I like to think the above photo was actually taken in black and white and that Magee simply came out in colour.
Do we rest our first team for Monterrey game and use something like this? ---------Rugg-----Hoffman--------- Clark------------------------Jimenez ----------Stephens-----Garcia--------- Cochrane----Meyers-----AJ----Opare -----------------Cudicini---------------
Saturday morning to Wednesday night is not too soon to play again. I fact I would still argue that we need the fitness and timing before the Monterrey games. Basically, same line-up as Saturday's against Colorado. Rest Omar and Keane.
No wonder Magee is leading the league with 4 goals so far this year! He's combined the "Fist Of Doom" with shooting!
No Keane for this one in the hopes of fixing his calf injury. And yes, I'd be inclined to rest Omar as well. The only two I'm concerned about really are Sarvas and Juninho. I'd be interested in subbing them out early (in particular Sarvas) should we get a lead. More important game is Wednesday.
Yeah, I think we rest the guys who were gone on Nat duty and then sub out the older players like Sarvas...
I come in peace. So this game, not that important due to CCL? I expect a typical draw as all LA games in Toronto tend to be...
Yeah, honestly, while we'd like to get points from it, I think everyone is a lot more focused on Monterey. If we walk away 1-1 I think we'd be pretty happy.
Well, Keane and Gonzalez won't play due to having played (or gotten injured ) on international duty. Donovan is just back with the team and won't be playing, and our top rookie is out injured. Beyond that, I think the regulars who are healthy will play and then some of the older players will be subbed out to save their legs a bit for the big game on Wednesday... but that's all conjecture right now...
You know, there's definitely enough time for him to recover and play....but he did just play two REALLY hard 90's. I guess it'll depend on how he feels. If he feels great and is ready to go 90, I'd play him to keep him sharp for Monterey, and if possible and the game is going well, sub in Leonardo for him somewhere in the 2nd half. Getting a good result at home v. Monterey is both hard and completely necessary, so I suspect that Bruce will be looking both at sharpness and fitness and thinking more about Monterey than this game. I think you set your lineup for next week, then work backwards from that depending on fitness levels. Do have to say one thing though--man am I glad Toronto actually plays on grass. Puts other northern clubs to shame. Good for TFC. I am hoping the Ryan Nelson turns out well in the long run, those fans deserve better than what they've gotten so far.
for the record, Montreal also plays on grass at Stade Saputo where they play most of their home games. but thanks for the thought
I was thinking about Seattle, Vancouver, and New England, actually. I know they have other issues (stadiums with other sports going on that want the turf, in the case of Seattle and New England, and I think that might apply to Vancouver as well, with their new lease at BC Place) but I appreciate teams that commit to playing the game as God intended---on grass, not fieldturf.
I said commit. Not succeed. =) Ooh semantics, the little bastards! And actually, you ever hear of humility squares? They are one deliberately flawed square in an Amish quilt to remind the maker of the quilt that only God is perfect. I hear that Magee deliberately misplaces one pass per game for the same reason.
OK folks back to the trek. I think with what we have go to Canuck country and get a point. 3 is a bonus, but not loosing. On a plus side. Our kids up top give us cover. The mid is ok and our d has a bit of cover. think we go with our 1st squad. I believe we play Monterey on Thursday so that should be enough time, I hope.. If not f'it lets give the reserves a run and keep our team ready for Monterey. MLS just started CCL is in the critical stage. So I am firmly on the side of who knows how to deal with this but I am glad I can go back and depending on the score either say I agreed with bruce which makes me a genius or that I can coach better than bruce because I would have done the opposite. bigsoccer powers activate
yea sadly mls regular season is somewhat pointless given how many playoff positions open. so this game is nothing compared to Monterrey. most important thing is to give our guys minutes to keep em fresh but not too many either. Same starting lineup as last game. Sub off Juninho, Sarvas and Magee for Stephens, Landon (last 10) and Keane (if he can play at all)
