VS. Venue, time and referee: All officials: Head to head results between the country's (Netherlands= red): Fifa ranking details of both country's since it's creation: Possible talking points: Who should be the keeper for the Netherlands in this match? Vorm or Stekelenburg? Who should be the right back for Dutch NT? Janmaat or van Rhijn? Who should be the left center back? Vlaar or BMI? Who should be left back for the Dutch NT? Blind or BMI? Who should be DM in this match? Clasie or JdG? Who should be the right winger for Dutch NT? Kuyt/Schaken or Lens who was selected later by van Gaal for the injured striker Huntelaar? What scoreline would only be satisfactory?
If Kuyt or Shacken start over just about anybody, i'll be upset.... As much as i love Kuyt as a player, he should really move on from the NT. And Shacken, no. I think regardless if BMI starts at LCB, Blind should be playing at LB seeing his form recently. Vlaar just got back from injury recently though? JDG is a DM? I don't watch many Swansea games so i wouldn't really know? Nor have i really watched much of Feyenoord so therefore i can't really speak on Clasie's form. I personally think Van Rhijn over Janmaat everyday. I don't technically rate Janmaat. Stekelenburg has been doing pretty well recently and Vorm just recently got back from injury. I don't think this is much of a question. And, a little off topic but it just popped in my head, is anyone else really excited for Robben to be playing under Pep next season? see what he is capable of and more practice in the formation that LVG will be using?
A year ago I would have the same preference for Van rhijn over Janmaat. But to continue that with the decline in performance/quality by vR versus the steady improvement and better performance of Janmaat is plain silly. Ricardo is becoming a hazard in the Ajax defense while Janmaat is showing he isnot at the end of his capabilities yet. You yourself state that you donot watch Feyenoord, so the comment about Janmaat vs. van Rhijn is just an Ajax biased comment, not supported by facts.
Yes, i agree with you but the few times he played for the NT made me lean that way.. Also with vR captaining youth teams he has more exp. i think?
Ons Oranje is predicting the following XI: VermeerJanmaat - de Vrij - Martins-Indi - BlindDe Guzman - StrootmanSneijderLens - van Persie - RobbenPersonally, my only change would be Clasie in, but lets see how Jono does. I'd rather van Rhijn, John, and Steke, but I can fully understand picking Janmaat, Lens, and Vermeer. Lens has been great for Oranje and can score goals, and we need players who can do that against these smaller teams who will likely bunker. Van Rhijn has been at fault for quite a number of goals against for Ajax this year, and Janmaat is a bit better going forward. Vermeer has amazing reflexes and he's been doing well apart from his kicking.
Well, the main importance of the youth teams (in my opinion) is practicing on a higher level, with substantially harder opposition from players from other leagues, than normally possible in the eredivisie. So he scores points on that, but that erodes fast with real experience in the big team.
Lens has been pretty good for Oranje lately, so his inclusion makes sense. Not so sure about Robben... with the likes of Wes and Robin, the team has enough ammunition to get three points. I would have liked to see Ola John getting playing time to prove himself. Back four is arguably the best selection based on form. De Vrij and BMI are the future, glad they are partnered up.
Who should be the keeper for the Netherlands in this match? Vorm or Stekelenburg? The Painter Who should be the right back for Dutch NT? Janmaat or van Rhijn? Van Rhijn Who should be the left center back? Vlaar or BMI? I don't really care Who should be left back for the Dutch NT? Blind or BMI? Blind right now Who should be DM in this match? Clasie or JdG? Clasie Who should be the right winger for Dutch NT? Kuyt/Schaken or Lens who was selected later by van Gaal for the injured striker Huntelaar? Lens What scoreline would only be satisfactory? A billon to nothing
Too bad that Aouate (the Israeli keeper) couldn't come out a little more strong in extra time. It's really devastating to lose a match that way. Had Israel won, Portugal would have been in real trouble in terms of qualifying.
It's just like watching my weekly Ajax match, lots of possession and no good chances created. Nice double save by Vermeer at the end of the half to save Blind's bacon. I'm wondering whether there's a goal in this match.
Hopefully Van Gaal uses this game as a kiss of death for the old guard. Robben, Sneijder, Van der Vaart and Van Persie are all past it.
LOL! Robben was the most dangerous attacking player. Van der Vaart and Van Persie both scored, though Van Persie should have easily scored a second goal. Very average performance overall.
2 negative things which should have been 2 goals against us.. Janmaat broke the offside trap and gave them a golden 1v1 oppertunity. And maybe I have to look it back, but did Vermeer totally miss an easy cross in and was extremely lucky De Vrij could hit it with the back of his head preventing a tap in? That looked very very bad.
You might want to watch the third goal back. High caliber stuff. Maybe your comment was after the first half though.
all in all not a bad performance, but definitely not a top class performance. I think LvG needs to slightly alter his system a bit for better control of the midfield. His point forward 4-3-3 didn't really work because the #10 ended up playing way too close to the striker and the defenders and got completely crowded out. Also the left and right midfielders often needed a central passing outlet but didn't have it because the central midfielder was ahead of them. Change to a point back 4-3-3 please. JDG2's play was probably the most varied of anyone's. He easily created the most danger with his perfectly weighted long balls to the wingers (especially Robben) in space, but his ground passes were consistently intercepted. This problem however may be solved by using a single central DM which reduces the need for lateral passes and passes straight into the middle of the crowded area in front of the box. He also did a good job of winning the ball back. In fact the whole team did a good job of winning possession back instantly, and only fouled three times (all in the second half)
That was the most impressive part of the match for me. If they can keep this approach up it will prevent pressure on the young back four.
Sneijder and Strootman wont work unless Strootman plays as the lone DM. That and playing Sneijder does disturb the balance making the fomation more of a 4-2-3-1 than a 4-3-3. He is too close to the ST, trigger happy and very very inclined towards the left wing. Problem is Strootman as a Central Midfielders enjoys the left side more hence they are both cramping the same space or Strootman is at the right where he is not much effective. Strootman & Sneijder clogging the same space means there are big gaps in the right side of the mid-field and the right flank is a lot dead than it should be. My Favourite Formation will be - Clasie Van Ginkel/Maher/Vilhena Strootman I want to see Clasie playing a higher up role where is vision and high handling speed can split open the mid-field and add to it a Modern #10 like Maher,Vilhena of Van Ginkel who can play a CM as well making a fluid 3 Man Mid-field who can defend and attack.
Drop Sneijder like that...? he is still top quality and only recently started playing for Galatasary. Give him more time to get in form. I agree with the fact that it does turn the formation into more of a 4-2-3-1 but, i think that is more of a tactical thing that LvG will need to fix. As the captain, i doubt he will be dropped....
I just wrote what I felt. I feel more comfortable seeing the mid-field like I think it should be. I dont know if Sneijder is "TOP" quality yet but if used properly he can still be of good use to the team, atleast as a sub. But building the team around him at #10 is disturbing the enter harmony of the team.
Robben is still by far Oranje's Best player and the only World Class Player left maybe along with RVP as well. He's in a different class. Schaken, Kuyt, John, Lens cant be half as good as his toe-nail.
That's ridiculous. Yes, Robben isn't as good as he once was, but why site that as a reason to drop him on a day when he was the single best and most dangerous player on Oranje? Should Barca sell Messi if he slows down and starts scoring just 20 goals a season?
^I think our colleague just wants more Feyenoord players in the starting 11. Sneijder and Robben just don't wear the red and white of Rotterdam. If they did, he would certainly change his tune.
Did you also see how many poor choices Robben made? Including a horrendous joke scene in the first half. Against real opposition he is a liability.
