Who is "they" ? You mean that there are racists everywhere except in Uruguay of course according to Lugano. Chilavert was just a mediocre GK, Starsbourg brought him in to replace their former GK who was doing blunders after blunders to try to remain in L1 but Chilavert wasn't much better. People trying to defend Suarez for this kind of behavior are crazy.

yesterday afternoon i came down with something, a 24 hr bug, a bad cherry at lunch, who knows? feverish, achy, nauseous... home by 4 and straight to bed.

anyway, 9:20pm, i get to the couch with a cup of camomille and a digestive biscuit, not really chipper, but after a few minutes it's clear that it's the cloggies who should have stayed in bed. the vaunted oranje agressivity limited to a few MVB digs and kicks with ball not in play. robben, van persie, sneijder, afellay... then van den vaart, huntelaar, then kuyt... van basten, guullit, kruijf, johnny frigging rep... and nothing to show for it but one shot through mertesacker's legs. like trying to make a hole in stainless steel with a playskool drill. for 5' it looked like they had a hope but it was really down to the faux rhythme the germans had fallen into, not any real revolt from the dutch. i wasn't really well enough to take any more interest in the whole thing they seemed to, but the look on van bommel's face at the end was worth staying up to see.

you know how nights are when you're ill like that, chills and sweats, aches and cramps... around 3am, in a kind of dreamy delirium i feel the fever breaking... 2-0... headache fading... no points from two matches... stomach muscles relaxing... all will be well.

i wake up a bit later than usual but refreshed and looking forward to the day. a great plague has passed, and i'm doing OK too. but the first bites of breakfast won't stay down, i rush to the toilet...

if holland beats portugal they can still go through.

what a nervous nellie i was! portugal didn't look all that great but holland? an overall worst performance by a "favorite" since france in 2002 and last night was perhaps their worst match of all.

what can that marwijk fellow be thinking? he should have at least had his son-in-law try out that line-up on PES before fielding it. and jethro willem? not only does france have 3 LB's better than that, i wouldn't bet against OL having that many too. he reminded me of lamine gassama out there. and yet he started every match.

what to say but good riddance to bad rubbish. if only they could do a belgium and disappear from the international scene altogether.

a last note: is their deal with nike so cheesy that they have to put their numbers on themselves with electrician's tape?

Eden Hazard had an explosive full league debut for Chelsea this weekend providing 2 assists in the first 15 minutes of the game. He's only 21 years old and has been making a transition to the EPL from the "inferior" Ligue 1.

Even if L1 is of course inferior to EPL, it'd be absurd for EPL fans to denigrate it when you see the amount of players coming from France in their league. Anyway, Eden Hazard has been followed by the biggest clubs in Europe with Chelsea being one of them since he's a teen, before he became a star in L1 but he chose to remain at Lille to keep improving before to make the move.

Looks like Henry brought a case of Red Bull and passed them out at half time. Wallcott and Giroud each had 2.

Wenger expecting 'very calm' transfer window

The Arsenal boss believes that the lack of funds available to clubs across Europe could result in the winter window effectively becoming a market between Premier League clubs

Drogba in Turkey. I said that there are Turkish teams that are bigger clubs than L'OM and the fact that one of them can pay him 7m salary pretty much confirms it. They kept wanting to bring him back but they had no chance at that salary.

that was well taken and his work rate and general attitude looked good. the one time he let his temper rise 1) it was perfectly merited and 2) he controlled it quickly. what a difference from the brat i'd seen before. he looks like a great one in the making.
