well i tried digging up the previous one and its buried to the point i couldnt find it, so i figured new season, new thread in the continuing brainstorming adventures to make our squad better. Especially with the sudden injury crisis we have, still very important.

Id love to have some more Honduran overlords recommended from Bernardez and Chavez in the mix, we could stand to bring one or two of them in at critical positions like central midfield and another outside midfielder.

i still keep preaching Sal Zizzo as a nice outside option, especially since the new Portland coach doesnt seem to rate him at all. would be an upgrade over salinas for me.

Corben Bone still languishing and rotting on the Chicago bench, and since we didnt land Bostock could be a nice option to have for the middle of the park.

Finally a new one came to my head the past few days; Andrew Wenger. Montreal just does not seem to need him and it makes me sick to see a talent like him languishing on the bench. We could find a place for him somewhere, anywhere. Hes one of those jack of all trades guys like Zavaleta where you can plug him in at defense, mid, or forward, he just doesnt have a home yet. we could find him one. Id throw 2015 first and second round picks at him, i like him that much.

Finally perhaps most controversial of all, think about dangling Rafael Baca in front of Chivas USA for their 2014 first rounder.......which will probably be the first overall pick in the draft. We could get us a nice pretty toy like Jared Watts with that pick. Only make this move if we bring someone else in for the middle of the park though and/or Bellouchy is healthy because we are scraping to the bone there as is.

Colorado could sure as hell use a goalkeeper.

Did anybody hear on extratime radio when Nelsen the Toronto manager was talking about Bostock and said that the Quakes never made an offer or even talked to Tottenham. I thought that somebody said we wanted him but he was too expensive. Anybody know what is going on here?

We had to be talking to Tottenham or they would have never sent him over for a trial. They own him. He just didn't show up out of the blue. As far as an offer, the Quakes never said they made one, they said he was too expensive and would have ate up most of the remaining cap space.

As I've mentioned before, they probably had an idea of what he'd cost, but bottom line they didn't think he was worth it, so they didn't take it much further (my guess). You don't go public saying that you don't think the guy is worth the money. You just make up an excuse about cost, which is probably at least partially true, and is kind of a polite thing to do so you don't hurt the guy's chances to catch on with another team.

They probably figured that for the cost of a Bostock, they can sign Cato + say a Salvadoran winger who may not be as good as Bostock, but then you've got a two for one deal.

He may have also not really fit in with the Quakes mentality as well. I watched the Toronto match and he did look pretty good, but I also got the impression that he can be temperamental and might prove inconsistent. That's just one game I've seen so that probably isn't worth much, but evaluation of work rate and general attitude may also have come into play. It's been pretty well documented in interviews with Yallop and others that the Quakes prize a particular attitude.

Marco Rojas is a star and would be cheap. Eli Babalj is a tall Striker who could plug into gthis system with ease I reckon.

Btw, my local club Melbourne Heart's Captain is Fred. He played in the MLS. What are your guys perspective on him?

I don't mean to bring him back to the MLS. Just wondering how he went in America, as he is now the Captain of my local club?

I hope we're not going to look for more forwards. We now have 4 target guys in Tracy, Jahn, Lenhart and Gordon. 3 "small forwards" in Wondo, Fucito and Martinez. That's enough people up front. If we were to add anyone else, I would guess it could be Simon Dawkins (if he is out of contract and we can make the numbers work. Maybe Corrales moves to coaching staff?)

Another guy I wouldn't be surprised to see is Goodson. We have his rights if he comes back and he would be fine to replace Jason. I still think Alas wants to come here if we have room, but that would almost certainly mean Corrales is gone.

I wish we had a guy like Sharlie Joesph/Michael Bradley/Rico Clark in the midfield with Cronin. We need a big, box to box mid that will score a goal or two for us. Maybe Tommy can become that guy, but he's pretty raw right now.

Goodson would be a pretty pleasant surprise. he did turn down a move to turkey after all, and only has a few months left on his current contract

He was pretty decent the first time around with DC in 07-09. Not a star, but a solid player for them for a few years.

As much as I'd like to see it, Corrales will be hanging around at least for the rest of the season. I'm also pretty sure he will be playing when the rock pile from the FMC parking lot is cleared....sadly!

I see RBNY went for Akpan, that was a good move for them he was another one i liked.

But still looking at the Colorado bench, i like the idea of bringing Kamani Hill back into the fold with us. id throw a 2015 second rounder at him.

theres one guy thats good enough I watching right now id seriously DP thats playing for Santos Laguna vs Seattle right now; Felipe Baloy. Panamanian central defender. The guy is just a flat out monster, hes built like Oguchi Onyewu. Every time i watch the USMNT play Panama he is always one that sticks out. If we had Bernardez and Baloy running our defense, people would tremble. And yes, hes the sort of in his prime not overage player that we are looking for. Take a looksee at this match youll see. Hes just crushing Eddie Johnson right now.

i grow more and more livid watching Andrew Wenger languish away at Montreal, i would send our first to Montreal for him straight up no questions asked. We could find somewhere on the field for him.

A Bernardez/Baloy backline would be tough but I don't think Santos Laguna will let him go.
