Didn't know this. great incentive: There is also a financial carrot dangling before all who step on the field. The winner will walk away with a quarter of a million dollars, and for the top-finishing NASL team, there is a $15,000 prize on offer. http://www.nasl.com/index.php?id=3&newsid=4156

So since VSI enters in the 1st round, should they advance they will be in the pool of teams drawn against the Rowdies in round 2? ffs
Please tell me you guys didn't steal the "PT..FC" chant from Portland, too? Gonna start doing Seattle's call and response chant next? Orlando City fans have it down pat.
I don't recall why we started doing it. I'd assume because some other team already was? I thought I heard an NFL team's fans doing a similar call and response like it recently, a team that's been around a while but I don't recall now and I may be mistaken.
I don't know if we ripped it off from any other city or not (pre-internet, we might not have been able to see many chants from elsewhere). Hell, nobody can even agree on when The Wave started. It just seems to me that we started doing "TAMPA.....BAY....TAMPA.....BAY" around the time the Bucs got good in 1979. I don't recall it before then. It may have been derivative of "ORANGE....BLUE....ORANGE....BLUE" at UF, but I never was there before 1983, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.
Hey @atlanticTFCfan or @SoccerPrime could we rename the thread to something like National Cups, or USA/Canada Cups or something like that to include Edmonton in the Amway Canadian Championships? 2013 AMWAY CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL SERIES: 1st Leg on 24 April 2012 – #4 vs. #1 1st Leg on 24 April 2012 – #3 vs. #2 2nd Leg on 1 May 2012 – #2 vs. #3 2nd Leg on 1 May 2012 – #1 vs. #4 FINAL SERIES: 1st Leg on 15 May 2012 2nd Leg on 29 May 2012 http://www.canadasoccer.com/associa...n-championship-p152085&t=championship_article http://www.canadasoccer.com/amway-canadian-championship-s15045 #4 is Edmonton and #1 is Vancouver http://www.canadasoccer.com/whiteca...3-championship-p152481&t=championship_article
FC Edmonton's home game is on April 24 at Commonwealth Stadium(60K Capacity). The team is partnering with the United Way in a promotion for kids, so they will probably have a better turnout this year although the stadium is so big that it will look empty no matter what they pull in. Hope the Eddies can get a win against the Whitecaps!
YOU UTTERED THE NAME! SURELY, YOU HAVE DOOMED US ALL! Seriously though, I've never heard an actual person (i.e. not a pundit) use the sponsor's name to refer to the tournament, and I hope it stays that way. I'm grateful for their monetary contribution, but that's as far as my loyalty goes. But more to topic, are we counting rivalry cups on this thread? If so, then we already know that Orlando took the initial I-4 Derby against the Rowdies 5-2 on aggregate. The other rivalry cup I'm actually quite excited for is the Flyover Cup, which the supporters of FC Edmonton and MN United use to raise funds for local charities. Right now Minnesota have the cup, and the all-time record stands at 1-1. Here are the dates for this season. 4/20/2013 - 4:20pm EDT - MN United FC vs. FC Edmonton - H.H.H. Metrodome 6/30/2013 - 4:00pm EDT - FC Edmonton vs. MN United FC - Clarke Stadium 9/7/2013 - 7:00pm EDT - MN United vs. FC Edmonton - NSC Stadium 9/22/2013 - 4:00pm EDT - FC Edmonton vs. MN United - Clarke Stadium Right now my money is on MN United, despite the fact that their home field will change (and that the Dome hasn't proven to be any sort of advantage). That's mainly because it's also unclear as to whether Clarke Stadium will provide much of a home field advantage.
I would call it the “Go Daddy.com US Open Cup” all day if that funded a better cup with more prize money or more traveling funds for the lower Division teams.
