In light of Bruce Arena's comments regarding the possible announcement of a 3rd DP in May, I was curious as to which player you all would prefer to have as the 3rd DP. I've been following the roster moves and rumors thread, but I just wanted to see the numbers in order to find out who the most popular choice in this forum currently is.

I came up with the list of names off the top of my head - feel free to mention your favorite if he's not on the list.

Omar shouldn't be included in this list. He's not competing with any incoming players this year for a DP slot. It's either him or Donovan for 2014, if either of them would even re-sign with us.

You're right, that totally slipped my mind. Players aren't allowed to simply "upgrade" to DP status in the middle of the season. Thanks for the correction

I voted for Lampard because I don't think Kaka is coming. And I'd like a creative midfielder to serve Robbie and LD upfront.

Kaka because the Galaxy is sorely missing that creative attacking mid.

I'd take Kaka, Ronaldinho and Drogba before Lampard, but it will probably be Lampard.

    1 Kaka  optimal
2 Andrei Arshavin  probably better than 3 and 4 in the long run

3 Lampart :cautious: maybe good in the short run
4 Ronaldinho :cautious: maybe good in the short run
Drogba (strikers we have enough, we need a creative midfielder unless is CR7  )

Count me among those who have no interest in Arshavin. Pouter, whiner, and hasn't looked good in some time.

There's only 1 DP (other than LD and keano) that I want here in LA and that's CR7! I can wait 2 years (only for CR7).

I say Lampard for 2 years is fine. CM is becoming a problem. Juni and Sarvas are similar players, so I think we're going to struggle against teams looking to pick up a point. And we saw against Monterrey what happens when one of them get hurt. Mikey's ceiling is "steady sub" and coincidence or not, we seem to cough up a goal every time Garcia comes in. So Lampard fixes that, and also set piece delivery, which I think has been terrible this year.

I'm not a Kaka expert but he always seemed more straight CAM/2nd forward to me, which doesn't fit what Bruce likes to do. Although I suppose he could do what he did for a while last year where he put Sarvas out wide, but he was really pinching in to help Juni while Beckham did what he wanted. Kind of a lopsided 4-2-2-2.

Whoever our next DP is I believe is just a stopgap for CR7 (if the DP lasts 3-4 years)

Kaka is my ideal on that list, Ronaldinho would be a lot of fun and I would love to have too. Lampard could be great for us but he is not a very sexy option.

We should be looking at signing some fringe players for nonDP as well, if Montreal can get a Nesta why can't we?

We need to ditch the 4-4-2 and run a 4-3-3 with a diamond in the middle. Lampard would help that ...

    Donovan - Keane - Magee
    Lampard - Sarvas
    Juninho
    Todd - AJ - Gonzo - Franklin

Donovan and Magee come back to support on D. Todd and Franklin push when we attack. Juni is used as a holding CM. He does the dirty work to allow Lampard and Sarvas to knock the ball around. Lampard and Sarvas work box to box while Juni presses to about 35 yards away from the opponents goal.

In our current 4-4-2 ... when we attack we are essentially playing a 2-4-4 as the outside backs push into the mid to help the attack. We possess the ball well but having that diamond in the middle creates so many options. It gives us triangles all over the field.

Also ... Im sorry but Stephens is horrible ... he steps on and the quality of the play drops. He is a 75 min plus sub IMHO.

yes, that's exactly what I was posting in the other threads and we've been debating for a while now...

Also Magee does not play as a wing, the whole point of a 4-3-3 is to have speedy wingers. Also Sarvas does not play attacking mid, you have your midfield triangle upside down...

I can never tell how serious some people are with these sort of thoughts -- but Cristiano Ronaldo even entertaining a thought of one day possibly moving to the US to play is a very, very long way off. Quite possibly in the Like Never range.

And, were that delusional parallel universe reality ever to come to pass -- I would honestly have to consider taking a few years off, because I'm not sure I could ever support that wildly talented preening sack of ego.

Kovalenko wearing the shirt was bad enough.

We will end up signing lampard but I dont think he will have much motivation to play for us. I really want Kaka because we already have 2 Brazilians so he would have a great connection in the midfield.

YES. He's the kinda player who will be able to play forever, his passing is crazy-good, and there'll be a point where he's one everything with Spain and Barcelona and he might be interested in a new challenge before he needs a wheelchair to go around.

Why do you think Kaka would be any more motivated than Lampard? Just because we have two Brazilians on the roster? Or, looked at the other way, what suggests Lampard would not be equally motivated? I would think that following in Beckham's footsteps he would be driven to show that he is just as good as Becks was here.
