Word. I'm hoping AEG figures this out quick and signs the kid up for a big money deal before BigEuro FC gets their slimy hands on him.

OK, this isn't actually "media," but it's still pretty awesome. A video of every touch Omar had during the Mexico game.

Look upon this, oh ye forwards of MLS. Look upon this and weep.

    EDIT: Now with link!

Watching this video reinforces my impression that this was the most complete game I've seen Omar play. Oh sure he's had awesome games displaying his aerial dominance in the past (ahh the memories of a befuddled curly headed muppet crying still bring me joy) but even in those awesome games he tended to default to booting the ball long too often and created unnecessary turnovers by too frequently misplaying even simple, relatively short passes.

He did neither of these things against Mexico. His default play Tuesday night were one- and two-touch possession oriented ground passes, delivered accurately to teammates, sometimes over considerable distances. In the 2nd half he did boot the ball long slightly more often but most of those over the top passes were still fairly accurate. I only remember one long high ball that I would classify as a complete mishit.

Equally important were his leadership and calm but concentrated demeanor exhibited throughout the full 95 minutes he was on the field. During the game he was constantly scanning the field and keeping himself aware of the positions of the ball, his teammates and his opponents whether they were in front or behind him. As a result when called upon to act he was able to do so quickly and decisively.

Truly a great game from our Gonzilla.

This. Completely agree. Nice job skydog. I had the thought as I was watching it if he (like Geoff Cameron before him) gets kinda bored back there sometimes in LA's line and resorts to trying to create something/anything to contribute.

This isn't to be selfish or anything, just that he wants to contribute.

The best thing he did were those simple on the ground passes - a game that he should absolutely continue to play in LA with Juninho, Sarvas and usually whoever is on his right (AJ/Sean).

It's funny too, I was comparing Belser's play and Cameron's play to AJ's, and I realized that Cameron tended to sit back more in Honduras, and Besler was the one to cut plays out in Mexico - exactly as AJ and Gonzo play in LA. So in hindsight, doesn't surprise me that Omar was more comfortable with Besler because he more resembles the guy that Gonzo has lined up with time and again. It's also a watch out for Leonardo's brainfarts since he tends to go on walkabout more than AJ and can't get back.

It's a fascinating time for us. We are legitimately going to have two US superstars on our team. It's awesome.

And Gonzo's stories in the media have skyrocketed, hence the reason I decided to create the thread.

You can easily argue that the current best USA centerback is Omar Gonzalez and he plays for us ;)

Sadly (and happily for him), it won't be for long. Part of this thread will soon be dedicated to where he's going next. I'm sure the rumors will start right before the summer transfer window.

Didn't Omar say he was gonna stay in Los Angeles till his contract ends? And that he would also be open tostaying if the right contract was offered?

I think that will change once he gets his first offer from Europe. And it'll come.

I doubt he hasn't at least been contacted. I am sure they are already sniffing around. He maybe just happy here. It has not affected his form since in my opinion he is the best US defender at this point.

He might be wanting to take time and make the right decision so he ends up in the right situation. I think he still has bad taste after his experience with Nuremberg. He's said in interviews that he didn't like the way he was treated by them once he stepped into the building and was pressured to practice with the first team hours after being on 18 hour fight. I think he likes the way the Galaxy treats and respects him and other players on the roster.

Maybe its a German way of doing things. From what I recall Even his third stint in Germany Landon didn't particularly like the environment at Munchen. From what I remember Donovan said he felt like they were more competitors than teamates. BTW where did you read those quotes from Omar?

I don't recall the news source. However I think it was in an August article about his return, rehabilitation, and injury.

I remember he was talking about that in the end he leaned he must listen to his body above everything and everyone else, and not cave into pressure when you know it's not the healthy thing to do.

Looks like someone is on the cusp of becoming a national star. He's gotta retain his focus.

The guy is young, talented, good looking, and plays for a well known successful team. Seems to have all the ingredients to peddle stuff he wants me to buy =)

Omar also has now made Adidas digital advertising as the lead player in their "All in for MLS" campaign. Front and center.

You can see the ads on espn...
