'm thinking this suggests Sky Blue is going to be around for a while, if the NWSL cost containment system stays in place. Do others agree it suggests this?

I am in a skeptical mood. Let’s remember that Tom can say or claim anything he wants, as he does not have to worry about say the SEC coming after him, and we would not know better.

I was told that Tom had an interview with a local paper (not Star Ledger which is the paper most people in central NJ would read) that focused more on the business side than team side, that did not even promoting upcoming games such as Boston this Saturday with O’Reilly coming back for the first time. Better after the eighth home game than never, I guess . I was also told that the print version had a wrong game schedule.

The linked article starts with a Wed night game which had to be vs. KC, so it begins with a statement implying that he is glad to see 1,126 in the stands, the second lowest crowd of the year.
“The overall business model is completely different (from the WPS),” Hofstetter said. “It might not be visible to the fans, but the cost structure overall is completely different. I would also say there are better ownership structures across the league..”
He does not explain that to the readers but we know: the absorption of salaries for 7 national players by the Federations and the cutting of costs, no advertising spending, the 60% reduced game day fee to Rutgers due to a smaller staff as a result of the lower attendance, etc. I even believe that some of the game day Sky Blue people are employees of his main business, so there may be a shifting of costs there.

..“Attendance-wise, we are doing fine,” Hofstetter said. “We could always do better, but we’re still meeting our goals.”
That had to be a low goal. NJ may have eliminated many low price group sales but avg. game attendance is half of what it was in the WPS. It does no advertising. Just “word of mouth”, as by the players. I am told that earlier this week, it was calling season ticket holders basically begging them to buy additional tickets or at least spread the word of this Sat.’s game.

“This year is also the first season in six seasons where we’re coming within our expected budget.”..
What does that mean? Within expected losses or earnings? From memory, I believe that in past years, Tom also would have claimed things were going close to plans.

As I wrote at the top, I am in a skeptical mood.

Well, I am a VIP season ticket holder and I did not receive any phone calls or emails about buying more tickets or spreading the word.

There is an update on original Equalizer story about SB and Red Bull
    http://equalizersoccer.com/2013/08/04/sky-blue-fc-new-york-red-bulls-could-partner-nwsl-mls/

“I have enjoyed a long standing relationship with the owners of Sky Blue FC and can confirm that conversations, not negotiations, are on-going over the future of the franchise and the potential for the team to play at Red Bull Arena in the future. If those conversations are fruitful, we could potentially share the plans with the public after the completion of the present season.”
